TUCOM-NV Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey for all the ppl that interviewed here recently, did the interviewers give you guys their cards also? cuz my interviewers gave me their cards with all the info and I was thinking of whether to send em a thank you email or not

Lol i think that's a main reason why they would give you their contact info. And why would you have a doubt sending a thank-you note? I dont think there would be anything bad that would come of it... So go ahead and send that thank-you email

I actually think they give it to you ahead of time because they know that you are going to ask for it ahead of time. Rather than having a mob of students hounding them for their contact info, they provide it for you (except for my interviewers, who were getting new cards printed up).

I sent a polite and concise email. I went to the staff directory on the website and found their emails and did it that way, so no biggie

Does anyone know if rotations during the third year can be done at a rotaton site outside of the Nevada area?? I know 4th can be done anywhere we'd like but do u guys know about 3rd year?

Has anyone called to confirm what the "accepted wait list" is? I just got a letter that I'm on the accepted wait list and I'm not sure I remember what Oscar said about it.

Melissa ( I think we interviewed together- you have curly, blonde hair right?) I got a letter saying I'm on the accepted wait list too!!! I really hope we both get in. I'm excited 🙂

Accepted waitlist means ur accepted but the class is full. When ppl decline their acceptance offer to go somewhere else, ppl from the accepted waitlist are pulled out to fill the seats.

Usually every 3 weeks they pull ppl from the accepted waitlist (according to the admissions office) since those offered an acceptance have to respond within 2 weeks from the day thy receive it.

I interviewed 2/23 and was placed on the accepted waitlist too. Oscar told me that we probably wont be hearing anything until after April 7th (after interviews are done and after they come back from spring break). Does anyone know how many ppl are usually placed on the accepted waitlist?
This wait is no fun..I hope we hear back soon!

Yep. I'm not sure I'd call it blonde, but that's me. Congrats! I really hope we get in too! I can't tell who you are from your name so you should post it on here or PM me. Good luck! =)

I would also like to know how many people are on the accepted wait list. And do we know if it's ranked? Or do they re-evaluate candidates?

all great questions....well tomorrow is the last day for interviews so hopefully some news soon

Oh sorry..it's Porsha (the British girl 🙂 Good luck to you too girl! It we be awesome if we both got in wouldn't it? I'm excited and pretty confident that we're in...I'm sure quite a few people won't be paying that $1000 by May 15th haha

Hey, Porsha! Somehow, I totally knew it was going to be you. =) I'm super excited for us and it would be the absolute best if we BOTH got in! We'd even start class knowing at least one another. Good luck to everyone else too!

Just so you know, that doesn't mean they get dumped on the side of the road. We were told if there was an issue to notify them immediately and it would be handled.

I don't think that's what she meant at all. I believe she means that people will choose not to pay the deposit if they decide not to attend. I wouldn't imagine that many students can't make the deposit for financial reasons but I would imagine that there are several that have multiple acceptances and hang onto all of them until it's time to pay deposits.

just got letter...i'm also on accepted waitlist...hopefully it goes somewhere..good luck to you girls..

and keep in mind, the $2000 deposit is 90% or 95% refundable, so many people put down the deposit and hold on to the acceptance until the last minute in which they can still get theit money back, even if they don't really plan on going there..

I am getting ready to re-apply next cycle and was wondering if anyone had any ballpark figures for average gpa and mcat for touro-NV. Thanks.

Melissa- you're so right...it would be awesome going in knowing each other. You knew exactly what I meant too- I know that a lot of people held their position with the initial deposit, but they have to make a decision by May 15th so if they chose an alternative school they definately won't be paying the second deposit.

Good luck to everyone else on the waitlist! I hope there are spots available for all of us 🙂

Hey, I'm trying to get an idea of how many of us are on wait lists so we can more easily keep each other informed. So if you have received a letter that you're on the WL, add your name and which wait list you are on if you know that information. Also, if you'd like to, put if you've been accepted at other schools too, so we know what your plans are. I have added the few that I saw on this forum already. Please add yourself and re-post!

From what I was told, they will not go over our applications and rank us until mid-may...have you heard similar story, can u confirm this?

I'm waitlisted as well, and couldnt be anymore anxious and frustrated of this waiting process.:scared:😡🙁😳

Somebody mentioned that interviews ended? How has it ended if the deadline for the secondaries is April 1st? Did someone call in to check? How does everyone think of the school?

You're right. They are supposed to tell us our rank on May 17. I know how you feel...the wait is so frustrating! 🙁

Stay positive and optimistic! I understand that the waiting process can be very frustrating. Stay connected with the Touro staff, continue sending them letters of recommendations if possible, and continue demonstrating your concerns, questions, agitations, rant if you need to. It helps to speak to someone. I have been accepted to Touro for the class of 2014 but in the recent past I have been in your shoes. I hope to see you there, good luck!

Persiann and newmoon ... did your letter state accepted wait list or just wait list?

Thanks, HopefulDO! Congratulations on your acceptance! I'm trying to stay optimistic and I have been in regular contact with Oscar. It's just hard to
stay positive because I am a reapplicant and I was wait-listed last year too. It's such a long wait but I'm hoping I have better luck this year.

I am on the regular wait-list.

I'm positive interviews are over..march 22 was the last interview day. According to susan in admissions, the class filled up much faster than they expected..thats probably why they cut interviews so short..

I interviewed mid March. Did everyone who interviewed late basically interview for a waitlist spot? If that's the case then I wish they could have told as that when they invited us.

I'm prettyy sure that was the case but when I asked oscar on interview day, he said there were still spots. Maybe there was 1 or 2 spots I guess...but even If it was full they wouldn't tell us so that we don't go in feeling discouraged

I interviewed in late January.

Would you have not interviewed if you knew it was only for a wait list spot? I know that since I really like the school, I would have interviewed no matter what and I'm very glad that I did. I don't view the wait list as a bad thing at all. You have to remain positive in this situation ... wait list is a hundred times better than a rejection! I was excited to find out I'm wait listed. Sure, I would have preferred an acceptance, but we've got to keep our fingers crossed.

I interviewed on the last day, March 22, with 14 other applicants. Oscar said they'll probably accept 1-3 people out of our group and the one from the week prior, so I'm pretty much hoping for a waitlist spot!

On another note...they gave us a sheet listing our interviewers' contact info. However, when I emailed mine to thank them, one emailed back to say she didn't interview me! And I tend to remember faces better than names, so I don't really remember who it really was...if it was an actual mistake. She suggested that I call the admissions office to find out who it was, but would that be bad or sound irresponsible?

On the other hand, it would be sad if it was really her and she forgot about me already. lol

This wait is just getting painful

Ah, I know! This wait is actually so much worse than I thought it would be. I'm the kind of person who likes to stay reaaallly busy, and I haven't been nearly busy enough, so I've been thinking about this wait list situation way way too much. I think it's time I find a new hobby. I know a few people on the regular wait list mentioned hearing back in May and they also mentioned being told their ranks then, and I know someone on the accepted wait list mentioned hearing news after April 7th, but I just want to clarify ... it seems like the people on the accepted wait list will hear back sooner? And is there also a ranking system for the accepted wait list? I'm hoping someone who is also on the accepted wait list has called the admissions office already and might know some answers. I know they're on spring break right now.

I emailed Oscar a while back and he said there is no movement on the waitlist (i'm assuming both accepted and regular) until May 15.

From what I experienced with the wait-list with Western last year, I know that the students on the accepted wait-list get acceptances as soon as enough students drop from the class to open up more seats. I'm almost positive that if seats open up before May, you will have your spot in the class. Once all of the accepted wait-listed students get their seat, the school moves onto the kids on the regular waitlist. I'm not quite sure how the school ranks the students. They might go by the date you interviewed but I'm sure everyone that is on the accepted wait-list will get a seat in the class really soon. Did you call to find out how many students were on the accepted wait-list?

30 people on the accepted waitlist...that's a pretty big number 🙁

I couldn't find anything about the accepted wait list on last year's thread ... did they have an accepted wait list last year? Do we know how many people ended up being accepted off it last year? Obviously it'd be easier for me to just call the admissions office and bother them with my barrage of questions. And maybe ask them to please let me in ... =)

Looking through some notes I made when I interviewed here. Nothing about the accepted waitlist, but last cycle ~40 students (having trouble reading my own hand-writing....can't tell if I wrote 40 or 46) in the class were taken off the waitlist. They went through 82 students on the waitlist to fill these spots.

:luck: Best of luck to everyone on the waitlist and to those attending here. Just wanted to give those of you sweating it out on the waitlist some hope.

I had a dream last night that I got in. Then I woke up and realized that decisions are being mailed out today. Argh!

I have those dreams all the time of getting back a score of 45/T on the MCAT.

Share the good news when you get your acceptance letter!

Just to let everyone on the waitlist know, I gave up my waitlist position. So someone people just moved up the ladder one spot

Hopefully someone can clear this up for me.

I interviewed back in February.

I remember at our interview day that Oscar said if you are placed on the waitlist it meant two things.

1) High waist list individuals would not be offered candidacy into Touro-NV Masters/PB program but would be offered candidacy for early accept 2015

2) Low and Middle waist list individuals would be offered candidacy into the Masters program.

Does anyone remember Oscar saying this on interview day?

I am really confused by the real difference between "High" wait list and this "Accepted" wait list

Are there any differences?

If so, is my deduction in that because I was offered early accept candidacy mean that I am on the high waitlist correct?

I just recently sent a letter of intent, a recent first author publication of mine, and a letter of rec from a professor of mine to the add comm so hopefully that will help in the process.

Someone please offer opinions, yall are scaring me with this "accepted" wait list lingo, because I thought that there were only three tiers to the wait list , and your standing was roughly discernible through investigation of your waitlist letter.

Thanx,

10guage.

The difference between the accepted wait list and the regular wait list is that the students that are on the accepted wait list actually got an acceptance into the school. Since the class is already full, they couldn't offer them a spot right away, so as soon as people drop their seats, the students on the accepted wait list are offered a seat first. After all of the students from the accepted wait list are offered a spot in the class, they will start accepting students from the regular wait list, which will be ranked on May 17.

thanks for the info guys and gals.

anyone hear anything similar in terms of the high, medium, low wait lists?

How did yall like the campus too?

I hear alot of people getting on about how it is all in one building, but I personally think that is awesome.

Dont want to be treking insane distances to your next class or have to walk a half a mile to my car after ive been studying till 3 am in the morning.

Also, the facilities are simply pristine.

Would be amazing.

God willing.
