This process is very taxing. I know a lot of you are discouraged with it all, but keep your head up, there's still a lot of life left in the process.

I hear you. I know someone earlier stated it’s not over till the fat lady sings, but it sure sounds like she’s clearing her throat right now. Based on years past, when does this process wrap up? Do all the programs email you when slots are filled? When is it reasonable to say we’re done? First timer so just not sure how this plays out time wise. Thanks.

By the end of July most programs are done with few exceptions that go later such as Columbia, Case Western etc. People will start posting that spots are filled which will tell which programs are done, not always 100% accurate because not everyone posts.

Not all programs will email you. About half of them email you by sometime in August, others ghost, and others will send a random rejection early next year (I got a couple in January).

I wouldn’t say it’s over right now. There still some programs that haven’t sent anything and I would also think that some more interviews will open up by the end of next week when people that interview next week get some offers

I am kind of at a loss right now. I had a 3.75 gpa, top 20%, non-dental related publications, volunteering, and 1 year of experience and I received zero interviews and I applied to a looooot of schools. I have got zero interviews which is shocking to me. I didn't necessarily expect to get in but I thought I would get at least a couple interviews. Do you all think this is just an experience issue or something more.... Just kinda coping right now lol..

Im on the same boat... few years of experience, high gpa, publications, zero interviews.

I am in the same boat, I graduated in 2012, top 15%, 90+ board scores, went to AAE this year, applied to 20 schools (apparently I should apply more). The only endodontists I have connection with are they all in PRIVATE practices for so many years. We should keep our heads up. I believe that if we GENUINELY have a passion for endodontics, we will get in no matter what.

Not sure. This is my second cycle. No interviews yet. Prior military. Have an Masters in Public Health, Masters in Biomedical Science. NHSC Scholar. Did an AEGD. Research and publications during dental school. Been at Community Clinic 3 years with lots of volunteering. Went to AAE and am an active AAE member. Took Endondontic continuum course and roughly 40 hours of Endo CE this year. Applied to 20 schools. What I have been told is unfortunately my undergrad wasn't stellar and I went to a P/NP - non-rank dental school. Guess I need to ace the ADAT and save a small village from terrorist attack- then they might think about giving an interview. But just got to stay positive

That made me chuckle out loud, thanks for that haha

But on a real note, you guys think the next step to improve our chances would be to take the ADAT?

Took it this year- gonna retake if it all doesn’t work out

Thats crazy man, I really don't know what else they could be looking for if given that everything else in your app is on par....

I don't have to take the ADAT as I have my board score (90+). But from looking at the practice test, it is the most useless test. It does not measure your intelligence or knowledge in relevant career. It is like all other tests that we have to take (DAT, Boards part 1 and 2) pure memorization and no critical thinking impart. I would say commit to Endodontic education (AAE, seminars and lecture) has more value to your endo learning.
I would not go to the program that use the ADAT score to differentiate their applicants. If I have to apply all over again, I would just do that.

This thread can be very frustrating and exciting depending on your situation. It seems like you are doing a lot of good things. Have you visited any programs to shadow? Why not take the ADAT, I mean if it meant getting in would you take it? It is a stupid test. Some programs require them and there are significantly fewer applicants for them. Do you want a better chance to get into endo? Is Endo life like your name says? How will your application differ from this year to next (if you don't get selected)? I mentioned my two cents in an earlier post. In my first year of applying, I had 5 interviews and applied to 8 programs. I didn't get in. Thought never entered my mind. I ended up applying smarter and visiting programs. I ended received interviews with all the programs that I visited. It does make a difference.

Oh man, just wanted to add my encouragement to everyone, I definitely remember how stressful this whole process was.

Also keep in mind that the playing field has gotten a lot more competitive. My PD told me he's gotten increasingly more and more applications (with a sharp increase in 2020-2021 because interviews went virtual and ADAT was waived). So it isn't that you aren't a great candidate, there are just more applicants and some amazing people will unfortunately be rejected.

This is just an estimate based off what I’ve heard and seen, but most programs in the northeast are getting ~250 applications and on average have 5 spots. That means you must be the top 2% to land

This is more or less consistent with the numbers that my PD has shared with us

But I'll say it's more about standing out in a stack of ~250 papers. If you have top 2% stats then you'll obviously stand out. But at the end of the day, most applicant profiles look very similar: high grades and scores, a lot of extracurricular activities, AAE conference and membership. I had lower stats than a lot of the posters here (so I couldn't rely on just numbers), so I took the advice of a mentor endodontist who used to teach, he said "show them you're a fun person to be around because they're looking for someone to work in close quarters with for 2 years."

Someone here said it was like dating and that's basically it.

What you say is very true. I used to think they were crazy and would go wherever I got in, but it really comes down to the program choosing you and you choosing the program.

does anyone know anything about other programs? Its kinda getting late for many which have not sent out interviews yet!

Is it too late to add more schools for this application cycle?
No, there are some programs that still review new applications. I would add a few more. But when it gets to July, it may be kind of too late.

So how did you "show them you're a fun person to be around"? Through your personal statement? Cos I agree, that is extremely important!

Im not too sure to be honest. I’m 6 years out and this is my 2nd time applying. I got 3 interviews last year without taking the ADAT. I took more CEs, went to AAE, took the ADAT and scored a 600 so I could apply to more schools, but so far haven’t gotten 1 interview.

University of Florida interviews sent out for July 13th and 14th.
Hey Endo_11, did you hear that invitations from UFCD went out or did you receive an invitation personally? I basically just wanted to confirm that invitations actually went out. This will help me with closure as the school was my first choice and I think it will help me move on. I also know 4 others who applied there who have not received an invitation and I'm wondering if there was a mistake.

Did anyone else get an invitation from UF?

Minnesota has a meet and greet July 13th at 1:30pm so you could be safe to fly in that morning according to the program director. The actual interview is the 14th and should last about an hour. It is expected that you'll be at both days.

Can you please share a little about your profile? Thanks
Copied from earlier post:

600+ adat, p/np grades, gpr, tons of extracurricular stuff(lots of teaching activities) in dental school. Did no research in dental school but got a publication in a prestigious scientific journal before starting dental school

I received a phone call from the PD for the interview invite. Hope this helps.

No invites from the schools you interviewed at last year? Great stats and an improved application. Hopefully some good news soon for us.

Does UNC send a confirmation email?
Has anyone heard anything from UNC?

I called multiple schools and they all told me there’s still applications being reviewed. Some said until august. We are good
