Someone mentioned a rumor about the next class size being 150. Has anyone heard anything else about this? During interview day, Shannon's presentation had that the next class size would be 105 though.

It's not so relaxed when you start. You'd have to constantly study to keep up with Perio, Dental Anat, Histo, Gross Anat. On top of that you have lab.

Can you break down the hours on the weekly basis Monday to Friday? Are we in lab/class from 8am til 1pm or 5? How much free time do we really have :| and how did you manage reading through every class to keep up? Is everyone studying super hard at this school

The first part of our semester we were basically in class for ~5 hours a day except for Friday, which was ~3 hours (so ~23 hours/week ). It wasn't a continuous 5 (or 3) hours at a time, there were breaks/gaps built in. You can have as much or as little free time as you want. It's all about your personal balance of school and leisure. You need to emphasize school but you also need to make time for fun stuff to maintain your sanity and mental health. Ultimately, this is graduate school, if you think you're just going to skate by doing the bare minimum, you're not going to make it. You're going to have read a lot of material from textbooks and/or lectures on top of practicing your hand skills in lab. Especially with PBL, everyday I "aim" for note taking 1 chapter and then reading a separate chapter's already completed notes. On the weekends, I try to give myself a "free" day then a study day, but that's not always the case.

You seem to have a handle on the balance part. Thanks for sharing.

I hope this didn't come off like I was trying to scare y'all!! You just have to shift your mentality a bit and realize that this isn't undergrad anymore. Everything you do (or don't do) matters. Find that balance and you'll be good. 😎

When I interviewed at LECOM, one of the faculty members came during lunch to talk a bit and said this in regards to us as dentists treating patients for what we health issues we discover (or miss) and recommend treatment or no treatment. This has stuck with me since and I think it's a really great perspective and challenge for us to provide the best care that we can for our patients.

Yes! That's exactly what I was hinting at. :highfive:

Not at all. I expect to be working. As you said, its professional school and we are training to be doctors. Couldn't be more excited for the struggle.

Hello
I have a AA of an 18 and a 3.72 GPA. I applied early August. Is there any possibility I will get an interview?

I know some schools don't like applicants to keep emailing them asking about status etc. Is LECOM the same?
Should we do anything while waiting on the alternate list?
I appreciate the feedback

I know jokerz posted a picture of what will likely be yalls color but I found a picture of the actual scrub color. Heres what our current D4's wear and what yall will likely be wearing
Do we wear the same scrub color for all four years?

I interviewed on January the 3rd. I haven't heard from the school yet even though I sent thank you letters and also a letter of intent.
Should I assume a snail mail with rejection is coming my way? or the people who interviewed the same day as me haven't heard from them as well. They said 15 business days, but it's been like 20 days now.

Also interviewed in January and haven't heard anything. Was expecting snail mail rejection but I don't know of anyone who has heard anything, so I don't know.

@Stanelz @joker16z so in the matriculation packet, they request the results of the background check and drug screen to be forwarded to Ms. Phillips' email. Do you all remember how to do that? I've completed both, and there is never any type of option to forward results. Help!!
Did you go through this in the applicationstation website? Is this the drug screen test? Thanks

Hi so I spoke to Shannon in person and she said that the results for January 10 will be sent this or next week so January interviewers may still have a chance.

Good to know, thanks for the update.

Thank you!! That relieves some stress

So those of us who's status changed to "a decision has been made" might still be emailed with an acceptance?

I'm not sure. she just said that she has not sent anything out for January interviewed since it's been busy. Hopefully we all get in lol.

I got one today as well, but how likely are we to be accepted if we interview at the end of February (the closest date available for me was the 21st)?

There’s still a chance, people in my class got an admission seat in May and even July.

I'm just curious , were they waitlisted or accepted directly in may? Thanks 🙂

They were accepted in May and July but I have no idea whether they were pulled from the waitlist or directly accepted after their interview.

Hey! Did anyone receive an email 7 days prior to the interview to confirm attendance?

I have not received a confirmation email... should I just call to confirm?

I think you have a chance. I have an AA of 17 with an oGPA of 3.8 and sGPA of 3.7 (applied w/ everything but DAT scores in July, took DAT in November), and received my interview today. Was really surprised I was only rejected from one school so far, but it just goes to show that there's hope for everyone!

Thoughts on specializing from lecom? How many current students show interest to specialize?

Possible if one puts in the work to be competitive. No different from any other school. But this schools focus is one making great general dentists. So take that how you will.

Hey yall! Just got an interview invite today! Is it normal for the school to already pre-select my interview date and time? I received the email today and the interview they selected for me is in 2 days (2/7). I am super excited and beyond grateful for this opportunity. My employer has already allowed me the day off to attend the interview, but I have been reading through this thread and have noticed some people selecting their own interview dates, just was not sure if I am missing something. Any feedback would be appreciated, best of luck to everyone.
Stay smiling 🙂
p.s. as a male what should I wear to the interview?

Yes, but they also don’t solely use pass/fail anymore because having grades helps you enter residencies more easily. I think that’s what the OP said at the beginning.

Suit and tie.

You will have every opportunity to specialize that you want. Going forward the didactic classes are now graded (used to be P/F) so we now get an updated rank after each semester. If you're thinking about going that route, everyone will recommend getting into research as soon as possible so you can get your name published and do well on the ADAT.

@Stanelz may able to answer more about this.

Many students interested, almost 100% match rate last year. Switching to graded didactics will help future applicants as long as you are willing to put in the work to get to the top 30ish of your class. Easier said than done.

1. Class rank/GPA
2. Research
3. Letters of recommendation (Based on stats has become more important than in previous years)
4. Extra curricular activities/involvement

Hey! So I received an interview invite for 2/7 on Tuesday. Should I attend this interview? I have already interviewed at a few other schools and got an acceptance from MWU IL. This just seems like a late interview and I don't want to make the trip if I am just interviewing for a spot on a waitlist.

That depends on how bad you want to go here, but no they don't interview people this late just to be put all on waitlist. They usually have few spots left so they invite smaller groups to fill up spots.
