Pretty disappointed to not get in to my dream school A&M. I guess the lesson here is that the application process is definitely holistic and numbers don't guarantee anything. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted and good luck to everyone still waiting!

I wasn't accepted to A&M until Feb! There are a lot of factors that go into sending an acceptance letter. Don't give up, don't tell yourself it's over, but definitely keep working on any areas you think you need improve on ( volunteering, shadowing, GPA) until you get that letter.

At my SA interview, the Dean did say they can see where and how many offers/places you have accepted (only Texas schools).

Does anyone know if the Texas schools have sent out a waitlist/rejection letters yet? If they have sent out a waitlist, is it better to hear back and be on the waitlist, or to not hear anything back at all?

so people who have not heard back still got a chance in getting an acceptance?
In my cycle I got Pre December interviews from all the Texas schools but I only heard back from A&M on dec 1st. I got into Houston and SA in their next round of acceptances.
So you definitely have a shot.

Thanks for the words of encouragement!
I'm not giving up hope on being accepted, but I feel like whatever precluded me from getting accepted in this round of acceptances isn't going to change for the next rounds.

Sometimes it's not that you are unqualified, but that the schools have a ton of qualified applicants to choose from, and unfortunately they cant acc

Yeah so basically the way it works is like this.

On December 1st A&M may send out like 100 acceptances, they then give all of those acceptees 30 days to respond yes or no to the invitation. After those 30 days they will have a much better idea of how many seats they have actually filled, and usually from what i have heard that is usually 60-70 seats. From there they send out a next round in January, February, etc. Obviously even a few of those who were among the original 60-70 may decide to go somewhere else and withdraw their acceptance.

Obviously I'm not an Adcom member so i don't know the exact way it works, but this is what I have heard.

Although it may seem critical numerically there shouldn’t be any thoughts on polar conclusions. I think this is also applicable for individuals that were accepted as many of them may now be in a position to decide where they go and may be uncertain of their destination. Instead of thinking about chances and probabilities of acceptances, I would encourage those the haven’t heard anything to remain positive especially given the fact that this was only the first round of more to come. I know this is especially hard to do during these times but I personally think it would serve the best benefit. Is not over until all seats are taken despite the time in which this happens as long as there are available spots YOU can be the next one attending dental school next year 🙂

I was accepted to Houston and Dallas Dec. 1st and I'm going with Houston! Right now, I just have some questions about housing. I know it's really early to think about this, but I want to apply to UT Housing and I would really prefer roommates that are dental students as well. But, I don't know how to go about it. Does UT Housing have a roommate-matching service or should I just wait until the Facebook group livens up?

Im trying to get an accurate cost of attendance for both the Texas schools, does anyone know if this includes things like a computer, insurance, and other clinical fees and stuff like that. Thanks.

UT Housing application opens some time in January. They don't have a roommate matching service, you find your own roommate.
You can message me for more details.

For A&M the total cost they have listed is the actual COA. Everything is included.

Hello! Does anyone know the date and time of when the second round of acceptances are released? Thank you!! 🙂

Has anyone here received any interview invites from any of the schools since the first round of acceptances went out?

I'm getting interviews from the out of state schools I applied to, but obviously A&M was my top choice
Is it safe to decline the interviews now?

Actually I wouldn't expect to hear back from A&M so early. Last year I believe second round was in February. Faculty and staff are probably out same as students who don't return until the 7th of January. Committee then has to re review the close applicants. If last year was February for second round, I would expect the same again this year.

I agree, I called and they told me Feb was when they would be sending second round of acceptances.

What were some the reasons that made you choose TAMU over the others?

I made an extensive pro/con list and spoke with friends at Houston and TAMU. San Antonio was at the bottom of my list because I lived there once and didn't really enjoy it. For TAMU, it came down to cost (i was offered a small scholarship), clinical requirements being considered more rigorous than at other schools, taking boarding after the first year and getting it out of the way and the city of Dallas itself

my cousin get today: admissions visit at UTSD on 01-16 -2018 !!! happy for him!!!

So I still haven't filled out my FAFSA, is the school code for A&M 003632? Also, I forgot if she told us that it was better to answer the questions about our parents or not?

For those who got a San Antonio scholarship award, did you all receive the award email after accepting your offer or before accepting?

Does anyone know about getting health insurance through the school (Texas A&M)? I thought I remember seeing that somewhere, I didn't know if any of you currently in Dental School were on it or if anyone thought it was a good way to get covered.

Anyone know when second round for UT Houston goes out and if it includes post dec interviews. Interviewed 12/12, kinda anxious about it
Believe it is 1st or 2nd week of January for Houston! (Assuming from years before)

Yes that’s the school code. The school code is on the Financial Aid sheet they gave us. I just assumed it was better to answer the questions about our parents since on the FAFSA form it recommended adding their info.

I'm not on it, but they do offer it and some of my classmates are on it. I think they talk about it during orientation week? They'll probably send you literature on it as well.

I just called UT Health San Antonio and they said that second rounds are going out tonight at midnight. Best of luck!
Omgggg now I’m super nervous!!! Good luck to everyone!
