Congrats on your choice for Phoenix!! I'm sure it's a huge decision regarding which campus to pick... although I could only dream of being forced to choose. Thanks for the heads up though 🙂

I watched a documentary on a group of entering Harvard med students for the class of 1991. The film updates on this group until today and it is so amazing to see their transition both on a professional and personal level.

Check it out:

Congrats spicy, I am sure making that decision takes a big burden off of your mind.

Like sunny was suggesting some will need to go through the next application/mcat cycle and I was wondering.....

Do any waitlisters 40 and under, have any books, sample exams or any other material to donate/lend to those having to go through the next mcat cycle?

If I get in I would be glad to burn.. err I mean donate my MCAT study material to anyone who needs it.

I have a set of Princeton Review books and Exam krackers set. They are well used (I write all over stuff) but I would be happy to donate them.

Congrats to those who had good news lately and good luck to everyone waiting.

Can someone try and call this afternoon?

See if we are past 17.

You didn't get a call today, did you Lovemed?

I called again and nothing. Someone just needs to call tomorrow morning then, unless we use 17 for today and wait until Friday. Sorry guys I tried!

I wanted to let all of you know that I decided to give up my seat in Tucson, so the waitlist should be up to at least #17 today.

It's kinda crazy thinking that one person's decision to attend one campus over the other can determine the fate of either the last waitlistee accepted from phoenix vs. the last waitlistee accepted from tucson. You could about go crazy thinking about this too much.

I need to get off of this thing and clean my apartment.

Looks like the admissions office has decided to take up derm office hours.

My boyfriend called, and they said it was 17!

...You're next lovemed!

And how nice of your boyfriend, Doctora. It's amazing the steady movement we've had so far. Depending on how quickly the wait list moves in May, we may go as deep as last year!

Aww, MadEvans, you called me Doctora! That's sweet. I hope you get in this year! So we can be classmates!

But anyway, yes, he called to confirm that it was indeed 17! 👍

C'MON WAIT LIST!

I'm CLOSE to next!! I'm 23 so only six more people need to decline their acceptances!!! Gettin excited though...

The whole ivy league school type stuff is such BS. Just another example of our socities classism. Just another way to make others feel that somehow thier education is inferior and those people whom were accepted by the Ivys gain an enourmous ego boost. Ok so they made you read a few more books for that grade or they made you write those 4 extra pages. As if it wasnt possible to read the same literature.Like Harvard med will teach you secrets of medicine that you can't learn at UA COM or by picking up the exact same book they use. Just another example of separation in this country intead of unity.

dude, your misunderstanding the differences between schools like Harvard and the UA. Harvard is made up of students, physicians, facilities...all which contribute to make what Harvard is known for. When people are saying how good Harvard is, they're talking about the teaching hospital, the physicians teaching the students (the same physicians who are pioneers in their field and contribute the why the hospital is as renowned as it is) and the students.

From the same book a Harvard student would probably do something very different from a UA student. Its not really what they teach you at Harvard, its what the students do with the same teaching that makes the school (students) different

Also, HereICome, I'm sure you've had good teachers and awful teachers, and I assume that the difference is clear to you. Generally speaking, Ivy's have the resources to attract and retain better faculty as well as to be able to be more selective when hiring than, say, a community college.

Its not really what they teach you at Harvard, its what the students do with the same teaching that makes the school (students) different

For example, freshman science majors in all schools are exposed to the concept of accuracy versus precision. For many, it's a refresher of what was learned in high school. As a gross, maybe offensive generalization, those kids with the higher scores (that got them into the Ivy's) are more likely to have a better understanding of that concept (of course, there are always exceptions) and to apply it beyond course mechanics to, say, modeling waitlist number dynamics.

If I was fortunate enough to have a choice to be in a student body and taught by faculty that was amongst the brightest or most selected in the nation, I'd gladly take that option over having to suffer through less efficient teachers and less academically-prepared classmates.

Ok dude, so yes Harvard is made up of students, physicians, and facilities. Good that we have that established. What I understand Harvard to be known for is the fact that it is the oldest higher learning institution in this country, also because its many famous alumni. I also understand that one could learn quite a bit from the physicians in the area of the college. If you want to learn from them be sure to try and do a residency at Brigham's or somewhere around that area. Pioneers are all around us my friend, matter of fact I recently watched a webcast of some crazy pioneering going down at Northwest Medical. When you have a medical system geared toward finding that new next big thing as opposed to perfecting what we already have, not to say foward progress is bad, then pioneers abound.

I would hope that a Harvard and a UA student would be doing something different, otherwise this signals to me that our education system is failing and higher institutions are nothing more then factories producing robots. I would agree that its not really what they teach you at Harvard. Wasn't that what I was trying to say in the first place??? That the education you receive there is no more special then the education you receive elsewhere like maybe the library.

"Its what the students do with the same teaching"

Well buddy it looks like its up to you and I to show those ego boosted Harvardees that were not only just as good as they are but better. We blaze our own trails instead of always following in footsteps. We can join the rest of the 80% or more "non-ivy league" famous graduates. You and I can do great things, like those Harvardees all we have to do is try. Just my opinion.

Qui audet adipiscitur.

Im also not blind to the fact that they do have fat pockets over there. And yes it is true that quality many times follows the money. Just not always. Quality can be found anywhere. Comparing Harvard to a community college is quite a leap though. Honestly if I had the choice of an Ivy education I would take it, not because I felt I would be better trained but more due to the fact that that is what society would believe. I would walk away grossly overcharged though. What I'm just tired of seeing is all the ivy league this ivy that. How many UA grads would it take to equal a Harvard grad??? 15?? 20?? It only takes 1 of them to screw in a lightbulb over there at Harvard and I hate the fact the UA science library is so damn dark.

Good Will Hunting? I love that movie so much.

See, the sad thing about a guy like you is in 50 years you're gonna staht doin some thinkin on your own and you're gonna come up with the fact that there are two certaintees in life. One, don't do that. And Two, you dropped a hundred and fifty grand on a ****in education you coulda got for a dollah fifty in late chahges at the public library.

Hahaha, thanks. 🙂 I've gotta start practicing mi espanol for my south american viaje this summer.

Oops I thought you were 18 for some reason... my mistake.

Well buddy it looks like its up to you and I to show those ego boosted Harvardees that were not only just as good as they are but better. We blaze our own trails instead of always following in footsteps.

Have you actually gotten to know anyone who went to Harvard? I doubt it. It just sounds like you're poo-pooing a status symbol. It's perceived as higher than yourself, so it's not tolerable.

I happen to have known three Harvard pre-meds. They each decided against going into medicine and blazed their own unique trails. They were far from ego-boosted, which is probably what some other people would be if they could claim certain titles and associations, like M.D. or Navy SEAL.

Wow buddy you pretty much took it past what I was talking about and from what I can tell chose to attack me. My idea was that just because you went to harvard doesnt necessarily mean you received a better education. Know people at Harvard?? I have 2 friends from high school attending there currently and they're heads are blown up like no other. I did meet a guy who attended the same interview day as I did from Harvard and he seemed pretty humble. I know a few other people in the Ivys as well and some, but not all have gotten kind of cocky. Im not trying to poo on anyones education so dont get it twisted. The whole "ego boosted" thing may be a generalization but it does have basis.

Ok so you knew 3 people who decided not to go into medicine who went to Harvard, go get yourself a cookie, you deserve it. I took your last line as a direct comment at me considering my name and the forum Im on. If so kid your sad. Attack the idea not the person, we're big boys now.

Edit: Also that comment was an attempt to motivate that individual to look past a graduating institution and realize that whatever becomes of him is up to him and him alone not his school and he has the capability to do whatever the Harvard kids can do.

Speaking for myself, I am totally against elitism.

Unless of course I am invited to join the elite.

And all this Harvard/Ivy stuff is starting to bore me, will one of you please pick on Stanford a little.

Hey all. Just found this site again after quite some time. This whole process is so frustrating, I'm glad other people are freaking out too. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all you on the waitlist, I'm hating the not knowing myself (#47).

P.S. I hate Stanford... I mean come on their mascot is a tree

Hey I appreciate the Stanford love, thanks.

But biteme if you are part of the elite and hate elitism, does that mean you hate yourself?

Hold on let me consult Freud on that. Calling Sigmund, calling Sigmund come in Sigmund, sorry I can't seem to raise him .........

Seriously, people. Calm down about the whole Ivy thing. Let's focus on what is at hand. HereICome had no bad intentions.

Haha I think Freud only needs to be "contacted" when there is sexual confusion mixed with hating yourself.

Thanks hereicome, I knew I chose the correct psycho-analyst for the job.

Though between his consultation fee and cost of such a long distance phone call, I don't know if I can afford to speak with him. Hello operator .... operator please cancel that phone call.......

But I must confess that I had to re-read your Dr Acula joke 3 times before I finally got it. So for the sake of those of us who are more dull witted can you please make your jokes less obscure?

Yeah I'm not a huge fan of this Ivy debate... In my opinion a med school is a med school. I don't think UA would be an accredited college of medicine without having some tricks up its sleeve regarding the teaching of medicine. For those of you who have and those of us who probably will get into UA, I think we are a blessed and qualified bunch and I'm proud to be a wildcat for 4 more years. So enough bashing and worshiping of the Ivy's...

On another note, the waitlist is still at 17 🙁 I'm so antsy about them approaching my spot that I lack the restraint to wait more than a day to call the office. I will definitely be throwing a party the day I get my call...

Seriously... don't you wish you could just, like a bear, hibernate until mid-May? I wish I could. It would be nice because finals would be over and the wait list would be cruising at 10 accepted/day, instead of this 10 accepted/month business. 😎

Oh, Freud. The only thing he has done in the realm of sexual confusion is make it more confusing.

And stealing from another Good Will Hunting reference, he "did enough cocaine to kill a small horse"... so, who could trust the whacked out guy anyway?

Amen, sister.

Using 17 for wed's number keeps us on our trendline, I will post a new plot tonight.

I am ashamed of you lovemed.....

At 23, your anxiety is starting to SPOOOOOOOOK some of us who live much further down the line. We need a strong role model.

Don't be ashamed!! I just want the call to be over so I can stop thinking about it all the time... I have a thesis to write and I can't focus on it at all!! And don't be spoooooked - you're the plot maker. Believe in it!

You're not helping me here, lovemed - we need a strong role model.

I don't suppose you want to write my 30 page honors thesis as well do you lovemed? Please? I'll compromise by worrying enough for both of us. Sound like a deal?

Haha I find myself rooting more for 64 than my own number. Come on wl get to 64 already.

and good job MadEvans! always the positive one 🙂 I need some of that optimism so I can actually get rollin on my thesis. Since I'm a psych major, we have a forum next friday where we all present our results. And I got stuck with the appointment to print my poster on Monday - and have yet to analyze my results since my thesis advisor was out of town all last week and sick this week. I'm NOT happy about it! Who knows how I'm gunna pull this off... Now do you want to trade places HereICome??

Except for madevans we are all starting to wimp out.

Scene: wide panoramic camera angle -
Sailors jumping frantically off of their ship into the ocean.
Voice over: Captain speaking over the announcing system -
"This is the Captain, cancel that Abandon Ship Command I just gave"
Tighter camera shot -
Crew heads bobbing in the water, looking up from the ocean with astonished facial expressions.
Ship sailing away into the sunset
