I'm sorry to hear that Bell....but throughout this entire process, I strongly believe that what was never meant to be will not be. Everything happens for the best and although right now, we might not believe that to be true, months, years or decades later, I'm sure that most of us would look back and agree that all happens for the BEST. So keep your chin up! 🙂

I hope that a medical school of your choice will be lucky enough to have you as part of their medical institution. Good Luck!!

aaaahhh...i can always count on my fellow SDNers to make me feel better. Thanks Luwi!
Good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear!

Anybody knows anything about the second look weekend? Or do they have one?

A Current MS1 told me that they do have one. I'm gonna drop by the admission office sometime this week to inquire about it.

I am so not going to answer that question. UCLA (I mean Geffin) is a great school and in a lot of ways we are trying to be like them. But we have a lot of aspects which are a lot better than UCLA, for which a lot of applicants would make us a better choice than UCLA.

Keck rocks--and even though i'm bummed about ucla (for financial reasons)--I've always loved the trojan attitude. but true, no war...both are great schools.

I got a letter today, it's from Vice Chancellor Dr. Levey.

So the Second Look WSeekend is on Saturday, April 17. From the schedule, it seems like it's only a one day event. I didn't get any other information, but I'm sure for people who live far away from L.A., there will probably be information on air travel as well.

i know that you meet with students and faculty and they tell you about the curriculum, clinical years, electives, etc. and you sit down and discuss schedules. at least thats one thing that happens.

haha, i just realized that that might have been obvious or logical for a second look day to most people. anyway, hope it helps.

Oh yea, the letter has those information too. And people can sign up for a campus tour (I probably won't do that...I mean I've been here for 5 years...nothing new to see campus I bet), and a night out with current med students (1st and 2nd years??)

i still havent gotten my fin aid packet. did you calbe or legend? how long did it take?

how are the step 1 board avgs at ucla? well, there is a new curric and such. but are the board avg high? as high or higher than other cali schools, like usc?

I'm not eligible for financial aid (International studnet). I don't think they have any statistics on board scores, because they just started the new curriculum this year.

Hi Guys,

I have not rec'd anything yet. Thanks for the info.

3/4 Today I just get my letter and info for the second look. Currently, the new kick ass hospital is ranked No 3 nationwide(US News). However in Dr. Levey's letter, he said it is No. 5. Does Dr. Levey too busy to notice that the ranking has been moving up ?

Hey guys! Just playing the post-interview waiting game with y'all. Does anyone know what date(s) UCLA might send out FD letters this month?

Word. Count me in 🙂 I bet they send them out at then end of next week. I guess we just have to wait and see.

They will(I guess) send out on or before 3/15(it does not mean you will receive the letter on that day due to the mail delay etc etc). Good luck for those still waiting.:horns:

just called the director today. she said my packet/invitation to the second look should come shortly. she told me its on april 17th. what else is in the packet? i cant wait to get it. esp since its from dr. levey...hes the man! she also said that fin aid info will come much later.

so far, who is part of our class? i remember me, calbe, legend, and exmike. who else?

supereagles is contemplating either UCLA or Columbia 😉

I had a question about scheduling UCLA interviews. Just yesterday I read on the status page that I had an interview requested. (I'm sure I'm just interviewing for a waitlist spot at this point but it still made me really happy 🙂 ) So I think that UCLA sends out a letter asking for interview dates (which I haven't gotten yet), which you then mail back, and then you get a letter confirming the date...

But I figure it's already getting really late in the proces, and I probably won't get a date till April. So anyone think it would be helpful to call the admission office and ask if there have been any cancellations in March that I could be fit into? But then I don't have any special reasons for requesting an earlier date, like living on the east coast or anything, so maybe I shouldn't try.

Definitely do try to call...cause if you go through the usual scheduling procedure, you may get a spot in April.

Is everyone ready for the bunch of final decision letters that get sent out around March 15? I did a search on last year's UCLA thread and it seems like pretty much everyone that interviewed by mid/late February was sent a decision letter around March 15. It's kind of good to be able to know where we stand in a few weeks but it's also a bit unnerving. Whatever happens, best of luck to everyone who's waiting.

Alex

Thanks CalBeE; I'll call Monday morning then. 🙂

yeah twizzlers, you should def call them. i think your reason can even simply be because you are very interested in ucla!

good luck.

In that search that you did, were most people waitlisted or were there some acceptances? I'm hoping there were acceptances in that batch!!!

Thanks!

It seemed like there was a mixture of acceptances, waitlists, and holds (rejections.) Of course, it's hard to say exactly what the ratio was since I'm sure people are much more inclined to post if they got in as opposed to waitlisted/rejected. Also, if our status page changes around 3/15 and indicates a final decision letter's been sent, it seems like it can take upwards of 10 days before the letter reaches you. Talk about an annoying wait.

Alex

calbe, what exactly was in the follow up package you got with the letter from dean levey?

A one-page letter about how great UCLA is, a reply form for Second look weekend, a schedule for the second look day, and a sheet about the new curriculum.

Add Duke and their generous financial aid package and my decision becomes a lot tougher. Anyone UCLA rules and it would be nice to have the great CalBeE in my class👍

Hey I thought that Duke doesn't accept international students?
Well unless you're Canadian, and they have a different policy for Canadians??
According to U.S. News, Duke has 0.0% of international students...

OR you're actually a green card holder, not on F-1 student visa like me?

I think last year 4 international students matriculated and the year before that two. I guess I am not the only one that stays up this late

wow...oh well too late to apply there anyway. If I were you, I'll choose Columbia though 😉

its just prime time for me.

anyone know about scholarships for ucla?? can i apply for one or are they just for superstars who got into top 5-10 schools and have second thoughts about going to ucla?

So I called UCLA this morning about my interview, and while the lady did confirm that I had one, she said to wait until I got the letter to schedule the interview. I asked her about any cancellations, but apperantly they're booked through March... I mentioned that I was worried about interviewing as late as April and that it might be a disadvantage, but she said it wouldn't be since they're interviewing late... I am afraid that it will be a big disadvantage but I guess there's nothing I can do about it now, so I'll just have to hope for the best.

So just as an FYI to those who get UCLA invites this late, they aren't letting you schedule them early over the phone.

Wow, that hit a sore nerve. Y'all know UCLA rules and who wouldn't want to keep the bruin tradition alive😀

i called today bout the scholarships. the lady said that i had to apply for fin aid first then i can apply for need based scholarships. you cant apply for merit based scholarships...there is a fin aid committee that decides about those. and as far as oustide scholarships, they are working on a list of sources...she said check online for the update.

hope that helps a bit in case you were wondering also.

by the way, what is a chancellor (like dr. levey) of medical sciences?? as far as i know, not many other schools have chancellors...the top guys are the president and dean and maybe some senior associate deans.

i got a final letter sent and i interviewed in Jan 15.

Again, just to remind all of you, letters of acceptance, waitlist, rejection ALL come in thin envelope (All one-page letters).

So don't toss it into the trash without opening it 😉

me three😱

so the ultimate waiting begins....

When do you guys think they'll come--around Monday?

It may take up to (hopefully shorter) 5 - 8 L O N G D A Y s before you get it. They will send out more acceptances this time because of the 3/15 guideline from AMCAS. Good Luck to you all. :horns: :horns:

good luck to you all!!!

Me 6. Interviewed mid Feb. That's was actually a quick turnaround for them. I hope it's a good thing and not a bad thing. There can only be 2 things they thought of me:

1. He's the man!! Let this fool in before he goes somewhere else.

2. This guy is ridiculous! Reject him right away. I can't stand the thought of him remaining in the applicant pile.

Good luck everyone.

hey guys,

i just sent a letter of intent that arrived today there, the 10th, and then i looked at my webpage and it said final decision letter sent,

so am i screwed???! ugg

are you guys going to call and find out what the letter is, rejction, acceptance or wait llist?, will they give us the info?

they wont tell you over the phone. i guess you can try anyhow...you never know and it wont hurt anymore.

your letter would help if you got waitlisted, GD forbid.

best wishes.
