Touro - Nevada (TUNCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We have physiology TBLs that revolve around cases. We also have biochem PBLs that do the same thing but with an added concept map component. Both the biochem and physio are basically very hard group quizzes, but it helps you keep up on the material for the exam too.

Edit: biochem's occur about every 2 weeks (1 semester), physio is every 3-4 weeks (2 semesters).

how many people get accepted from this waitlist usually? How do they decide who gets chosen since they request you to not send in letters of intent and not to contact them too often...? is it a strict number ranking system?

people experiences would be appreciated!

Not sure I know people got accepted off waitlist on the 7th, me included. Our deposits were due yesterday so maybe some spots will open up this week if some people didn't pay. I believe its a strict ranking. I would send in my spring grades and updated information to amber if you have any ECs added.

I spoke with amber on Monday and she said that the waitlist has been ranked and is in the final order. she said as people drop out of the class they just choose the next person on the waitlist. I'm not sure how many people get accepted off of the wait list for this school. When I interviewed at touro California, they said that only about 60% of the people they accept actually end up going there. I have read other places that a significant portion of the final class is from the wait list also. When I asked amber if she knew what percent of the class comes from the waitlist usually, she just said that it varied year to year.

I wish I knew more, or even if I was high, medium, or low on the waitlist. I really liked this school and would love to attend. The waiting is killing me! Every time I get a phone call or email I am hoping it is from them!!

I feel your pain, I am on the wait list too. What is even worse is that this is the first year that they stopped giving out high, medium, or low wait list so we are completely in the dark. I don't know if I should even hope for it or completely move on -__-. If previous year's threads are any indication, there is a good chance of being pulled from the wait list. Last year, pretty much everyone on the high wait list got accepted which is pretty encouraging.

Just sit tight because notifications will be going out straight up until the end of July so try not to stress out (there will be plenty of that later). They say that the one of the happiest periods of medical school is the summer before it starts, which we basically won't have if we continue to stress. But I know what you mean about phone calls and emails, if I don't check my email hourly I get nervous.

Just wanted to give people hope: I just withdrew my acceptance! Interviewed 4/9, waitlisted ~ 2 weeks later, received the acceptance email from Amber 5/29, and declined today. Good luck to those still waiting for news!!!

Anyone call recently and ask about the waitlist and how far along they are? I've been trying to get a hold of Amber but I keep getting her voicemail.

Is it possible to look up the TUNCOM student's pass rates on the boards? Also, are there any TUN third or fourth years here that would be willing to answer a few questions for me?

Thanks in advance!

I posted pass rates earlier in this thread, I believe it was 94% 1st time COMLEX passing rate and a similar USMLE rate. National average is around 91%.

Thanks! Also, where can I find the match list for the class of 2013?

Is there a student profile for the Fall 2013 class yet? I heard the entering stats went up this year.

After a lot of deliberation (and I mean a LOT), I've relinquished my seat at TUNCOM. Seriously, toughest decision of my life.

Good luck to those on the waitlist!

i am getting knee surgery a little bit before school starts. i will be on prescription pain meds for the start of the semester, or at least for orientation. I saw somewhere, i think on the tuncom website that there is a drug test. is this true, and if so do prescription drugs count against you?

I would imagine you could probably provide a prescription for your medication to prove you are on it legally.

Is there a Facebook group for housing or people looking for roommates! especially for those of us who just got off the wait-list!

I just messaged you all the info 🙂

Hey can someone send me a link to the Facebook group? Also can anyone give me some housing info?

I posted this in the Facebook group but I'm a DO'17 and I'm wondering if anyone is looking for a roommate! Please message me!

To be fair in my interview everyone busted out their phones during that break in between interviews. Phones are so addicting it's hard not to check your social feed often.

I agree though that in an interview, no matter how tempting it may be, you shouldn't be on your phone when someone's talking. It's common courtesy. You wouldn't be on your phone if you are on a date. Same thing applies to interviews.

4 years danny boy...you are wrong.

Well from where I was sitting I got a good view of the whole group and I could see everyone's name plates. I just observed things that I would be consider to be in bad taste/form. I saw some people dozing off, no doubt tired from their long travels. I also saw JQ from UT tapping away on his phone in plain sight for most of the time. I was too far to say anything, but I didn't think it was a good etiquette. I am sure whatever we did before the interview wont' have too much bearing on the outcomes, but if it was you, I just wanted to let you know to be careful about whatever you do cause we don't' know how our actions will be misconstrued. Anyway, best of luck to all.

and your point is?
