Congratulations, Carobe! I was hoping for some good news on this thread!

Congratulations carobe, the 2013 all star team has added another member.

I withdrew about 3:00 pm AZ time so there should be someone else accepted soon.

Thanks everyone! It's such a relief. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

So you guys are making me nervous with all this talk about so much stuff I need to do; I'm worried that i'm gonna forget something. Anyone want to give me a list of important to do's??? 🙂

The class of 2014 is going to have to start putting in their applications here pretty soon. Wow. Time flies, eh? I remember thinking what seems like a few days ago that this time of the app season would never come.

In other news, I'm now living with the in-laws until the wifey and I find a house to live in. Yeah, that's right... livin' the dream.

That to do list on the class website is not comprehensive. There are things like getting a parking permit and others depending on whether you are coming in from a school other than the UofA. Also things like rsvp for certain functions in august, begining your lender search, etc.

Thanks cougar for posting your news and good luck at your first choice school.

Madevans, living with the inlaws I am sure that will be a humbling experience and will probably provide a few good stories to tell.

Does someone want to call and get an updated waitlist number for today?

Did anyone request a file review for Tucson and NOT get one? If you did and didn't get one, why do you think that is?

I requested one the first day they said you could. Never heard back. Called about a month or so later and was told they had my name on the list.

Emailed last Friday (since it said they were doing them between April 1 and June 1) to check in and got a response that they were doing file reviews on people who were waitlisted after people who were rejected but that I would receive my review by June 1. Still have not received it.

At this point, I don't think it's personal. I think it's because they are busy or have been doing other things. I suppose I should email again today to follow up. I would definitely like to make sure my impressions of what I need to strengthen for my reapp are in sync with their desires.

Just called. They've accepted 46.

Here is a new waitlist plot, thanks for the update sunny1.

I am still holding the likely landing zone for early-mid june at between 50-56 but it seems likely that we will be on the low end of that range.

Good luck to those in the 50's.

I believe that after this early-mid june run, say from mid-june to late-july that we will see a slow gradual increase of from 3-6 waitlist spots.

So if those within the next 3-6 spots have no other options, then I recommend that they try to remain in close contact with the admissions office, let them know that they are interested in a last minute offer, be flexible in their plans and keep calling for waitlist seat updates.

Congrats Carobe! I can't believe they're at 46 now...wow.

Although not everything is on the checklist, if you go through the 2013 website you should catch just about everything.

Actually Indy you have 2 spots to go!!! Just got accepted!!! Can't wait to meet you all this fall!

Congrats and welcome to the party soiwannabeeadr.

All of the current waitlist movement is pretty exciting! Just keeping my fingers crossed for two more spots to open up in the next week or so. Congrats to everyone accepted recently and good luck to the others who are still waiting! 😀

No other party I'd rather be at. It's been the best day ever! Thanks.

Indy best of luck I'm pulling for you, the last couple spots are the worst and seem to take eternities to move, personal opinion anyway.

Will someone call in today and get an updated waitlist number?

Thanks for the waitlist update mymembernames and here is a new plot.

Analysis-
I have made significant changes to this plot.

I have added 2006 waitlist data. Their waitlist came out in early april and was only 50 deep. From what I read it seems like they went all the way through all 50 people. Interestingly they sustained their momentum all the way through mid june, perhaps because of a late start.

This is now a very comprehensive piece of work and I will ultimately post this excel workbook for future classes to use as they please.

I think we have about a week left before we begin to seriously slow down and crawl. Of course during this crawl phase it will be really tough on those who are right on the edge of being called.

We were pulling about 5 a week but in the past few days we have started to loose much of that momentum.

Estimates-
I have shrunk and relocated the mid-june Likely Landing Zone to between 49-52.

I also have put a Final Landing Zone out near Orientation Day. I think that from mid-june through late-july we will likely get to between 52-56. My thinking is that duing this period we will likely see a few late school switches, late school drop-outs, and some deferments. Also as we push to the bitter end, some on the waitlist in these spots might have already made firm commitments to other schools/activites - so we might have to push through many more waitlist spots to fill an empty seat.

Better yet, you should use the data and submit some kind of manuscript for publication. You've spent enough time on this to deserve a publication, haha.

Thanks sunny1.

Standby indy, you will probably get a call on thursday.

They've accepted 48.

I'm pulling for your number sunny. Keep your chin up and hope for some last second movement. From what I've heard from you, you're probably more qualified than most of us. :xf:

PS - nonlocality are you going to do plots for next year's class? Becuase I'm thinking a statistics lover like yourself doesn't come around too often seeking an MD degree.

No I think this season of plotting will be it for me, madevans.

I hope that it has provided some solace to the folks who were ultimately called and for those who are still awaiting their calls.

I have a feeling that the tucson adcoms will ultimately make this waitlist process more opaque to give them more flexibility. That would be tragic for those who are caught up in it.

Indy, why is it taking you so long?

still 48. hang in there, indy.

No activity on this thread for quite sometime and still no good news on my end....will this ever happen? 🙁

Yeah it will happen.

We are in the crawl stage so it will go very SLOOOOOOOOOW ......

I think madevans is correct we will probably wind up at about 52 this year.

We still have not seen the drops, deferments, financial problems, problems with criminal records, etc.

If you want you can send me a PM with an email address and I can sent you a to do list that you will have to tackle once you get your call. You can see what is on it and start planning on how to tackle it.

Hey Guys,

I am going to be a fourth year med student at the UA. I would like to live with other med students if possible; trying to put the word out there!

I think we should find out where indy lives and go over there and have a talk with him.

He is really SLOOOOOOOOOWWWW .........................

Hello all. Since 3rd year is wrapping up, I am hoping to get some honest answers so that I can get a better idea of what 3rd year is like at the UA. First, I understand that for surgery you have to wake up at 3am. What about for OB? Is it the same? How often do you take call? Is it no more than q4? Were you ever scheduled to be in the hospital over 80 hours a week? I heard that there is no law preventing med students, just residents. Finally, is there anything you would have done differently with regards to sleeping habits, eating habits, studying habits, whatever?

you know you´re addicted to SDN when.... you check it from Ecuador.

Maybe it's time to throw in the towel 🙁
You never know, it could still happen! :xf:

What are your backup plans just in case? I only ask because I need to reapply.

Hang tough, something may open up here in the next week or so.

I know indirectly of someone who is on the fence about attending this year. This person has yet to sign up for classes.

In fact if you look at the first year class list, there are about 113/112 folks signed up for them.

So if they are really going to go to 115 this year then a couple of seats may soon open up. Those two seats may translate into 2-5 waitlist seats depending on other waitlister's prior commitments.
