UC Davis c/o 2020 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those that got interview invites, would ya'll mind posting your stats? I just want to see if I just wasn't competitive enough this time around.... :\

Any out of staters who got interviews - can you post your stats?
I am out of state, (Missouri home, University of Minnesota undergrad) and got an interview! 3.98 GPA, 90th percentile math GRE, 97th percentile english. Weak point was shadowing (around 220 hours veterinary, but also worked with research animals for a year studying pancreatic cancer, so that may have helped).

Now I know why I didn't get an interview!! Those are some killer stats!! Congrats on the invite!!
(BTW, Davis doesn't weigh in # of vet hours into their calculations, as long as you have the required minimum of 180 hours, then you're golden!)

Thanks! I knew they had a minimum, but I figured it was like many other schools' minimums, where you would need to be the best candidate all time in the other categories to get in with only the minimum.

Yup, I know what you mean. Davis was the only school that I researched that doesn't really penalize you for having the min. number of hours. I think most other schools would like to see more. I guess it's about applying smart and playing up your strengths! Although I think with your GPA/GRE scores, you will definitely be competitive regardless!!

Just got an interview. Really shocked. This is my third time applying, so don't give up if you didn't get one! Davis is my instate school, and I'm so excited to meet everyone!

As for stats for those asking:
GPA
Cumulative 3.46
Last 45 3.80
Overall Science 3.39
GRE
156 Quantitative
166 Verbal
4.0 writing
Experience
2 years full time vet teching in small animal pratice
500 hours wildlife volunteer/interning
2 years research in a biomedical lab
...that's all I can remember off the top of my head! Eek! So excited!

Don't give up yet to everyone who didn't receive an interview! They might be sending them out in waves!! No interview doesn't automatically mean rejection!

my gpa is more along the average i think. cumulative 3.73, last 45 3.68, overall science 3.64. gre 90th percentile in all parts. 1060 veterinary hours

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought they send out interview invites all at once and they just wait to see if anyone declines the interview before giving a few spots (or maybe none >.>) to the next waitlist people.

No idea, but just because someone didn't get an interview now doesn't mean they won't get one period!

So I guess people don't have to give up hope completely since they might be wait-listed though I wonder how much of the people on the wait-list ends up getting an interview :\

I would assume most people will accept their invitations :\ I've never heard of people getting off the wait list for interviews for Davis, though I'm sure it has happened. I just wished they didn't have a specific date that people will be denied admission. What if someone found out they can't make their interview after Nov. 20th? I guess they can still contact people who have been denied...?

Are you in state? I know they interview the top ~30% or so from in state but only top 10-15 from OOS.

Other people that didn't get an interview, did your portal update to say application complete 11/13?

Good luck to everyone that got interviews! I have a 3.93 overall, 4.0 science, 168 and 163 GRE scores instate and didn't get one. Does anyone know what else they judge on that may be my downfall?

Man, I'm really surprised! Mine was complete 10/9. Supposedly, they only judge on quant GRE, GPA, and PPI. did your application say complete? I would follow up with that. Did you have the min. # of hours?

Yeah I really thought I had a good chance of an interview. My application updated to say complete 11/13, and I did have about 350 vet hours, so not a ton, but I think above the minimum. I really want to email them, but I'm not sure if that would be frowned upon/rude.

Oh wow, I'm really surprised you didn't get an invite. I'm really sorry that you didn't 🙁 Was one of your PPI evaluations from a vet? I know they check to make sure of that.

Maybe it was something about your PPI score.

Also, you can ask for a file review from any school that doesn't accept you and ask what you need to work on. Some schools will do it, some won't.

I would honestly send them an email next week and not wait for the application review. Unless you had absolute crap for PPI, I don't see how you didn't get an interview as an IS student. Sounds like maybe a mistake was made. At least based on what they claim their application criteria are.

Honestly, unless your PPI was terrible (did the evaluators -specifically any DVMs- know you well if you only had 350 hrs vet experience?), your app incomplete or you miscalculated your science/last 45 GPA, I have no idea why you didn't get an interview as an IS applicant. Hours don't matter as long as they're >180. Another possibility is Davis actually does look at other factors, but I doubt they'd lie about that.

Last 45 units GPA, science GPA, quant GRE and PPIs...

I believe Davis evaluates only those factors, and in that specific order.

Thanks everyone! Yeah I did work with a vet who I had known for about 5 years previously, and she was the one who did my PPI, so I did have a PPI from a vet, and the other two were my advisor and research PI, so hopefully they weren't terrible. I plan on e-mailing them and politely asking what might have gone wrong... I figure it's not like anything worse can happen!

It definitely can't hurt to contact them; I'd do it sooner rather than later. I do know Davis strongly prefers two DVMs do your PPIs, but they say they only actually require one DVM. Maybe that has something to do with it? I'd be a little surprised if that were the case, though.

Did you apply to the VSTP program? If so, you will hear early next week.

I applied to VSTP, and I was so sad when I realized that I did not get an interview on Friday 🤔. Are all VSTP applicants supposed to hear next week :nailbiting:? Thank you for your post

Yes, VSTP applicants will hear next week.

Hey guys! I got an interview. I'm in-state with a lower GPA than seems to be popping up.
Overall - 3.39
Science - 3.23
Last 45 - 3.65
My GRE was 163 (86%)
Don't lose hope. There's still the rest of the week. Best of luck to everyone.

Question: Anyone on here had an interview before? What did you wear? I'm debating between a skirt and a pants suite. A vet I work with warned me a pants suite might be held against me. Any thoughts?

I've heard he opposite! I don't think it matters either way, but I know TX A&M says that women should not wear a skirt because it's "unprofessional". I don't agree, but that's what they say! I wore a pants suit at my interview at a different school.

I am IS, my stats are Cumulative GPA 3.75, Last 45 3.70, Science 3.69. GRE V164 Q157, A4.5

I had this same question. I feel like it's so tedious.

I'm currently a UC Davis undergraduate. I would say weather-wise I would go with a pantsuit. Its been super windy and a little chilly these days. Although.... I am from California so my definition of cold may be way off haha

And related to interviews, I just bought my plane tickets and hotel reservations for another interview in Kansas and my wallet is now crying. So if anyone needs a couch to crash on to save costs (I might have an extra bed as well), lemme know! I live as close as possible to the vet school as anyone in Davis can live(closest housing). Literally a 10 minute walk down the street. And hotels are even farther.

Ex-lurker here... has anyone else gotten an invite past 11/13?
My portal status also updated to "application complete, 11/13", but no note about the interview. 🙁

I haven't received anything. I suppose we will see what happens this week.

Also, I think your username and avatar are fantastic. 😀 Nice to meet ya!

As many a vet school applicant has lamented: I wish they would at least free me from my F5 frenzy by telling me whether I'm waitlisted or rejected so that I can continue with other life activities...

And thanks! You as well. I went through a cephalopod phase not long ago 🙂

Don't know if this helps but i can see that there are 20 interview slots left. 8 of which are for vstp applicants (not really too sure how that works though) but this is what it says in the portal: "VSTP applicants that have been offered a VSTP interview MUST select the 8:00 AM Session on either December 10 or 11 for their MMI." and there are only 8 of those left. good luck guys! sorry that you guys have to go through so much more

Does this mean that VSTP interviews have already gone out?

I just got an interview invite for the VSTP today around 11AM PST.

I'm thinking that the 20 spots are for people who were being considered for VSTP, and then after that was decided then invites were sent out to both VSTP and normal applicants who didn't get a VSTP invite? Or maybe there was another round of regular interview invites, not sure.

If anyone is still interested, my stats were:
Science GPA - 3.75
Last 45- 3.90
Quant. GRE- 163 (86%)

Congrats! I just got my official rejection letter. For those OOS students who may be wondering why they didn't get an interview, here are the OOS stats:
Non-Residents
Average Science GPA: 3.94
Average Last 45 Sem. Units GPA: 3.96
Average Quantitative GRE Score: 88%
Average PPI Score: 4.4

And here I was thinking I was a semi-competitive candidate with a 3.88. CONGRATS TO ALL WHO GOT INTERVIEWS!!! You guys will rock it! 🙂

Congrats to everyone that got interviews!! Good luck at your interview!
I just got my official rejection letter. It was expected since my GPA sucks.
