Congrats, Cuddy! Guess I won't be meeting you in Phoenix now, though 🙁 Ah well, enjoy Tucson!

You'll be meeting me, though! It's official... I'll be going to U of A phx!!! 🙂

I am sure that was a tough choice for you madevans.

Either way you get to be a great doctor but this choice lets you stay home.

I guess we can't expect you to get us all into wake forest now.

New waitlist plot.

Congrats cuddy I bet you had a wonderful day.

Congrats to baselimam and madevans on their multiple choice downselects.

Analysis-
We are maintaining the momentum and continue to trend higher. And we continue to see the delayed ripple effects of Phx interacting with Tucson, (cuddy and baselimam) as a Phx waitlist offer acceptance turns into a Tucson waitlist offer.

My estimated 09 trendline is paralleling the 08 one of about six (5.8) waitlist seats per week.

Estimate-
With this continued momentum I have pushed the likely landing zone into the fifties.

I am predicting a early-june waitlist number of 50-57.

If we can continue this momentum for another week we might be able to get close to the 08 result of about 59 by early june.

Stay tuned if you are in the low sixties.

We need to get hereicome to keep sprinkling that mojo.

Thanks everyone for the congrats! This thread def has some mojo going on....congratulations EVERYONE! I went down to the school today and so many little things to do...but so exciting. Good luck to the 40's people-I feel good about the WL continuing. Keep us posted!

Still a ways to go before I hear any good news but congrats to all of you that have been accepted in the past week! UA Med is definitely a great place to get a well rounded medical education with a lot of clinical emphasis. I hope this accelerated movement continues for a bit longer :xf::xf::xf::xf::xf:

Just called. "We've accepted 40."

Congrats to everyone accepted! Thanks for calling sunny1. I tried calling a few times today with no answer. I can't believe were in the 40's! 45 can't come soon enough 🙂

You'll be meeting me, though! It's official... I'll be going to U of A phx!!! 🙂

YYYAAAAAYYYYY MADEVANS! Good choice. 🙂 I'll be meeting you in July! Although, I think we should have a little phx bar-b-q as well before school starts and get everyone together. 🙂

Will someone call in today to get a current waitlist number for my plot?

Yesterday's 40 (thanks sunny1) keeps us on track for a solid finish.

I second that. 👍

My friend got in today and I believe she was #42. Don't quote me but I think that was her number!!!! Yay for waitlist movement 🙂 🙂 I can't wait to meet you all very soon!!!!

lovemed04 can you ask your friend what # she was? Since we won't be able to get any updates until Tuesday I would love to know if we're actually on 42! Thanks 🙂

42 would be INCREDIBLE!!! I didn't think it was possible but this is getting even more stressful! Carobe you'll have to keep me posted as soon as you find out hopefully next week! I'm pulling for you!

I send my love straight back.

I'm pretty sad I won't be meeting a lot of you Tucson-bound peeps, but definitely excited to be staying in PHX for medical school and meeting all of the Phoenix-bound folks. 😎

Im down for the BBQ-we should plan on it for mid-July as it gets closer to school! Do you have a facebook HereIcome (you can PM me your name so I can add you) and we could spread word there as well...

It'll be cool knowing some of you before school starts!

i texted her yesterday and she didn't get back to me, but i remember when the waitlist came out she told me she was 40-something. and i'm SO down for a BBQ!!! and there are 2 facebook groups that i can invite you guys to (PM me your name) or you can find and join -- i dont remember exact names but look up UA College of Med 2013 and i'm sure ull find both 🙂

Haha I never really got into the whole facebook, myspace scene I still dont really even know what twitter is. Just PM me if you are down for a bbq so I can get a count and July would be great to do it. I checked out the class of 2013 page on Facebook and was like, Oh no! Cute girls! followed by a blush.

By the way does anyone else have a bunch of friends who are currently doing nothing with thier lives?

Me, haha. Kinda random subject there HereICome. I was a bit of a hoodlum in high school, so all my friends are either in jail, in rehab, or living at their parents' house without a job. Luckily I've made new friends since then that have... what are those things called... oh yeah, goals.

I hope there's some movement for you guys tomorrow. 🙂

Lol so it turns out that I know wannabedoctora but had no idea the whole time. I wonder if I know any more of you. :ninja:

:beat:

Seriously. Small world...but not really. I thought I had managed to get rid of you. Hehehe...jk.

ughh i got the boot from the Bridge Program. Apparently, the last seat was between myself and someone who was just accepted off the waitlist and that person got the last slot for the bridge program. BOOOOO any news on waitlist movement?

Yea I was interested in the Bridge Program too but I figured it would be too late for me also. In a way I'm glad we wont be starting earlier but I think it would have been really helpful!

SO EXCITED FOR SCHOOL! (and our bbq of course) 🙂

Someone want to call in for an updated waitlist number?

I think we have about another 2 weeks before this waitlist season comes to a stop. But there is always hope for a small last moment addition.

just called. still 42.

Here is my new waitlist plot, thanks sunny1 for the update.

Analysis-
We have dramatically stepped down our pace from the past two weeks. Of course we had a long holiday weekend that helped.

With about two weeks left to go we will need to maintain our current pace in order to get into the low fifties.

We might be running low on mojo.

Estimate-
I am still holding our likely landing zone for early-june at 50-56.

Good luck to all and I hope we keep supporting each other, especially those who are very near the last.

I feel like we all need to start taking bets on the final number, that way if I fall just short I can at least make a little cash to cushion the blow right? Thanks for the plot nonlocality, if you get this right you should move to PA and take over for the groundhog, so far you've done a ridiculously amazing job since the first couple numbers, i'm certainly impressed.

Congratulations to everyone who has gotten off the waitlist so far! I waited an entire 7 months to find out I got into med school so I know how that uncertainty feels. For everyone that is still waiting, keep the faith!

Hey guys, congrats to everyone who made it to the waitlist. I can't believe anyone would turn down UA due to the cost and program so I'm amazed that it is this deep already. Has anyone here volunteered at any of the CUP programs? If so, could you PM me or reply here and tell me how it went and how you got started doing that? Thanks.

What you put into CUP is what you get out. I really enjoy CUP and it has really helped me understand other aspects of med school. Other people only enjoy certain programs, some do them all, its all up to you. You can do anything from medical exams in clinic to educational programs for children on drugs and nutrition. CUP info and sign-up sheets can be found on the CUP board outside the student lounge.

I was talking to hereicome and I got him to reveal his top 3 all time most fun, most exciting and most wonderful things on his medical school to do list.

Now I know he is stranger than most but I am sure that all of you will find at least one of these in your top three.

Here goes and I am quoting hereicome now.

Number THREE all time is - Trying to get a parking permit for med school

Hereicome speaking to parking permit officer - "I need to purchase a parking permit for med school next fall what do you have available?"

Parking officer - "Well it is kind of late in the season and there are not many open spots left, let me see. Oh, I have a spot available in a parking lot just outside of Nogales for $600. I know it's far away, but we have van service directly from there to the medical center campus"

Hereicome - "Don't you have anything available in Tucson?"

Number TWO all time is - visiting your favorite local police/sheriffs office

Hereicome speaking to a police officer - "I need to get finger printed for medical school next fall."

Police officer - "You look familiar, have I seen you on the FBIs Most Wanted List or Americas Most Wanted TV show?"

Hereicome - "No, I just look like a terrorist."

Number ONE all time is - Getting your immunization shots

Hereicome to the nurse - "I need to bring my immunizations up to date for school next year"

Nurse - "OK let me see. Yeah you need 5 shots, and one of them is a big one. Where do you want them, in the arm or butt?"

Hereicome - "In the butt, I am scared of needles"

Hey hereicome bend over and show us that big bruise from all those shots.

Eyow, thats pretty nasty.

"No, I just look like a terrorist."

I look like a terrorist, too. I really need to get a hair cut and start shaving regularly. I mean they can't us to expect to know the whole professionalism bit BEFORE going to medical school, right?

Do you guys have a guess about what each of us look like? I know my guesses for Broooother and 4ANR6N (whom I thought was a dude before finding her on facebook) were WAY off. I bet my mental images of what HereICome and Nonlocality look like are way off too. Hah.

🙂 You look pretty much how I expected you would, MadEvans!

Even though staying at 48 students isn't what UA-Phx wants, I think it's probably better for the students who are accepted. Many of us who had the option to go to either Tucson or Phoenix and other schools, chose Phoenix because it offered a smaller class size. A class size of 48 means a very close-knit community of administrators, faculty and students which I believe will translate to a better launchpad for reaching residency programs (rec letters etc).

The Phoenix campus really seems to want to set itself apart from being "just another state school", and I honestly think a class size of 48 will help it continue to attract higher caliber applicants. They should focus on their strengths-- the intense clinical training, rotations at the best hospitals in the 6th largest city in the US, the scholarly project, and so forth, rather than trying to increase the class size.
Of course every school needs to be financially solvent, but I worry that if they increase their class size, the quality of the applicant and student will decrease, as they won't be able to offer the unique advantages it has now. It's definitely a balancing act, but I would hate to see UA-Phoenix lose its individuality.
