I guess that advice from the med students, "there will be what seems like weeks with no wait list movment" held true. Who'd have thought those guys would have been so right about this process? It's like they went through it themselves or something... 🙄

But seriously, c'mon wait list. 😡

Wow, that is horrible!

But, thinking about it logically... this is a time of the year that most students would not be declining their acceptances. There was some movement around the time the phx wait list came out and a few trickled out the weeks after, maybe because some chose phx over tucson.

But why would anyone abandon their acceptance now? They have probably been holding it for a while, so until all of their finincial aid packages are received I would be surprised IF someone did leave their spot at this time of the year. I'd probably call them crazy. Keep those heads up and hopefully we'll see some massive wait list movement here in a couple weeks and we can all be happier campers.

But seriously, come ON wait list.

I think there is some good logic to your explanation (madevans).

So I think I will wait till friday to post an update.

I figured we wouldn't be hearing any good news today.

Based on what I have heard this past week, there seems to be a lot of controversy going on at the medical school. The Leadem firing and the lack of answers from Dr. Malan regarding this decision have brought about a lot of concern from current students and future students both. I think many people may be waiting for the instability to settle down a bit before making any decisions in regard to what medical school to attend. There are recurrent problems at the Tucson campus and the debate seems to be centered around increasing the board scores by limiting the number of high risk students accepted. Until this conflict is resolved, it seems as though many of the UA staff are split down the middle.

In regard to wailist movement, I have heard from a friend of mine that the waitlist tends to move quite a bit after May 15th. I am not exactly sure why because this date falls after the final decision deadline. Apparently, the waitlist moved from 42-57 within two weeks of the May 15th decision last year. I am pretty scared right now since nothing has happened in almost two weeks and I am in the forties. Guess we just have to keep our fingers crossed :xf:

I would have expected to see more people declining Tucson with all the recent turbulence. I just want the dang list to move to 64 already.

Maybe those with UA acceptances were on wait lists at other schools, and they were offered a position once the mid may movement madness happened. It takes the different schools a bit of time to make offers, receive declines from applicants they made the offer to, then make new offers the next day or so after their offered spot is declined.

Hey, I just found this thread! It's great to see that there are other U of A waitlisters out there 🙂 - I'm #38.

Also, thanks nonloality for posting those graphs. I had thought there would be no way they'd get to my number, but I have regained hope!

Of course I am rooting for #64, which is a definate possibility when the movement picks up in a few weeks!

Welcome sarahw, at #38 I think you are in the "slam dunk", "Elvis has left the building" category.

But watch out for hereicome he is a bit of a whiner but madevans is our upbeat cheerleader.

God willing I'm hoping we'll see a movement of at least 10 in the weeks surrounding May 16. Otherwise I'm screwed.

UH...yeah. I think most of us will be screwed if that happens. AMCAS opens up at the beginning of May. If I need to fill that out again, I'm screwed.

Got some scholarship money 👍 (not much, but hey, feels good 😀)

Anyone else get their financial aid packages today?

Haha yea, I got my package today with scholarship money. Its funny how small the amount appears compared to tuition and cost of living. I also was able to register for classes on webreg-but im confused because it doesn't distinguish between phx or tucson courses...but there are professor names-and I think they are Tucson professors--and im not accepted to Tucson obviously.

So we need to make sure we get the WL number tomorrow before they go home early again..Man I hope it atleast went up to 18!! I dont think ill ever like the number 17 again-def not a lucky one.

Schadenfreude

Hey don't take it that way-- didn't mean to be a dick or anything, it's just that the other thread in the "allopathic" section is largely inactive, so I figured most people would just look here.

Agreed. Hey hemingway are you on the WL at Tucson and accepted at Phoenix? Or are you 100% Phoenix?

Flaunting an acceptance in the face of the waitlistees. How mean.

Just giving you a hard time.

In Phoenix at least, they will take care of registration for you. No need to try to figure it all out.

was just wondering, how much is the abg financial aid package?

Had a choice but ended up giving up my seat at Tucson and deciding on Phoenix after visiting both campuses.

Mine is about 44,000 with a tiny little scholarship amount and the rest safford loans...

so 44k a year? like 10k in scholarship and 34k in loans?...sorry a little confused, would be great if you could clarify

I think the word "tiny" designates less than 10k. I would ask her via PM if you're that interested.

That does sound like a pretty good amount to work with, though. I make quite a bit right now so I would start having to live a little more frugally, but having such little debt makes UA that much 😎er.

Wow madevans even the newbies are fans of yours. Where are my fans?🙁

Heh, heh, heh. Face it, you're just not as cool as me. Errr wait, who is the one working on a Friday night? 👎, I must not be as cool as I thought I was.

The estimated cost of attendance (as much as they let you borrow) is around 44,000. Everyone in the COM gets the 1250 grant, but usually that is about it. More scholarship (not much) money comes in your second semester and second year.

Thanks mandertwin - that is really helpful information.

Are you guys all going with the loans the school comes up with, or are you looking at private loans too?

I plan on borrowing as little as possible. Probably taking the school's COA and then giving back whatever I have left over.

Lucky for me though, I have a sugar mama.

Um, I'm guessing your sugar mama is your mom. Yeah, your cool factor just went down a little, but we still want you to get in this year. 😛

Stafford loans will cover 100% of COA so unless you have a really high ECF you shouldn't have to go that route.

I wish! My parents didn't help me at all through undergrad so i doubt they will for medical school either.

I was the sugar daddy of my girlfriend through undergrad, so our unwritten pre-nup suggests she owes me 4 years pay back throughout medical school, right? 😛 The best part of the deal is, she makes twice as much as I did throughout undergrad since she's an RN now.

Woo hoo! I'm so excited to not have to work anymore. Working weekend night shifts has been GREAT and all... but, yeah. It's served its purpose and I'm definitely ready to be done with it. Regardless of grad school or medical school for me, I'm done forever with school + work at the same time after this Spring.
