Can someone explain the time lapse to me?

So I already submitted on Friday. And it takes 4-6 weeks to "process." Does this mean 4-6 weeks to actually send it to the schools, too, or does that tack on some more time?

Thanks!

4-6 weeks is the time it takes to be "transmitted to schools".

4-6 weeks is the time it takes to be "transmitted to schools".

And then the schools have to download it-- it says on a few of the secondaries that there can be another up to 4 week delay between transmission and them processing it. And people are already getting interviews! Dang.

I just need to focus and knock out all these secondaries so I can sit back and forget about the whole process for the rest of the summer.

Transmitted!!!

Later than I would have liked but happy nonetheless.

I submitted and paid 6\10, and still haven't heard anything. 😕

It asked "Are you currently under charge or have you ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, or have you ever received a felony or misdemeanor deferred adjudication?*
* a juvenile or criminal record that has been sealed or expunged. Failure to disclose information that is not in fact expunged or sealed may result in the applicant being denied admission "

Here's my situation, a year ago I was caught stealing but was never arrested. I think it was consider a petty theft case under 50 dollars. I was never convicted. The judge put me on probation and after that I got my case dismissed. My problem is that I dont know if I received a deferred adjudication or a deferred disposition. I never had to do monthly check ups or meetings with an officer. I just had to stay clean for 90 days. I recently got a lawyer to get it expunged two months ago so I think the expungement is still in process and I dont know if it will be completed by the time medical schools run my background check. Do I put in yes or no..

Ask your lawyer. Show them the specific language on TMDSAS and they should be able to tell you what to do. If you are retaining their services, they should help you with this.

Your payment probably took until the 14 to process, and thats really when you would be in line to be verified. My payment was received on 6/7 and I just got transmitted to schools last week. You should have about a week to go.

Just an FYI for others to go by: I submitted on 6/6/10, payment received 6/9/10, application was transmitted to schools 7/9/10. So exactly a month when submitted early June. Expect longer delays if you submitted later.

Thanks very much addo

Hey guys,

Very important question: Is it worth it to apply to TMDSAS if I have average stats and am not from Texas?

Worth it if you really wanna go and feel like you have a decent chance with things besides your raw stats.

Applying gets you some chance, even though TX heavily favors in-state applicants by state law. Not applying gives you no chance at all.

anyone know why it is taking so long to transmit. i remember last year a lot of people submitted mid/end june and they were trasnmitted in about 10 days. is it cause the application is different this year or are that many people just applying earlier?

I submitted at the very beginning of June and it still took 4 weeks. TMDSAS is a small office, I believe, and it does take a while to match and verify a bazillion transcripts against a bazillion applicants. But the wait time for us IS horrible. 😉

well i am saying in last years cycle it didnt seem to have this problem. people were submiting last year end of june and being tranmitted within 10 days or so. just wondering why it is different this cycle.

some people got interviews for UTHSCSA already

Since UT San Antonio, Galveston, and Houston dont have secondaries, if they do not consider you, do you even hear from them at all?

I got an email from UTMB last year saying that they had my app and it was under review not long after I submitted to TMDSAS (the year before they went to the new application).

I also got my rejection email in March '09. I still have it.

When was your app transmitted? mine got transmitted last week, and I havent heard anything from any Texas schools, except UNT.

Someone above mentioned that people are getting invites at UT San Antonio? Can this be confirmed? Has anyone received a "your application is complete" e-mail from UT San Antonio? I have yet to receive one and my application was transmitted on 6/23.

My application was complete 6/9 and I never heard anything from them. If you go to the San Antonio specific thread you'll see that there are actually a few people who've gotten them. My friend also got an interview email this morning.

Texas A&M just updated my secondary app page saying they've accepted my LORs

"How do I add another school once I have submitted my application?
To add additional schools to your application, you must send a written request to TMDSAS at the address listed on the bottom of this page.

Include your full name, TMDSAS ID and list the schools you would like added to your application. The written request should be accompanied by the additional application fee - $10.00 per school.

If any additional information is needed, TMDSAS will contact you directly once the request has been received."

So one has to send them a letter via snail mail to add additional schools? Really?

Anybody using their AMCAS PS for the TMDSAS app? Has it worked?

Yeah, I definitely used the same for both. I was drained after writing those other optional essays anyway, and writing another one at that moment would have made me :barf:. And then came the secondaries...

But yes. Good luck! 👍

Is it possible to get away with not list engineering classes under sGPA calculation for TMDSAS?

Because the upper level engineering classes really hurt the sGPA.

Has anybody tried this before? THANKS!

If you don't list them as science courses, and they think it should be listed that way, they will just change it after you submit... That will take more time, thus delaying your application. They fine comb those classes, don't think just because you list it as something else, they won't notice! It is what it is. Just list it as honestly as possible.

I used the same "core," but understand that they ask slightly different questions. TMDSAS also wants to know about your future plans while AMCAS doesn't.

I would spend the little time it takes to make your PS tailored to each application.

For those of you that are wondering, I know I was and didn't think anyone had the answer to it...

I submitted my TMDSAS and my application was sent out to the schools over a month ago, but my LORs were not in yet. I was getting worried because it took them so long to verify my application and send it out that I thought they would also take forever processing and sending out my LORs too! But my advisor sent them yesterday afternoon through VeCollect, and TMDSAS approved and uploaded them this morning for the schools. Pretty quick turnaround if you are using VeCollect, or Interfolio I would imagine. I'll let you know when I actually hear from the schools about getting them though!

Hey all,

I'm wondering where/how to put my tutoring into TMDSAS since there isn't exactly a section for it.... shud I put it under Extracurriculars/Hobbies?

Also... since I've done over 700 hours of tutoring/TA-ing in college for free, I'm wondering if I should put that I did it for free, and would they get suspicious of someone tutoring 700+ hours?? It was never really official... the profs just asked if I could do it and I said "sure!" lol. I'm actually hoping it comes up in the interview... but would they screen me out beforehand thinking I'm lying or something?

Anyway... here's the breakdown:

Spring 08
Biology I tutor
Introduction to Chemistry tutor

Fall 08
Biology I tutor
Chemistry I lab TA
Introduction to Chemistry tutor

Spring 09
Introduction to Chemistry tutor
Biology II tutor
Chemistry II tutor
Chemistry II lab TA

Fall 09
Introduction to Chemistry tutor
Biology III tutor
Chemistry II (half semester) tutor
Organic II tutor
Biology II lab TA

Spring 10
Introduction to Chemistry tutor
Chemistry I tutor
Biology II lab TA
Chemistry I lab TA

I made extensive review guides for Introduction to Chemistry as well. Clearly it would take over 300 words to explain all this, so how should I divide it up on TMDSAS? Also... I have no idea how many hours I've tutored/TA-ed... I know it's well over 700. How rough of a guess can I make?

Thanks for all ya'lls help!

If there's no way you can prove it, then there's no way they can disprove it. Just be honest and put a best guess. If you think about how much 700 hours is over a span of three years it isn't that much. No they won't "screen you out" because you put a huge number and yes, they almost assuredly ask you about it in the interview (I'd think about how you want to describe what you did).

Hey again,

I have a couple more questions.... I am currently a member of Lions Club (international service organization). I've held a few leadership positions in it, but since it's also a service club should I put it under College LEadership or Community Service??

Also... I'm wondering what to put in the description for Habitat for Humanity. My other descriptions almost fill the entire 300 character limit; is it okay to simply put "Build Team volunteer; helped complete 5 build projects"??

Lastly... I helped create a tutoring program for local schools. It took many many hours in planning and creating it before any actual tutoring was done... should I include these hours in the "cumulative hours" part? Or just the actual tutoring??

I really appreciate ALL your help. I'm so nervous about submitting it's driving me crazy!

For the first question, I would put it under both categories, but describe it under the category that you feel you are weak in.

I would elaborate a bit more on the Habitat, perhaps a little bit about what you did during the building projects, etc, but you don't have to fill it up.

If the activity is 'creating' the tutoring program, then I would include brainstorming.

These are just my opinions. Sounds like you've got some great EC's! 🙂

I have a quick question for anyone that applied to Tech and has already turned in the secondary... Does your status page acknowledge that they received your primary and LORs? Mine just says they have my secondary, and under the status it says "no status."

I called them last week to make sure they got my primary and they told me yes, but the online system seems to think that it was not received. I just don’t want my application to be delayed due to a glitch...

Mine says 'No Status' as well. No worries. 🙂

Question: Does everybody's A&M secondary page say that their primary/MCAT/LOR's have been received? I'm kinda worried as to why my primary is still not showing up as received. TMDSAS transmitted to schools 6/28.

Mine all show up, except my letters, which I had sent last week so maybe they need more time to update it. All my stuff was sent by TMDSAS on 6/1, but I think since its been about a month for you, you should call and find out whats up...

hey guys,

i have a question regarding Texas schools and when they actually confirm your application, your interviews, and what not. My status is "transmitted to schools" on June 10, 2010 and they officially have everything of mine (including MCAT, LORs, and transcripts). I have only been notified by TCOM, UTMB, and UTHSCSA that they have received my primary app (I was notified by San Antonio today, UTMB on 7/9, and TCOM on 7/7). I am a tad worried because I read somewhere that San Antonio is already giving interviews and in their email to me, they only mentioned that it has been sent to committee for further review. Does this mean something or am I thinking too into this? The people who have received interviews: is this normal or was your first email an interview email.

thanks for your help guys

I got all the same emails on all those dates. I'm not too worried about it. I'm just assuming that all the people who already have San Antonio interviews managed to get their apps in to schools earlier than I did. Mine was transmitted on 6/9

Hi guys!
I submitted my TMDSAS at the end of june and they received my payment on 06/29. I was wondering if anyone who submitted near my date were verified. I read that people who submitted on 06/11 got their app sent to schools last week, anyone after that..

Thanks!

It usually takes 4-6 weeks. TMDSAS began processing my app on 06/14 and it was finally transmitted 07/15.

You have at least a month to go before transmission to schools 🙁
