Philadelphia COM - Philadelphia (PCOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
After you guys submitted your secondary did you get a confirmation email. How do we know if PCOM got our letters, fees, and secondary?????

Can someone who interviewed here already please share their experiences? Obviously don't say too much if you signed some sort of NDA, but just a general itinerary would be helpful

Pretty standard interview day. I think it started at noon. They had us wait in the lobby with until all of the applicants arrived (I think there were 10 of us). They gave us a folder with some information. Then we went on a tour with 2 current students which was pretty in depth (the students who we toured with were extraordinarily kind and helpful). Then we had lunch with another student and one admissions faculty member. We went back to the admissions office where we had a very brief financial aid presentation and then had our individual interviews. There were two panels of interviewers, both faculty or members of admissions staff (I think).

So just conversational interview? No MMI/group activities/role playing etc?

My interview was very similar to mk2015's except that I had 4 interviewers instead of 2. It was a little more work to try and manage a conversation with 4 people asking me questions, but it wasn't stressful at all.

I received an email letting me know that I had to retake my Pcat but I also was told that my application would now be reviewed again since I am no longer an early admission applicant. I wanted to hold off before reapplying for Pcat to see if I get an interview first.

that awkward moment when your brain first assumes that the "PCAT" is some sort compound word of PCOM+MCAT and it is a school specific test for DO admissions at PCOM that you somehow managed to overlook as a requirement, thus explaining the months of silence...

naptime.

My app has also been complete since 8/21 and NJ applicant...

3.48 cGPA and 26 mcat, EC's include shadowing a DO alum, Service, sports, EMS

I feel as though this school is taking their sweet time in getting back to people haha. There hasn't been movement on interviews in a while here

Lol I've been complete since late July my parent went there have 3 MD IIs and haven't heard anything so sit back and enjoy the ride.

I have no expectations for PCOM reaching out to me until April-ish. #crapshoot

PCOM widely considered best DO school in nation, one of the top medical schools period. When your that baller you can afford to make people wait

Has anyone who interviews 10/14 received a letter yet??

Really? I heard MSUCOM and NYCOM were the top ones in term of stats. They have been really good with getting back to applicants in terms of interviews.

Stats don't indicate how good a school is necessarily. There is some degree of correlation, yes, but if that were the case, then Touro would be the "best" DO school since they have the highest MCAT spread.

I think state schools are considered the best then schools with a long history.

Lol...CCOM is the one that has the best stats, with LizzyM averages around 68. They have higher averages than even my state school.

If you're talking about research, then it is a different story. MSUCOM and RowanSOM probably have more funding for research than CCOM.

Since there isn't an "official" ranking system for DO schools I guess I just went by stats. I also didn't research as much into PCOM as much as others schools. But looking at it now they have a huge class size! Almost 300, I'd assume they'd take more of a initive sending out interview invites. They have a lot of seats to fill up.

Is the class size really tht big? I looked on the pcom website but i couldnt find it

I didn't get it either. Were people who got it signed up for some sort of newsletter?

No idea. I never opted to sign up for a newsletter for PCOM. I do get a lot of emails from MSUCOM even though I never submitted my secondary there.

Lol I just got it. What a farce. They should be ashamed. Also it says it goes to students faculty etc. I'm none of those.
