*** The Official LECOM Dental Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread ***

LECOM has never shown up on my AADSAS. Before I had my interview, my LECOM portal said something like "Application is complete and awaiting review by committee". When I get the interview, it changed to "Invited for Interview". After interview, it went back to that awaiting review status.

Let's not read too much into these mass status changes.

Lecom is not even on my AADSAS and I had an interview there in october.

Interview this Monday Nov 18th, anyone flying into Tampa. Im renting a car and fly in at 6 pm, also if some one wants to split a room sunday night I would be down. Just message me

Brandon

I have something like "your application has been forwarded to the committee for further review, we will let you know if any changes occur" on LECOM portal. I will keep my fingers crossed and wait.

Had my interview recently and I have to say I'm really impressed by everything I saw. The facilities are just simply amazing being new and top-of-the-line equipment, the faculty and students were all really friendly and approachable, and Dr. Hirsch has such big things planned for LECOM... it really blew me away. One thing I didn't enjoy so much was that it seemed like a few people in my interview group were very aggressive and thought they had to comment on EVERYTHING someone said even if a question wasn't directed towards them. It sort of made me feel as though my interview went 'eh' because they were trying so excruciatingly hard to make their presence known and that LECOM is their #1 choice NO-QUESTIONS-ASKED-I'LL-SELL-MY-SOUL-TO-THE-DEVIL-AND-NAME-MY-FIRST-BORN-LECOM TO ATTEND. I don't know, maybe I'm just rambling for no reason since there was no real hostility, but it just felt like a few people were trying to hog the show and I hope the interviewers agree that becoming a great dentist doesn't involve being able to shout the loudest :diebanana:I can't say I'm complaining about the group interview process itself, because I thought it was a cool way to interview, it's just some of the interviewees need to relax a little bit more! 👍

I just interviewed about a week ago. They did mention and explain the whole accreditation process and how they see no reason why they wouldn't get accredited; they pretty much guaranteed accreditation. However, did anyone catch what Dr. Hirsch's presentation said about it and where they are in the process?
As a new school LECOM SDM has initial accreditation. The next visit from the Commission on Dental Accredition (CODA) will take place in March, and again sometime before the current D2s graduate. According to Dr. H, all currently enrolled students are guaranteed to graduate from an accredited program due to the fact they were accepted into a program with initial accreditation. While that may be little comfort to future classes, it's hard to imagine LECOM not achieving an approved status. For what's it's worth I'm a D1 so I don't even know enough to be dangerous (yet).

Hey Teeths I felt the same way! I interviewed on the 7th and it seemed to me that there were a couple in my group that were talking way to much and trying show off a little bit. Its good to talk but when your dominating the conversation I think the interviewers catch on to that. Since the curriculum is PBL, I don't think they're looking for people to dominate the conversation but rather people that put in their equal share. Overall I loved the school and would love to go there! You can't beat their kindness and facilities!

This study focuses on the MMI format, but you might find it interesting:

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1365-2923.2004.01776.x/full

Thanks free-- 👍 believe it or not, I've actually seen that study before! It makes some good points, and I totally understand why they hold group interviews because it's easier to assess certain aspects of the interviewees and the 'chance' factor in 'getting along with solely 1 interviewer' is decreased, which is also nice. However, in my mind LECOM almost makes it seem like their way of instruction or teaching at the school is through PBL only, which is not true because more dental-specific courses are held in the traditional lecture style. It's merely the basic sciences in the first two years that utilize PBL. I think the best way to learn is like a seminar style, which is very much like PBL, so that's great. I was just commenting on how I was surprised that some of the interviewees seemed a little more cut-throat than I wanted my interview to be. Like I said, there was no hostility in my interview at all, but even the interviewers were sighing after a while or would move their papers around because someone was talking WAY too long or trying to get a word in on every single answer the other interviewees gave. I just pray that they saw that as a negative and something those very few people needed to work on.. because I don't consider that very professional or group-friendly! 😛

I agree with your comment about those trying to dominate the conversation. It's like a professional courtesy to let others contribute. I just hope the interviewers think the same way... someone talking TOO much is just as bad as someone not talking enough in my mind!

I agree 100%
When I went for my interview at lecom I spoke to many of the d1-d2 students there. All of them seem to be laid back and speak very slowly and patiently. You can tell that lecom wants students that can respect other opinions and not cut people off when they're talking. Pbl is about learning together and they want people that can get along with others.

I would view it as a good thing because you're not rejected at this point! They're most likely waiting for updated grades when they give someone this status. 🙂

Teeths, your experience reminded me of my group. Not so much the entire group but this ONE kid. At one point, he cut off one of the interviewers, mid-sentence, to ask the other interviewer a question. I :smack:ed in my head. And what made it worse is that the interviewer that he cut off stared at him for like 10 seconds straight. I was mortified FOR him! Why, why why would you do that?? :nono:

Lecom finally showed up on my portal. I interviewed back in October and my status says invited for interview. The status defined says : applicant met criteria for interview, an offer will be extended when space becomes available..

Ditto. I interviewed in early Sept and LECOM just now (on 11/18) appeared on my AADSAS with the same exact message.

Interesting... I interviewed recently and LECOM still isn't showing up on my AADSAS 🙁

Mine also says the same thing and I also interviewed in September as well.

I also had the same status change and I interviewed in September.

Does anyone else who has interviewed already NOT have this status? I know I've interviewed recently but it has me a little worried LECOM isn't showing up on my AADSAS at all....

I just checked on my aadsas portal, saying that im "invited for interview" but I didnt get any email nor see anything on lecom portal. Those who got interview, is this how they invite for the interview??

I had my interview back in September and the method they used for the interview invite was via email. After I received the email, I checked my Lecom portal and they updated it there..nothing was updated on the aadsas portal though. I believe it was just a few days ago that the aadsas portal updated to "invited for interview" although I already had mine already. They will most likely email you tomorrow around mid-day and if they don't, don't hesistate to call the school.

Yea Teeths! Haven't been on SDN for awhile but congrats on your interview. If you thought the students in your interview were over the top then I'm sure your interviewers saw the same. Speaking the most won't make you a better candidate so don't worry about that. It's mainly to see how people work in a group, and even then I'm not sure it matters that much in the end. Good luck on December 2nd! Hope to see you here next July.

Thanks, Hawkteeth! I hope I hear some good news too haha!

Sorry if this is a repeated question, but anyone know if LECOM calls you if your accepted or mass emails?

Thanks!

I even checked the lecom portal for an update but there is still no change there. I guess we have to be patient
