Oooooo nice cuddy!

FrontalRelease, I think they are doing it this way in an attempt to keep more of the really high profile applicants from committing to other schools they hear back from earlier simply because they don't feel like waiting in limbo to make decisions. Or maybe they are just having some pity on us as our IS school realizing that if they wait until mid march to send them out a large part of us will have to put deposits down at other places. Whether it be a thousand for DO schools or a couple hundred as a deposit for a place to live. Who knows there are definitely some benifits and drawbacks to both processes...

Yes, thanks for the info. It makes me feel better! Congratulations to those who got in, and for the rest of us...hopefully we can find a way to relax until next month.

Maybe someone will be able to make me feel better...I interviewed early October and was complete by Oct. 20 so if everyone that was complete early-on and has not heard anything yet...will they continue to look at your file and reconsider you for every release? OR..do they look at it once and then either accept, reject, or put on waitling list?

Yeah, that makes a good deal of sense. I guess the A-type in me just wishes the process were a little more transparent, but I'm probably preaching to the choir!

Thanks for everyone providing all the info, and best of luck to all with the rest of the process.

Happy holidays too 🙂

So how many of you have been accepted to other schools already? I'm just trying to lift spirits by being positive.

Thanks for the welcome.

Is it just me, or would it be better to have all the acceptances/waitlist positions released on a single day, rather than this 10 at a time, rolling-admissions torture?

I'm sure it makes it easier logistically for the admissions committee, but it makes the experience a bit nerve racking for everyone else.

Just my 2 cents.

From a distance, I agree the non-rolling admissions process seemed a little outdated. But now that I'm actually going through it, the 10-or-so-at-a-time-acceptance rollout process is a little bit like a slow torture, heh... Here's to January, everyone!

They must have interviewed well over half the applicants by now, but from what I can gather they've only accepted around 30. They must reconsider applicants or they'll never fill the class at this rate. I think the waitlist doesn't come out til March though.

I was complete by the end of Sept. I'm pretty sure they continue to review each file over and over throughout the season. That's what I'm hoping for, but then again, its admissions.. and I have know idea what is going on during their meetings.

I have not heard anything today as well. Congratulations to those who did and happy holidays to all! To all those anxious people like me out there- hang in there. We deserve it and hopefully we will get in one of these days🙂

I was, but not to a US school. I was accepted to Ross, which is great, but obviously I want to go to a US school, and U of A is my top choice. I am in limbo and haven't heard anything yet from the US schools and it's driving me craaaaazy. Has anyone sent in update letters or lettes of intent to U of A? I'm wondering if I should do that, but I don't want to seem like a pest.

When I spoke to admissisons a few months back they said they will keep reviewing all applicants during each review cycle. I hope that it is true. I was complete in September as well.

I was accepted to Midwestern in Glendale and will be attending there if UA does not work out. Anybody else going to AZCOM if UA fails? I really wanted to stay in AZ, but especially UA..love the campus and the low tuition...

Well time to move on with my day. Congratulations to those who received acceptances and Merry Christmas to everyone!

They supposedly sent out 20% of 110 so ~22 if my info was correct...

you didnt get this info from calling today. the next person who calls should get an approx number accepter from both phx an tuc

I got into AZCOM and CCOM and I figured that if I was going to pay OOS tuition prices then I wanted a change of scenery so I decided on CCOM. That being said there is no way I could pass up on U of A.

True, it wasn't correct for this week but it was spot on for the first round of acceptances so I was kind of assuming that the proportion of people accepted would remain the same but the date was just off somehow.... Regardless if its not till the 3rd week of January then we have plenty of time to enjoy the holidays before getting anxious again😀

I got accepted to NYMC last month, but UA is my top choice as well. So, although I thought the stress levels would fall after my first acceptance, it did not happen at all.

I have been very lucky with the UofA admissions and have now been accepted to both schools. Since you are only allowed to hold both acceptances for 2 weeks, I was wondering if anyone (current med students or anyone) had advice on how to make that decision. Thanks!

Good luck to everyone that hasn't heard back yet!

Congrats! What a perfect Xmas gift! When did you interview and what were your stats like, if you don't mind me asking..

Go to Phoenix, don't take my spot in Tucson please 🙂

New member here..Cuddy, I think I'm in the same boat as you. Been accepted at AZCOM and SOMA so far and waiting for U of A. I cancelled my other DO school interviews and still waiting on some other private schools. I guess I can focus on my P.F. Chang's training until the next round of acceptances...Agh. I've seen some friends through this process and two got into Southwestern at the very last minute-July and August. Looking way ahead, do we know when the latest U of A takes people off the waitlist? Do people find out if they are in the day before classes?

No early Christmas present in my inbox for me either 🙁...I hope I make it to February before I have a massive panic attack.

At least we have the holidays to distract us for a while. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

I think they went to 64 off the wait list last year. So there is a lot of time (and spaces) to go. Besides, it takes awhile to get the elaphants in a line and the dancing girls and jugglers and acrobats all co-ordinated for when they come to your front doot with the acceptance letter!

I've been following this thread for awhile and got good news today- accepted at Tucson!! I graduated today, so just got the news- Great day all around! What a relief!

I was accepted at Midwestern, Glendale and Penn State, but will be going to U of A, for about $100,000 reasons.

My stats- 30Q, 3.9 GPA, Good ECs and LORs

Good luck everyone and hang in there. Soon we'll be studying together in the library and laughing about all this.

Did you decide if you are going to pick AZCOM over SOMA? I cancelled my interview at SOMA and other schools once I found out about AZCOM; it was my first choice D.O. school. Are you from UA? I'm hoping to meet some people ahead of time who will be starting school with me in Fall whereever I am!

I'm pretty sure I will be attending SOMA if I don't get into any MD school. I'm still scheduled to interview at AZCOM in Jan. And I'm from Tucson as well 🙂

Are you going to do on-campus housing?
My companion of choice is a darling tuxedo cat I just adopted, so I think campus housing is a no. I figure I'll just live in an apartment in the vicinity of the school, but I don't want to really think about moving until more UA acceptances go out...So we know for sure there's a "lump acceptance" going out the third week of January? Will all acceptance rounds be in chunks from here on out? Will the acceptances go out once a month or every 2 weeks? This trickle-down-acceptance-OMG-I'm-crapping-my-pants every-2-weeks thing is not working for me..

If you are lucky enough to have the choice of two campuses that is a big decision to make. Its hard for any current student to give a definite answer because of course we are biased to our own school.

Tucson is awesome because the class is bigger and "typically" younger so its a much more social environment. Our library is better, we are connected to the hospital and everything is just more convenient. Phoenix does have the scholarly project which supposedly gives you an edge in residency applications but for someone like me who hates research, that wasn't too tempting of an option for me. I also heard you are able to develop a much closer relationship with faculty when it comes to LOR time which is a plus. Its just a preference for the city too, I hate Phoenix its hotter and there are way too many people. Tucson is surrounded by mountains and beautiful sunsets...I love it!

Either way you can't go wrong its just a personal preference. Both schools are great and Im sure we are learning the same things. Tucson is better though 😛

Tucson is more clinical based, whereas Phoenix is more research based. Which goes hand in hand with the scholarly project. I know Phoenix does seem showy and nice but its a lot nicer when the hospital is a few steps away. Also our gross lab is right on campus too. I am very happy to have chosen Tucson and for some of the same reasons as Mandertwin. 110 students has lots of variety and chances for interaction. Also more CUP programs and clubs are already running. Overall it really comes down to what do you like better the city of Tucson or Phoenix. I also feel very close to the faculty in Tucson as well. decide

Just one piece of advice from faculty here is. All med schools teach roughly the same information and prepare you just as well for the boards. Now obiviously MD vs DO is hard to decide. But in terms of different schools just go with what school you feel welcome in. Are you ok with studying till late in the study rooms or library? Do they have places for lunch? What do you think of the city? Do you have to drive or can you live by and walk? What living is near by? Do you want to walk? Is it safe to be out at night on campus? Dont forget those types of questions, as most schools otherwise are the same. Just spreading a different light on things

PS rent, traffic, and overall cost of living is cheaper in Tucson, along with being at the UofA and not down town Phoenix, just one game or even one event downtown and you in traffic forever just to get to school. Ouch

While research isn't for everyone...the opinions for your scholarly project in PHX aren't just bench science based...so you would also have a chance to try a different type of research and there are plenty of people at the campus to help you make that decision....they also allow you to have a mentor from outside of the phx campus.

For me the library didn't really matter because I don't study in libraries plus there is an ASU library nearby that you can use. Also don't forget that some of the Tucson class will still go to PHX for 3rd and 4th year.

Also take into consideration the size difference of the classes...does that matter to you...which do you prefer? Also the curriculum order is set-up alittle different look at them and see if there is one you like better than the other. Also if I remember correctly the clinical experience the first two years is set-up differently....Last year they said at phx you would be paired with a community physician and be "given" some patients and throughout the first two years you would "take over" some of their care.

Choosing between the two was a debacle for me because I like Tucson as a city better but the phx campus as a school better....so I chose neither and am at a school somewhere else.

Did everyone get a holiday card from UA Phoenix that besides wishing you a happy holiday it also said you were "very competitive"? I was wondering if they sent these to every single person they interviewed or just those they were seriously considering? Haha I am just looking for some hope!

Oh it was an actual xmas card in the mail..lol I wish it was as serious as an email!

I got an Xmas card in the mail also saying the same thing. Wondering if everyone else also recieved one?

I didn't get a card, but then again I haven't checked my mail yet... =). Congrats guys, that sounds like a positive mark in your favor!

Time to go check mail.....🙂

I definitely did NOT get a card. Nor any word. Already got into Hopkins but considering u of a since I would like to stay in az. but have 36 mcat + 3.77 Berkeley gpa, and clinical ec's...was hopeful...Full disclosure--I am in a wheelchair so maybe they dont like that...hopkins has more resources available to them so I would understand if az rejected me--still would be super bummed about it. I would like the choice, at least for quality of life issues over the next 4 years.

quality of life as far as ease of transition and got a great community vibe from both phoenix and tucson.

Nice job on the stat dropping

It didn't sound to me like those stats were dropped to brag. I think walderness was just trying to point out that he/she is a well qualified applicant who was accepted to some high ranking schools but feels UA may have withheld an acceptance due to a disability.

Congrats Cuddy! I didn't receive an Xmas card either. Hopefully this leads to some good news for you in a few weeks!👍

So any word on when the next set of acceptances will be going out? And how many people they will include?

I got the x-mas card. I would be surprised if everyone got one only because the name and address were nicely handwritten on the envelope. Seems like it would be a lot of work to do that for all the applicants.

I like that thought Kingfish🙂

When I called last time, they said the 3rd week of January and that the number of acceptance releases in Jan. and Feb. would be larger than the number in December. They had told me slightly off information for the Dec. releases so I wouldn't be surprised if they change it up again..Maybe someone can call again sometime soon?

Heard from Phoenix yesterday (jan 5th). Don't know how many emails they sent out though. I'm going to tell them no (I want to stay in Tucson), so that spot's going back up for grabs. Maybe I should auction it off to help pay for tuition....😀😀

congrats! just out of curiosity, did you get the Christmas card as well?

thanks🙂! i did in fact get a xmas card
Wow..so did anyone else hear back from PHX or Tucson? I really hope it was just PHX because I was hoping a lot of us would have heard something since it is supposed to be a bigger number in Jan..I'll call them tomorrow for sure..Merry Joulton did you get a xmas card too?
