You must feel proud to get in with those odds. Congrats.

Thanks. Although the "odds" just make me feel that much worse about NOT getting into UA again as a reapplicant given I already had a 1/4 chance of getting into either campus... oh well.

But after last year, I am definitely grateful I have somewhere to go now.

Personally, I applied to 12 schools - been rejected by 4, withdrew from 3 (after receiving their secondaries), and have interviewed only here and will in New York in April. I was born and raised in Phoenix and figure I have my whole life to live somewhere else if I want. But with the economy and my less than perfect application, I figured UA was my best chance. And hopefully I'll be on the waitlist, but I'm not holding my breath for an acceptance so I'm getting ready to reapply next year. 🙁

I applied to 18 schools. withdrew from 3, rejected by 8. I "technically" have 5 schools out there (silent rejections), and 1 more interview in April in NY also!

Good luck to you lovemed04, maybe you will get into the same school I do, and we can say adios Arizona and hello to high tuition!

Where in NY are both of you interviewing?!?! I interviewed at NYMC in October and was accepted the day before Thanksgiving.. I had something to be thankful for! If it is the same school, I think you will love it. The people are nice, it's definitely different than AZ but it's not that bad so be thankful you have an interview! Maybe all 3 of us will be moving to NY!

Wait until you find out what the cost of living is there... (I grew up about 10 miles from NYMC). It's astronomical. Lots of snow too but the summers are beautiful. The good part is that there is always something to do since New York City is not too far away. White Plains (Valhalla is an outlet of it pretty much) is always pretty bustling too. The school has a very impressive match list! Congratulations though!

I'm already thinking about how to improve my application for the next round. I've moved on. Next year! WOOT!

NYMC too... I like the whole idea of it... I had fun looking at the surrounding areas. Yeah, i'm sure it will cost a **** load there (and my luck at scholarships are dismal), but the clincal opportunites and match list is awesome.

Yup I have an interview at NYMC in April! Pretty late in the game, so I was initially very worried about that but I heard that some people have gotten immediate acceptances after late interviews at that school. I'm super stoked about the interview but I obviously would jump for joy for an acceptance off the WL at UA!! Good luck to all of us!

Same here.... it would be best to be in state, but i guess this game isn't over yet. It's not over till orientation! I know someone who got the word from UofA late summer (actually basically one of the last on the wl)... Does anyone know if when the waitlist/rejections is released, if they will immediately tell you your number?

All I've heard is they will be released before mid March. Tucson will tell you your number at the time of release. However, phx will not give out the numbers for whatever reason.

I personally find that knowing your "number" is sort of a tacky decision by the school-- I know that by being a pre-med, inherently we can't have too much pride, but to know that you're ranked 80, and then FINALLY they let you in (reluctantly it would seem), would be a tough pill to swallow.

Really? I'd much rather know my number and thus know if I have a chance of getting off the waitlist rather than having the anxiety continue all summer long. Also they will tell you what number they are at so you know how much its moving along. I think as long as we don't take it personally the number ranking is much better since it gives us SOME degree of knowledge as to what is going on.

Rejection is a much larger pill, in my opinion.

I completely agree. I think the ranking of the WL gives applicants a sense of their chances rather than praying to the adcom gods for a spot off the WL. That being said, I just talked to Phoenix and the lady said they def have not filled all their spots and have not even made a WL yet. Another round of acceptances will be going out within the next few weeks, and all applicants will know their status by the middle of March (accepted, WL, or rejection).

Meaning, Phoenix is looking even more attractive to me by the second. Does anyone know how to structure a great letter of intent? I'm not sure what to include in it... dear adcom? to whom it may concern? And what do you say - I am very interested in your campus? I guess I'm just confused... can I get your advice

O'Really? WTF? Arrrggghhhhhh!!!! There's hope, I guess.

Be very careful with your LOI. If you screw it up, it could give reason for them to discard your file. Have others look at it.

Dear AdCom,

I loved visiting your campus and think that I have a lot to offer to the school and its student body. Attending __name of SoM here____ has been a dream of mine since ____. Although I have other options, __name of SoM here___ is my one and only. I look forward to hearing from you with great eagerness and anticipation.

Sincerely,

lol...definitely sign off with that name; it'll show a uniqueness the schools are really looking for

I'm curious about the use of the word def here. Did they say it emphatically, as if they had a sizeable number of seats yet to be offered?

The word "def" was my personal injection, but she did specifically say that there would be another waive going out before the WL and rejections. I asked how many seats were left and she said she wasn't sure. But that is still good news for us who want to go to Phoenix!

And she said the next waive would go out before mid march, since mid march is when WL/ rejections go out (she said that by mid march every applicant would know their status)

Got it. I still tend to think they wouldnt have left a small amount of seats (like 3 or 4) or they would have just lumped it in with the wave last week. I think there's more, probably around 10 or 12? This does give us hope, which can be either good or bad, depending on which part of Shawshank Redemption you're watching.

Does anyone think it is so funny how Phx always is so vague. How many seats...oh I don't know. What number on the waitlist....oh you will not know. When will the next round of acceptances go out....we are not sure. 😛

Yeah totally... I wish there was a weblink that had a countdown of the seats remaining. I bet they would receive a lot less calls to the office.

Last week I got accepted at another school in Michigan. I almost didn't interview there, but after visiting the campus and meeting the people, they are my top choice. It is such a good feeling to finally be accepted somewhere, and have the pressure off.

Good luck to all of you that are still waiting. This is my 4th time applying, and in a way it's a good thing, because I found my perfect school.

I'm still waiting to see if I get in here, or waitlisted, but mostly so I can say, "No thanks!"

Congratulations!!!! I know someone at MSU CHM who wound up in the most competitive specialty. As for you guys going to NYCM - why does it interview so late and UA stops Jan 15th? I looked at the match list...that school is awesome.

Congrats!

For the sake of all the waiting applicants, I hope you don't wait until May 15th to say, "Thank you very much, but since you've spurned my entreaties too many times, you can kiss off. After having been rejected by you, like an unrequited love, I now have the perverse pleasure of slapping away your hand as it reaches too late for mine. My heart had long turned cold and has found another. But then again, perhaps for the fourth time you will be telling me 'No Thanks!' first, denying me the chance at my gratification. In which case, it will be obvious that you don't deserve me!"

Thank you for making me laugh! I wrote this post in the middle of my 12 hour night shift, and couldn't eloquently express my feelings... thanks for doing it for me! May I copy and paste your work into my email message? Lol.

I think all posts become public domain. But sure, go ahead and take it, as long as you promise that if you get accepted, don't linger when you tell them they're not up to your standards. Do it right away. There are jittery people here who will needlessly track the waitlist numbers like a countdown to Armageddon.

And now for some constructive criticism! There are lots of strangers and even friends and g/b-friends who might not always say if someone has a bit of food unknowingly stuck on their face, but I don't mind speaking out loud to someone I don't know. I notice on your facebook profile that you already put the "Dr." title on your name. and that you already declare yourself an MS1 and "Medical Student". I know you're happy and all, but come on. Didn't the rejections teach any humility or squash out any false sense of entitlement? No one's a doctor until they earn their M.D. or O.D. at the end of four grueling years. You're just asking for eye-rolling or worse in calling yourself one now, even if it's in jest, that's not so apparent. Also, MS1's are currently more than halfway through their first year in med school. Are you? Someone who's smart enough to get into med school shouldn't have to be told these things.🙂 Or it just goes to show the marvelous rewards one can reap through sheer persistence and effort.

Congrats again and best of luck in your new life and studies.

For those of you who are thinking about supplying the AdCom with letters of intent or interest, I'd say that it can't hurt. It shows initiative and that you have a strong desire to attend that school. I sent a letter of interest to Tucson and a letter of intent to Phoenix. Not sure if this had much to do with my acceptances, but obviously it won't count against you.

If you are going to write one, be sure to include why you think you are a good fit for that school, what you have to offer them that others don't. Talk about specific aspects of their program or specific members of their faculty that you admire. Tell them about your professional goals and how those coincide with the school and its programs. You might also include an update on your current activities, new volunteer project, recent grades, etc. Have someone proof read it and make sure you don't come off as a brown-noser or pompous jackass.

Who knows, if you write a good enough letter you could end up way higher on the WL than you thought.

Best of luck.

I'm sure it helped you. The 37 MCAT, 4.00/3.94 GPA, and a well balanced EC makes you way competitive out of state. I'd normally assume you'd be going out of state too, so UofA is happy to have you want to stay.

I gotta apologize for the harshness of my previous post and for deviating from the thread topic. It may not seem so, but it was honestly motivated out of reciprocity. I would expect my friends to call me out on something if I needed it and greatly appreciate attempts at being saved from (further) embarrassment. Otherwise, I'd go about the world oblivious and unable to correct my own missteps because I don't see them.

Here, it was a bit tactless on my part. But then, what else could you expect from someone with my username.

haha I bet it does feel good!! I hope I'm able to have that sense of relief this cycle too... but most applicants who are accepted called themselves M0. I think that is what biteme was referring to. Just thought I would clear that up!

This is weird....I got an acceptance to Tucson this morning at 0844 AM??? I'm gonna call the office to make sure somebody isn't tricking me.

Just called and left them a message.....did anybody else get in?? This is the email I got:

I'm a little confused by this part of it...I thought you had two weeks after your second acceptance...

Congratulations though!

Oh my goodness that is so cool. I remember you said you were accepted to Phx already. Which one are you going to choose? It gives us all hope!

So I just spoke with Ann (sp?) and she said the committee met last night and came up with some alternates but they also had a few openings and decided to go ahead and fill those right away. I'm in!! I'm not sure which campus I will head to yet. Best of luck to you guys

Thanks ML!

Well even in the case of only being accepted to one campus, you have to send them a reply asking them to hold your seat or release it. You can always drop it later on, but this is basically calling "Dibs" while you await replies from other schools (I think).

She called me back laughing because I sounded very confused and shocked in the message haha.

Congrats Karbosshack! You're right, I know someone else who got in this morning as well. This is so exciting! I wish everyone the best!!! :claps::clap::soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

This thread is so cool. We get such inside information about release dates, etc. 😍

Karb - I looked at a few of your posts...so which tie did you go with?

I take it all these random acceptances are all sent out by now?

I got an acceptance this morning!!!!!! I was so happy when I read the e-mail, my heart was beating a thousand miles per hour. I got the same e-mail text that was posted by karbosshack, also at 8:44AM.

According to the experts on this board it is hideous but hey I liked it and I got in so 👍

Best of luck Invitro

I just got an acceptance from the Phx campus! It was timed 5:15, definitely didn't expect it this late in the day. I'm choosing Tucson for sure though.

Wow! Congratulations on what must be one of the best days of your life so far. Have you talked to Phoenix, or do you happen to know if they have now offered all of their seats?

I have a feeling from now until the waitlist comes the adcom will send acceptances piecemeal as more spots present themselves.
