Active status pool just now
This is why I’m confused. The language in both emails implies very different thingsI am also confused… the email about active status pool says we would be considered for April round of acceptance but todays email only mentions waitlist/R
The active status notification was vague. Based on previous cycles on SDN, the wording from todays email is accurate. The active status becomes a ranked waitlist and VG4 will be voted on this waitlist and subsequently considered for April admissions. This is why I’m confused. Business casual, and the interview day is mostly indoors. Hope this helps!Hey guys, does anyone know what the attire is for the meet and greet event the night before the interview? I haven't been able to find any details on it.
Also, for those who have interviewed already, is any portion of the day outside? It looks like temps are going to be well below freezing when I'm there.
New to this thread here but how exactly does this work? Wouldn't it make sense for them to email you first instead of calling? Seems unusual for a school to offer an ad hoc interview like that and expect applicants to be available.I don't know abt when the next wave is, but what I do know is if they call, ANSWER!! Doesn't matter if you haven't had an interview yet, they might be calling to offer you one last minute if someone dropped out. It'll say Virginia Tech on the caller ID. Be sure your phone settings allow anyone to call you and not automatically send them to voicemail.
I imagine their mindset is if you want the spot, you'll figure out how to get thereNew to this thread here but how exactly does this work? To be honest, I haven't heard of a school calling randomly for an interview unless they emailed you prior and haven't heard back, but are trying to confirm...New to this thread here but how exactly does this work? Today perhaps! +1 OOS IIDoes anyone know when the next wave will come of II? It's been radio silent since submission for me🙁
when did you apply?OOS II. Does anybody know about rescheduling interview dates? I cannot go in person that weekend.
Funny story. I wrote my secondary and forgot to send submit in July. They sent a reminder in October and then I submitted 10/22.when did you apply?
I would email them and see if you can do it virtually. I believe they have one interview weekend a month.OOS II. Does anybody know about rescheduling interview dates? I cannot go in person that weekend.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is the "active status pool" I haven't gotten any emails but I also submitted my secondary kind of late. I interviewed back in august and attended the mingle session. Don’t bring your bf, this is a connection event for applicants.weirdly specific question but my boyfriend is driving me to my interview and we’re staying in the hotel of the mingle session Friday night am I allowed to bring him if he comes in business casual?? Or is it strictly for interviewees only
Given the nature of the event, being there myself, I would not bring him to the Friday reception. Everyone has to check in and they give out pre-made name tags, I just think it would be a little out of place!weirdly specific question but my boyfriend is driving me to my interview and we’re staying in the hotel of the mingle session Friday night am I allowed to bring him if he comes in business casual?? I recommend getting there when it starts, time passes very quickly. I did not see people leaving early other than staff/medical students. Take the opportunity to get to know the students and staff. I met a wonderful group of applicants who I had breakfast and lunch with the next day! It's natural to be nervous and anxious at first. Don't worry, I'm sure the bf can entertain himself for a couple of hours lolAhhh gotcha okay and does it go until 8 or is it like more come and go??
I don't know where you got that, but I wouldn't pay any attention to it. Every year changes with a different pool of applicants, and at a school like VT where there are only 50 students per class, I would say that the sample size is too low to give this any weight. The average metrics among matriculants from the largest ethnic/racial groups are as follows:
Total MCAT: 504.9
- American Indian or Alaska Native
Total GPA: 3.56
Total MCAT: 514.4
- Asian:
Total GPA: 3.80
Total MCAT: 505.7
- Black or African American:
Total GPA: 3.55
Total MCAT: 506.1
- Hispanic or Latino:
Total GPA: 3.62
Total MCAT: 511.2
- Multiple Race / Ethnicity
Total GPA: 3.71
Total: 508.9
- Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander
Total GPA: 3.69
Total MCAT: 512.8
- Non U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Total GPA: 3.78
Total MCAT: 513.4
- Unknown Race/Ethnicity
Total GPA: 3.71
Total MCAT: 512.6
- White:
Total GPA: 3.79
Is this true?
I think this post is for all matriculants to all schools. Not sure why this person posted it here though or how we're supposed to know it's true...I don't know where you got that, but I wouldn't pay any attention to it. Looking at the website, it looks like it's an overall composite number, and I believe the AAMC posted data on scores and GPA by race. To your point, no idea why it was posted here. It looks like they posted this on several different threads. Pretty oddI think this post is for all matriculants to all schools. 1. On average, how much time do you spend doing required classes/PBL sessions per day?Current M1 at VTC, feel free to ask or DM any questions about the curriculum, Roanoke, extracurriculars/opportunities, etc! Good luck to you all!
Thanks for offering to answer our questions! Do you have any general advice for the interview? (Obviously, understand can't discuss particulars due to NDA, but any general advice would be much appreciated!)Current M1 at VTC, feel free to ask or DM any questions about the curriculum, Roanoke, extracurriculars/opportunities, etc! 1. About 3-4 hours required attendance per day M-Th. Sounds long but is apparently much shorter than the old curriculum had, plus it goes by quick. PBL is 2 hours but we're usually done early. Fridays are only 3 hours and usually chill, the leader brings breakfast and we spend ~ 10 mins. finishing up the week's PBL case, ~ 30 mins. going over content, and then however long we want doing a review game we made (usually ~ 30-60 mins.). Friday PBL is followed by a "wrap-up" where a real patient with the case's disease / a similar disease comes and tells us their story and answers our questions. We're done by/before 12 every day besides Tuesdays, on Tuesdays class is flipped so it's 1-4ish (depends what we have that day).1. 2. Are you able to easily gain early exposure to shadowing/clinical experience?
3. How is your living situation/what do you do for fun?
My general advice for the interview is to be yourself! At this point you've proven you are academically fit to attend a medical school, and now they want to see what makes you different from all the other equally qualified applicants. I recommend going to the welcome event the night before if possible - it calmed my nerves and is a great way to meet students, faculty, and potential future classmates, and to get questions answered without the stress of interview day distracting you. Before each interview I attended (regardless of MMI or not), I brushed up on University of Washington's "ethics in medicine" page, and also searched online for some practice MMI scenarios. No way of knowing what you'll be asked, but I found it helpful to practice answering questions under time, how to organize my ideas, etc. Be fair, be open-minded, and be you. Thanks for offering to answer our questions! Also, how have you found navigating the process of finding a mentor and beginning your research project?

There are lots of opportunities to identify a research mentor, and we have all of first semester to find one. Mentors can be through VTC, Carilion, or FBRI. Many mentors have pre-existing projects to join or projects they'd like to start soon, so there are many options for us, as well as the option to create your own project from scratch if you've got ideas. Our research deans are very willing to meet with you if you have questions or struggle to find a PI's project you like, and we had a few times where PIs came to speak to the class, and research fairs where we could "window shop" PIs. For the most part, PIs understand we have school to worry about too, and will let you be as overly or minimally involved as you want (within reason).
I think on interview day they said around 30%Anyone know what the post 2 acceptance rate is?
+1OOS Pre II R. Damn I liked their secondary prompts lol
+1 IS Pre II R, the email stated they are done with interviews for this cycle
