August 11th for MS-2s. Maybe a week before for first year orientation? Thats just a guess though

oooo thats good to know, cuz i definitely expected it to be like last year and thought school didnt start til 1st week of september...now i need to plan my summer accordingly. Thanks Lee!!!

Anybody interview w/ me on Jan 8? Have you heard anything yet?

Hey JShineDoc, I interviewed on the 8th and just got the good news today (Good news being that I'm in)...Hope all goes well on your side...

No prob! We only started in Sept the past year because the building was not finished entirely. Our first week of class was still in the Academy of Medicine (??). But, all is done, so we're back to a normal start time....

Hey guys, I'm new on here. I just got an email that TOUROCOM received my supplemental application. My LORs from the pre-med committee at my school still are not in yet (the lady who sends them was out of the office all week 🙁). But the email seemed to suggest that upon receiving the LORs, I will be contacted about an interview. Does anyone know if everyone who turns in a supplemental app definitely gets an interview?

I know I'm a little late in the process, but cross your fingers for me! 🙂

Congrats JShineDoc! Does anyone have an idea how full the class is?

How much in loans did the first years this year have to take out? Including living, that is... At the interview, they didn't mention the total cost of everything

60,000

does anybody remember when Obed said people on the waitlist would be hearing? I know he said it would be before the end of interviews, and I think he said February, but that could be just wishful thinking... anyone know for sure what he said?

I think Touro interviews through April Meggie.

For those of you accepted and going to Touro-NY I am curious as to when you guys are planning on moving up there. I currently work for princeton review and make some descent cash with them. I was thinking of going up a month or two earliar and enjoying the NYC life before Med School starts. I would get transferred by princeton review to an office up there so I would have some income coming in to pay for rent and food.

Any of you guys thinking of going up a month or so earlier to enjoy NYC???

I am not moving to NY because I already live here, but I would really recommend that you move up here a month or even more prior to the start of the semester. This will allow you to get to know your new city, and believe me there is a lot to see in NY. Once classes start, you won't have much time to explore...so I would say you should definitely take this opportunity now if you can! You can PM me if you want to find out more about NYC life...🙂

lol, im actually originally from jersey and have been to new york a lot! Ive never actually lived in the city which is the intrigue for me...living in the city and enjoying life in the city before med school starts. But yea ive been going to NYC since I was 5 and I still dont feel like I have seen everything NYC has to offer!

Have I lost my mind or is there no thread for touro-ny class of 2012?? I can't seem to find it anywhere! 😕

Yes, I also don't know how. Can someone please start it???

According to Obed and Dr.Cammarata, the Fall 2008 semester is going to start Aug 18th. I'm not sure about orientation for first year students...I think they're still deciding on that. Anyone know?

Is streaming lectures up yet? I heard they should have been last year but just wondering. How are the streaming lectures, quality, accessability? Thanks!

Hey, can someone please tell me what classes we'll be taking first and second semesters of MS1 and MS2?

Thanks..

Just Kidding, I found the catalog..

Is it too late to apply? I haven't sent anything yet and I don't have a LOR from a DO. 3.4 UG GPA from William & Mary, 3.1 GPA from Columbia University in Master's in Pharmacology, MCAT 26R. NY resident living in Manhattan.

am i competitive enough to get in at this point? can I still apply for fall 08 or should I wait to apply for fall 09?

Is this a joke, or are you serious?

It sounds like a joke....

Anyone?

You should really call admissions and ask them.

Have you submitted a primary yet? Doing that and having it processed by AACOMAS and then by TouroCOM (they screen primaries before sending secondaries) could take weeks. You're really looking at not even submitting your secondary for another 3-4 weeks at the earliest, and then hopefully scheduling an interview after that. Essentially, you'd be interviewing in very late March or in April, and there'd be very few seats left.

Also, I don't know the requirements, but do they say they require a DO letter? If they do, then you should get on the hustle and get one if not for this year then the next.

Uh WTF? why would you think this is a joke? I just joined this thread because I just learned about osteopathic medicine 3 months ago when I found out my doctor was a D.O. Excuse my ignorance but I didn't realize it was the same thing as an MD until recently after researching it for the past 2 months. Now that I realize there are no significant differences that would keep me from applying, I realize that the application process is winding down and am still wondering if its worth it to apply to NY Touro this late in the game. Its a legitimate question and I'm really offended by your insinuation to the contrary. To anyone else who actually has sympathy to my plight and even the slightest decency and compassion, thank you in advance for your responses....

I believe the deadline to submit primary application is long gone.. but not sure about the secondary for Touro-NY - that is specific per school.

yea i think its too late to apply for the 2008 cycle now unless u have already submitted ur primary so u might ahve to wait to apply for the 2009 cycle...best of luck next year tho

From AACOM : http://www.aacom.org/people/colleges/Documents/TOUROCOM.pdf

AACOMAS deadline is April 1st
Secondary Deadline is April 15th

From my experience, it takes 3-4 weeks to process a primary application (If you can get your transcripts there ASAP). Again from my experience Touro got back to me within 2-3 weeks with a secondary application. Sounds as if you are going to be cutting it really close and the class might be full by the time they interview you.

Long story short, I would contact Obed to see if you are waisting your money before going through the process.

Best of Luck

I know this has been brought up a few times, but is a secondary application a guarantee for an interview (I've seen some conflicting answers)?

Also, for those that sent a secondary, how did you go about the personal statement? Did you use anything from your AACOMAS statement?

Thanks in advance.

i think this late in the game, all bets are off. i wouldn't count on anything.

Uh. I'm sorry that I apparently offended you...It just seems like that's the umteenth time I've seen that question. It was the "I haven't sent anything yet and I don't have a LOR from a DO." that made me think you wern't serious.

By the way, if that's all it takes to offend you...wowza.

As for your actual qustion, their deadline isn't until april (neither is Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine or Touro NV) so um...I guess not, but like the posters above me said, it could take several weeks to process your primary application. I second what they said about calling the school to ask.

Good luck.

People are beating around the bush a little in political correctness, here. The answer is "yes, you're too late." Of course, people realize that there are still spots open in the class and so long as that's true there is, of course, still some possibility of acceptance. That possibility for somebody just completing their primary applications or just sending their reviewed primary applications to schools now is slim to none, however. I'd also recommend you refrain from saying "i found out that DO's are just the same as MD's!" when discussing why you want to become a DO if/when you end up in a DO interview.

From what i know, false. If you get a secondary you have always been able to, and still should expect an interview once you complete that and send it in. My guess is that they're probably sending out less than in October and November, though.

even so, if you're interviewing let's say april, you're probably interviewing for a waitlist spot. maybe I'm wrong.

not to change the subject, but has anyone on the waitlist heard anything yet? bond?

By April, I think the likelihood of acceptance is heavily outweighed by the likelihood of waitlist. You can call this "interviewing for a waitlist spot" but that's really innaccurate so long as there are spots open in the class. Truly "interviewing for a waitlist spot" would be them telling you on interview day "Our class is currently full, so do your best to get as high on the waitlist as possible." The chances you'll be told this are slim, even if it were true.

Nothing. I really need to get on the ball and start writing to them. I've really taken a month break from the whole apps worrying thing. My best guess would be that they'll interview through April and begin accepting off the waitlist once people commit to a school in May. I've been reading here and there that people are dropping their accpetances at TouroNY for other schools so I do expect movement. Hope all is well, MeggieLou.

Point taken, I know of some schools that were full in Feb and they are contiuning to interview candidates. They don't tell them they are interviewing for a spot on the waitlist either.

What schools have you heard were already full in Feb.?! Just curious cause from what I've seen on here and heard from my friends, plenty of schools (D.O. and M.D.) are sending out interview invites for March right now.

Hi everyone... I have a few quick questions for people that interviewed at touro -new york... first, which airport should I fly into?? and which hotel did you guys think was best as far as cheap rate and closeness to the school? and lastly, did you guys rent a car or just use taxi's and/or public transportation to get to the interview and back to the airport after the interview was complete...Thanks alot!!

I landed at 7:15am and hightailed it to the interview....

I flew into JFK...and much to my chagrin PASSED Laguardia in the taxi on the way to the interview.

So um. Yeah. Not JFK.

I relied on taxi's, the same way I always do when I'm in NYC. That and the subway. There is a flat fee from laGuardia to the school, and I don't recall what it was, but I remember thinking it wasn't that bad . My hotel (the raddison martinique on 32nd and broadway) called me a car to get back to the airport, which was like 50.00 and awesome.

One issue to ponder with LGA is the weather (snow, wind, rain). If the weather is Bad, LGA is the first to become delayed and then closed. I don't know how many times I have been delayed this winter going into LGA due to high winds.
Good luck

does anyone know what the fafsa id is for tourocom? is it the same as touro college?

I know MSUCOM is already full because I spoke with an admissions counselor. I have a feeling other schools are full as well, especially since this was a record year for number of applicants.

:bump:

We should be using this thread instead of the one that's been posted by the future-interviewee on page 1, probably.
