Touro - Nevada (TUNCOM) Discussion Thread 2012 - 2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thats good, He has a BS in mathematics probably enjoyed hearing about math research.

Yeah, but Dr. Ioudina rolled her eyes when I discussed how the osteopathic philosophy was a little superior to the allopathic philosophy. but she laughed too

Two questions...Does anyone know anything about the $1000 deposit and does anyone know what the laptop model is this year?

Dell, and I don't know about the 1000.00 dollars 😵

The Dell guy graduated from my high school
The entire school operated on Dell
I haven't used it since
Lol

gonna use an ipad for day to day and the laptop only if necessary...why couldn't touro give us ipads instead? or a lighter laptop. portability isn't dell's forte

yeah I'll probably use my mac mostly and only use the dell when it's required. Also, has anyone received matriculation packets or anything from the school?

Dude, weren't you on your phone the whole time when Amber and Dr. Wells were talking? Not cool bro. If anything that will hurt you more than a letter to the dean will help.

Dang calling him out but amber did say letters of intent aren't necessary at this point. Id wait until the wait list starts moving.

No, what are you talking about?

During my interview amber said it LOI wouldn't be added to our files at this point. The only thing that would make a difference would be updating our fall grades.

I asked Amber too and she said I could send in a letter of intent.

You can send it in but the committee met on friday (based on the timeline she gave us), so a decision has been made already and now it has to go to the dean for approval. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday is a jewish holiday (passover) so I doubt we will find out our fate until friday the earliest. I'm going to check on my status then and Im going to ask her if I should send in a LOI. I think it will be more beneficial for improving wait list rankings. So to answer your question you can send one in but I would wait to see what the decision is. It wont help you at this point getting straight accepted but it might help you move up the wait list rankings. Just my thoughts.

She said there were two stages of approval. The admissions committee that met this past Friday, as well as the one that meets every month...I think?

Thats probably when she meets with the dean for final approval. She said we would have a quick turnaround on 3/18, 2-3 weeks.

Eh, I thought it was another committee?

just going with what Amber said during the interview. But I doubt there is two admissions committee. A committee and a monthly dean approval meeting makes sense. I really liked the school, Hope I get in I was looking forward to moving back in with my dad in NYC but I think id like Nevada better. I really think I aced my interview too.

Same here. I have a long shot from where I am as I only have one medical school and Touro University Nevada has the ambiance of my former college/high school. It was small, quaint, and the halls were empty most of the time. It kind of has that "homey" touch with much much more. Plus, I was impressed with their anatomy lab. I wish I could have seen their research facilities though =/

didn't you apply for LECOM in bradenton? I see that you are beary close to there.

Yea I have a bunch of friends that went/go there. I put my secondaries in really late though. They put me on pre-interview hold. Thought id be a lock at LECOM-B with their affiliation with my alma mater USF. My MCAT is low 25 (going to retake this summer if I don't get in honestly didn't study for it) and I need to retake some classes I did poorly in earlier in my academic career. I got rejected from NOVA too. Still waiting to hear back from Touro-NY, and NYIT.

Well, I went and interviewed there. I was waitlisted because I think that I didn't do great on my interview as it was with a group =/. My MCAT is a 26O and I'm going to reapply and take the exam again if I don't get in. I really, really like this school and I hope that I get in. I got rejected from most MD schools in Florida and I have yet to hear back from my state school. If I had my choice, I would rather go to Touro than my state school as I feel they have a better medical program.

I know Touro-NV likes science majors (92% of matriculates) I have a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Ive worked in a microbiology lab for 3 years now im doing clinical molecular micro research ( PCR assay validation/clinical trials). Dr. Tomlinson seemed impressed with my micro background thought Id have an excellent background for infectious diseases. Plus I have a 3.8 GPA in my medical science masters.

I'm still going to send my LOI, regardless of what other people think. I think that it shows something, no? I sent my thank you notes over night and not by email. I thought about handwriting them, but then again I have messy handwriting =/

Yea LECOM-B is a great school, Ive been in florida for 8 years kinda looking forward to something new.

Hahha, I come from the most boring state in the nation. I'm looking for a new area too.

Yea Im just waiting to see if I get waitlisted to send it in. I dont think it will hurt.

Well, if you weren't the guy on the phone I wouldn't worry about it. What state are you from?

Well, I have an honors degree in biology and Dr. Ioudina seemed to like it I think? Dr. Domlinson was all math research lol. I liked that a lot. 🙂

A state that is right next door to Nevada. I can tell you that we share a border town with Nevada. There are two casinos that share parking lots on our side. That is all I am giving to the readers here....I'm still in the running with another school. I hope I get in here. 🙂

Well from where I was sitting I got a good view of the whole group and I could see everyone's name plates. I just observed things that I would be consider to be in bad taste/form. I saw some people dozing off, no doubt tired from their long travels. I also saw JQ from UT tapping away on his phone in plain sight for most of the time. I was too far to say anything, but I didn't think it was a good etiquette. I am sure whatever we did before the interview wont' have too much bearing on the outcomes, but if it was you, I just wanted to let you know to be careful about whatever you do cause we don't' know how our actions will be misconstrued. Anyway, best of luck to all.

Way to blow the hints....

To be fair in my interview everyone busted out their phones during that break in between interviews. Phones are so addicting it's hard not to check your social feed often.

I agree though that in an interview, no matter how tempting it may be, you shouldn't be on your phone when someone's talking. It's common courtesy. You wouldn't be on your phone if you are on a date. Same thing applies to interviews.

The phone, as the guy claimed, was not during the actual interview.

It may not be at the actual interview but from what the other guy said you were on it the whole time. I'm assuming that was also when amber was talking and also when the dean was talking.

If so then that's not good they may or may not pick up on those things.

If I am wrong then I apologize.

All I am saying is to always put your best foot forward.

It was not during the interview...I paid attention the whole time. I was responding to emails. Geez.

Please Touro T_T, I want to be a part of your university!

MCAT's kind of low and I would recommend retaking, but I would say you have a shot.

I think it's best to retake it. You have a chance if you apply early but your chances would increase if your MCAT was a bit higher

I recommend retaking it as well you can apply in june and still retake it in august. Interviews don't start until september. I received an interview with a 25 but thats the minimum.

Does anyone know how many seats are left in the school and if the are sending out acceptance/rejection notices yet?
