How do we accept the interview? When I click the link in the email I just see the general page that talks about their program and interview itenerary

There's a link to a qualtrics survey on the webpage right under the to do list that says "✓ Complete the interview day web form"

edited for accuracy lol

OOS rejected, congrats & good luck to everyone with interviews!

OOS rejected. Also for the people who are oos and did get an invite...do y'all mind posting y'alls stats? I have a phone call set up with the admissions people but I just want a general idea of why I didn't get in

Given my stats and being offered 3 interviews so far, I am truly starting to believe that many of these schools are looking beyond your numbers. I have below a 3.2 cumulative, science, and last 45, but my experience is varied and extensive and I think I wrote some pretty compelling essays. There needs to be something about you that sticks out from the rest. Even with good grades and scores (though Purdue no longer requires GRE so it doesn't apply in this case), they are looking for people who are going to add diversity to the class, whether that be cultural, experiential, or otherwise. It's for these reasons that I think it would be difficult to compare your stats to others and pinpoint an exact reason as to why you weren't offered an interview. Speaking to admissions is certainly a great step and something everyone should absolutely do, but there are some things that they just won't be able to tell you, such as how to aim to have a unique spin on your application. Another thing to keep in mind is that schools appreciate interests and experiences outside of veterinary medicine, such as music or art. An example I used is my makeup artistry and how it has provided me with an added level of cultural competency since I work with people from all sorts of backgrounds and skin colors. Just remember that numbers and traditional experiences are not always everything and you need to make them see who you are as an individual. I wish you and everyone else the best of luck!! <3

I had interviews 2 years in a row (IS) and was waitlisted but then didn’t get one last year. When I spoke with admissions after the first two interviews, they said I needed to improve my interview and that everything else was decent. My grades and scores were above average, but not by a ton. After speaking with them again last year after not getting an interview, they said that the number of applicants had increased by about 40%. I’ve heard that a lot this year with other schools too. So where I had been in maybe the upper middle part of the applicant pool I dropped down to the lower ranking of the pool. They told me to do things to show you’re still interested in education and can handle the rigors (like a masters program) and do other things to set yourself apart. While the numbers and scores are important to a degree, I think they’re wanting to see that you’re interested in further education and what different things you can bring to the school. Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

what kind of interview was it? conversational? open/close file? how was your experience the first two times? 🙂

If I remember right, you interview with 2 to 3 people for about half an hour. I believe one of the interviewers has seen your application. Somewhat conversational, but I recommend preparing beforehand. I thought mine went alright, but was pretty intimidated since a lot is riding on the interview portion. I didn’t feel rushed with answering which was nice, there was plenty of time to think through answers. The entire interview day is really nice though. There’s lots of students around to answer questions and talk to about the school

Does Purdue not have separate in-state and out-of-state interview dates? Also, do they not have a standard number of admitted in-state and out-of-state applicants? Looking at the class profile from the past two years, they had fewer admitted students for the class of 2022 than in 2021; also, the proportions of in-state to out-of-state were different.

They over accepted for 2021 (more oos accepted seats than they were anticipating) so I’m not surprised they accepted less for 2022. Typically they shoot for 84 students, with approximately half is and half oos.

AVMA Smart Brief. Subscribe to the emails and they’ll send you news articles everyday.
I second this. And if you need regular news, TheSkimm. It’s a very similar setup to the smart brief where it’s little synopses and links to articles if you want to read the whole thing.

was there an interview acceptance deadline? i had to change my e-mail address half way through the application cycle so I wont be sure of my status until i call them next week after the holiday :nailbiting:

Yes, the deadline for me was a few days ago.

OOS rejected...not exactly sure what they are looking for?

29 y/o male with 2 B.S. Degrees: Business Administration & Biology
3.5 GPA
11,200 hours animal experience (grew up on a farm)
17,680 hours veterinary experience (my dad's also a vet)

I advanced to phase II at Illinois, so my fingers are crossed I get an interview...hopefully someone there knows my dad or uncle lol

You can contact the admissions committee I believe to go over your application. They should've given you more information on who and when to contact them. They should help you see what areas you can strengthen your app in. I know they like diversity so possibly getting experience in a variety of veterinary settings. That also seems like quite a lot of hours. I also grew up on a farm and didn't have near as many hours as that.

Any travel plan recommendations? I am thinking I'd fly into Indianapolis and rent a car to get to West Lafayette - does anyone know of better options?

OOS interview! I was thinking of flying into Indianapolis and taking the shuttle? Less control than having your own rental car but seems cheaper. And then I was thinking of ubering while trying to get from my hotel to campus etc

Question for everybody! My interview is this Friday during the PM session. I see that they have activities planned all day long, with no scheduled break for lunch. I'm wondering what people are doing for lunch. Are you planning on skipping one of the activities or what?

I am looking at being on campus from 8AM until after the banquet, I just know I won't last from 7AM breakfast to 6PM dinner.

I’ve interviewed here before, and yes, there’s no official break for lunch. If you have an afternoon interview, I would recommend you eat before, or wait until you find out when your interview time is- you may not have one til later in the afternoon so you could go before then. I took lunch when there were a couple sessions that didn’t sound as interesting or were repeating later in the day. There are several restaurants in the Union building that is across from the parking garage where you catch the bus to Lynn Hall. From there, there are several restaurants close to campus that wouldn’t be a far drive if you prefer. Hope this helps!

That does help. Thank you!

As mentioned above I also just skipped a couple of activities to eat lunch. Just so you know there is a cafe that serves food (wraps, fruits and chips mostly) inside the vet school building so if you are pressed for time you can just eat there.

Did they send you the schedule?

Does anyone know the cheapest airline that flys into Indianapolis?

Is anyone else going alone on Friday (as in, no guest)?? I need a buddy!

I feel you.
I know of four children of vets that did not get in the first time. All 4 had to get Masters degrees first.

For those of you that interviewed last week, how helpful were the discussions? Also, do they put you in a tour, or are you allowed to go in whichever tour you'd like? Thanks!
