Touro COM - New York (TouroCOM-NY) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So are we gonna be classmates or what? What do you think of attending. 🙂

Touro is definitely one of my top choices.. but i'm still just waiting to hear back from one school I interviewed at.. i should hear back the second week of january. But, more than likely i will be attending Touro, and super excited about it 🙂 what about you?

I thought I'd be attending another school but after careful consideration and talking to my parents, I'll be moving to NYC and attending Touro. 🙂

There's a good chance I'll be choosing Touro (Harlem campus) as well! I'm probably going to mail my check this weekend (even though the deadline is Jan 10th) because I'm neurotic.

I interviewed 12/16 as well and haven't heard back so hopefully today will be the day!

Any current students here want to share the syllabus?
Not trying to be a gunner but I have 8 months of nothing planned and would like to do something productive.

I received an acceptance to the Harlem campus (at 11:57 am)! I interviewed on the afternoon of December 16.

Stats: ~3.6 cGPA, 33 MCAT, decent extracurriculars

I just wish the deposit wasn't so much!

Congrats all, and good luck to those still waiting (for decisions or interviews).

For those who have been accepted:

The acceptance email spoke of a "Return Form" to fill out when you send in the deposit. Did anyone receive this follow up email with the "return form"?

Also - Is the admissions office closed this week?

Thanks

I'm still waiting for the return form as well.
edit: just got it through email.

And nobody received a rejection? I wonder what percentage they reject...

Consider those rejected the ones who never get a secondary and interview

For paying $200, I don't think they will waste anyone's time inviting for interviews just to reject them without waitlist consideration after all that screening (unless you mess up badly without return during interviews).

You have a really good GPA and MCAT so it's safe to say something was said/happened during the interview that caused you to get waitlisted. I know a few people with lower stats and were accepted.

Does anyone know when the next round of interview invitations will go out?

when i called Touro last week, they said that the next round should be going out this week, for interviews starting on Jan 20- March

Does Touro-NY send complete emails? I got the one saying they received my secondary about 2 weeks ago but my check just got cashed last week. I sent my letters via interfolio on December 9th, btw.

Thanks!

Received the secondary just recently. Is this school worth the $200 fee, especially this later in the cycle? 3.65/3.6, 33 mcat

It's not late for Touro. Their interview season starts and ends later than most schools.

The question of whether it's worth it is entirely up to you. It was for me 🙂

Yeah... I'm getting the vibe that they are really looking for 30+ this cycle.
One of my co-interviewees had the same MCAT as you. That's not a bad score and the MCAT is just one component of your application. There's one thing I've learned about this process it is very unpredictable and no one knows anything until it actually happens. So don't count yourself out yet. I don't know if it'll make a difference but I suggest sending them a letter of interest. I can't hurt you. It beats silently waiting.

For those that got accepted, do they send you an email to notify you that they received the deposit? Or should I call them to check?

I called to check because of the storm and all, they said they would email me (which they did once they got it) but Sean seemed to say they don't usually notify you.

Agreed. I had two co-interviewees with sub-30s. They want 30ish average but there are many other factors too.

Is there a facebook page or class thread for the incoming class yet?

Was accepted to Middletown campus, but will be turning it down. Just wanted to say there is hope for people with sub-30 MCAT's. I had a 28

That is good to hear. Congrats on your acceptances.

I know you this is way early, but for those of you who were accepted to the Harlem campus, I am going to have an opening in my apartment for next year (on 113th and Adam Clayton Powell) Once you guys have a Facebook group, I can post it in there with more details.
Also, I am on the first year social committee and we would love to get any prospective students or accepted students involved in our events during the semester so you can begin to socialize with us and with one another. We will ultimately plan a bunch of events the week before orientation, but once again, when you guys have a Facebook group, just post it in here and I will send the invites to events to the group.
Congrats to those who have been accepted and good luck to those still waiting to hear! It's a pain of a process, but all worth it when yo uget that acceptance letter!
Any questions, feel free to message me!

I submitted my AACOMAS application back in November; of the dozen or so schools I applied to, all except Liberty and TouroCOM-NY have either sent me a secondary or have outright rejected me. Is Touro unusually busy processing applications, or have they silently rejected me?

Did you report any misdemeanors on your aacomas app? Mine got held up for a month and a half because of a misdemeanor. Apparently it can keep you from getting licensed in certain states.

Nope, unless I somehow forgot to answer that question.

I just withdrew my acceptance. Good luck guys!

It was just November. I submitted in Sept and got interviewed /accepted in Dec. just be patient. At the end of February you're allowed to panic.

Congrats on your acceptance. Which campus did you get accepted to? What made you reject?
Thank you. I got accepted to the Harlem campus. I was recently accepted at CCOM and I'm waiting to hear back from 3 MD schools I did interviews at, so I know I won't be attending. I liked the school but I liked CCOM even better.

I submitted mid October and received my secondary mid November. It seems to take about a month. But maybe the holidays dragged yours or a bit. If you don't get an secondary by the end of the month I would write it off as a silent rejection.

What did you feel about CCOM that made it stand out more?

Mostly it's because of the vibe I got from CCOM: the staff seemed really invested in their students success. Besides that I liked the facilities better and CCOM has an amazing reputation and match list.
