Trying to decide between these 3 schools. I am in-state for Virginia.
COA for Tulane would be about $310,000.
COA for both EVMS and VTech Carilion would be about $215,000 for me.

I love the thought of living in NOLA, but nothing about Tulane's curriculum truly stands out to me. I like VTech's pbl approach, but am unsure about the new-ness of the school and wary about the lack of a match list.

Thoughts??

Definitely go to EVMS--

you have no idea how VT will turn out--- for all you know the school could go belly-up in 5 years.

It would be unwise to spend that much money for medical school unless you had to, or Tulane was significantly better than EVMS

As far as gap and MCAT go, Vtech has much better averages. They only take 40 some students and the students do research, making you stand out doing residency. If your considering the better match, EVMS is not really well heard of outside of the state. Tech might be new, but they are pretty selective in who they take in, therefore, I would assume, their students will match pretty well.

Due to the cost difference and being close to home (not sure if that matters to you), I would choose a VA school. Do you have any intentions or aspirations for research or joint degree programs?

I have heard great things about VTC even though it is obviously very new. I love the idea of a small class size. It's a lot about personal preferences really. EVMS doesn't have much of a research base but their students seem pretty happy.

Being from NC I've watched VTC be founded and start to grow. If I were making the decision of these 3 alone, I'd probably choose VTC, I dont think it's going anywhere and has a solid faculty base to create a sturdy foundation for the school.

Where you go to undergrad tends to give you a leg up on getting into that med school and med schools around it. Where you go to medical school helps you get residencies at that program and the programs around it. Where you do your residencies tend to give you a leg up with nearby fellowships. Where you do your fellowships is where you get contacts to find you jobs in the area. Where you do your job is very highly related to your quality of life.
