...and this is where I spent the last two years. 😛

Well, I found this little nugget on UTMB's website. It's a faculty meeting from the 13th. Among other things, the Dean of Admissions explains how UTMB approached the new admissions process, gives stats on the current projected roster (30/3.78), and says there's going to be a meeting in March in Austin to discuss process and that UTMB intends to argue for converting to a full rolling admissions process. Also, they only got 15 students from the match, and she pretty much said they used it as an opportunity to extend offers to students they interviewed after Nov. 15 (which explains my acceptance). Anyway, the relevant part of the video is minutes 19-27.

If that doesn't work, try http://www.som.utmb.edu/Announcements-Home.htm#Curriculum, and click on "Web rebroadcast of 02/13/07" under Faculty.

They also said they had 8 alumni/faculty admissions. Is that the same as legacy admissions?

Wow! That is very interesting to see. I'm glad you found it. I think if we've learned anything its higher GPA, higher MCAT, and earlier application!

UTMB felt that they would fall around their number (181) of pre-match offer acceptances. So they knew they would only accept around 15 with the match. It seems all the other schools knew they would only extend a few match offers except UTH (who sent the email). I'm thinking this is because the UTH did an amazing job with recruiting this year (what students there have said on SDN) and they thought a lot more people would decline.

I didn't watch the whole video so I didn't see the alumni/faculty admissions part, but it sounds more like they had eight alumni facutly department admissions. Like, alumni from the medical school or residency program were accepted to work for the school?

um, so how the heck am i supposed to fix my GPA now??? the app opens on may 1st and i've already graduated...ugh

I honestly think once you're passed sophomore year, there isn't too much you can do for GPA. you just end up with too many hours to make big changes. I think GPA warning are more for younger premedders.

If you want my advice, apply early, look at improving your ECs, and if you can see what was said in your LORs and try to get them even better too. 🙂 :luck:

It depends on how many hours you have taken in your first two years and how bad/good your grades were. When you look at it, most people have completed 50% of their credits by the end of their sophomore year. If you have a 3.0 at the end of sophomore year and make a 4.0 for the remaining two, then you will graduate with a 3.5.

It's goign to suck becuase if there is any waitlist movement, it's going to be hella late so I might have already resubmitted my application when getting a call for a school...??

And also, after sitting on an acceptance at say SW, some students might not even bother going to interview at other schools or withdraw from them b/c they already have an acceptance to a top school.

OH, and some ppl commented here that most ppl placed utsw as #1 in their match. Is this the same as the past? B/C I'm thinking that some people might have put (for ex.) UTH #1 and UTSW #2 thinking that they might have (for ex.) not interviewed well at UTSW so they had better chances at UTH BUT UTSW gave them an offer in anyways but b/c UTH was ranked higher they matched their #1 and the UTSW offer was not filled... so that's how 400 offers (or whatever) dwidled down to some 200 seats filled... thoughts on this???

Ok I'm going to throw this out there and you guys can get mad at me... but would it really be that bad if you were called for an acceptance??? I mean honestly. It might be inconvenient, but I think getting called of a waitlist would be EXCITING!!! Especially if you weren't accepted anywhere. But maybe that's me. If I hadn't been accepted anywhere and I got called I think I'd be happy to go, even if I was on a mission trip in at the time they called (yeah it happened to a guy who got into A&M. he was in africa, the school called his mom. you better believe he flew home to begin classes)

If they put UTSW as their #2 and UTH as their #1 and UTH accepted them, the computer never looks to see how high UTSW ranked them. TMDSAS doesn't explain their match system very much, but it's probably a whole lot like the residency match and there is a lot of info you can read up on that. UTSW had to make so many offers in past years because many people went out of state (or to Baylor). They actually make more offers than the other schools just to fill up those 220 spots. Good news for those on the waitlist.

No, I completely agree with you! I think what I was trying to say is that the waiting is going to be tough (and having to stop whatever it is I start to do for the upcomming cycle), but I still will drop and go to school unless there is some sort of crazy unforseeable circumstance. But waiting is just part of the process, so it's really unavoidable

I agree, I would love to get accepted the day before class starts. I won't be holding my breath though.

If they put UTSW as their #2 and UTH as their #1 and UTH accepted them, there is no reason for the computer to go down and see if UTSW accepted them. Ah I see... Good news indeed 👍

haha, wow. super creative.

Affirmative on the hair at least. I've long since settled for a simple Caesar out of laziness.

This year when u start med school you need to make an entrace. Things you should do:

1. Spike up your hair with high lights.
2. Buy some huge sunglasses from a BP.
3. 2 Korean Models on your arms.
4. Wear a Large, long, fur coat
5. Wear a tom hat.
6. Clean, Bright, White shoes
7. A Zoot Suit

Please add more.

Yeah it would be a pain and I definitely get that. But emphasize the positive... if you got called, you'd be going to medical school!!!! YAY!

I think its good too that some of ya'll are already looking at what to do for next year. I know I'm not in the same boat but its definitely what I would do. By george if you're meant to be a doctor you WILL be a doctor!

spiked hair and a hat? maybe a spiky hat with lights 🙂 And a Kramer like entrance through the door 🙂

I just received a rejection letter from Southwestern. I interviewed there, but I did'nt receive the waitlist e-mail sent Thursday. It pisses me off because I had already chose Houston, my number 1 prematch offer, as my first choice for the match. I feel like writing them back "No I rejected you", but that would be immature.......I hate rejection.

😱 snail mail or e-mail????????

sorry, that was funny in my head. I dunno though, if they thought you were immature would that be the worst thing? Or is our acceptance to UTH contingent upon us acting mature at all times? Because that could be a problem...... 🙂

I am going to be a little ticked off if the lady who sayed not getting the waitlist email does not necessarily mean bad news for me if I end up getting a rejection letter shortly

snail mail (I live in Dallas)......we don't want to burn any bridges. We may need them for residency in four years.

Hey, I did not even know there were more of us in Texas. Are you going to MS-0 day?

Yep, so excited! I'll pm you my facebook profile so I don't have to go around asking people if they're nene1985 like a freak 😛

I'm wondering the same thing. Does anyone know what alumni/faculty admissions is?

"MS0 Day March 23-24th"

which i got from the very facebook you were referring to...
i wonder if UTSW would force themselves to give out additional offers as some of the spots are cleared before the MS0 day. that would be awesome!

good luck to all of you(including myself) who are waiting...😍 waiting for baylor/oos schools to hurry up so we could be off the waiting list baby!

has anyone here taken courses from UT's public health school? sounds interesting

I recently earned my MPH in Chicago, but had a professor who took some coursework there. He said it was phenomenol. I also looked into it when I interviewed there, one of the best public health places in the country.

yeah...they locked the door between the LRC and Hermann hospital! Now I can't take the fast route to get my snack on...nor can I get to my secret bathroom, I have to use the high-traffic ones :-/

I got a snail mail letter from UTSA about waitlists today if anyone's interested. It's a pool (unranked).

3. 2 Korean Models on your arms.

I joked around alot on the Korean Premeds thread, but I was being somewhat serious about Korean women being crazy. There's a reason Korean dramas are popular and successful. Those women aren't acting. THeY CRAzY mANG

I know there are a bunch of Grey's Anatomy-ish nerds on this thread...but in case there are any normal folk, the Slam Dunk Contest is super entertaining this year.

Speaking of which, my deferral was granted (in lightning-fast fashion) by UTSW. So I am officially in the class of 2012, and that means my spot is going to one of you guys (fingers crossed.) Sorry to poach one of your spots, class of 2012.
