University of California Schools slower than others?

I was wondering that too. I'm in-state I was complete in mid-August, and I haven't heard back from them yet. Not even a rejection (besides UCSF). USC has had no word either, but judging by the rest of the threads, it seems that they are well into the interview process. I guess they're just waiting until it's all over to reject us? The suspense is killing me and I hate how I'm still holding onto hope because realistically, I'm probably just going to be disappointed in the end. 🙁

I don't think this is true. Most (5/7) of my interviews are from UCs and I applied to 21 schools total.

I definitely feel like they're slower than some others:

Davis: C 8/6, R 11/13
Irvine (fastest of them all!): C 8/8, R 9/25
UCLA: C 8/13, II 12/6
UCSF: C 8/2, II 10/4
USC: C 8/8, still waiting...
UCSD: C 9/12, H 12/1, Waiting...

UCI Initial Review Complete (Mid August)
UCSD C: 9/1 Nothing....
UCSF I: 10/14
UCLA No Secondary
UCD C: Mid August Nothing...
USC C: Mid August Nothing...

I'd rather them reject me or interview me than be left in this limbo.

You got an interview invite from LA and SF...and rejected from Davis and Irvine...when I think that this process cannot literally confuse me anymore...I see sh-it like this and low and behold...a new bottom.

I just got an II from UCSF yesterday, which I thought was pretty slow. But from the dates they gave me to pick from it looks like there are only a handful of interview dates left open, so that to me would imply they're almost done? I dunno, this is the only CA school I applied to so I don't have much else in the way of insight to add.

MonkeyMD, I feel like you and I should be friends. I see you in the school specific threads and I share your feelings of frustration. I have 1 rejection (UCSF), 1 invite (UCD), an interview waitlist at UCSD, and nothing from the other UC's or USC. I am surprised and saddened, because my stats are competitive for the UC's and I was complete in early September. I hate this state.

I am baffled as well. When you look at the stats of students that do/don't get interviews at UC's, there doesn't seem to be any trend. I suspect there is some sort of specific extracurricular factor they are looking for. I'd be more interested in interviewed applicants' ECs than their stats.

I think so too.

Not sure if this was actually a request to hear some ECs or not, but here are mine (I just got an II from UCSF, the only UC I applied to - I'm OOS):
-Planned Parenthood peer educator for a year
-Planned Parenthood health center volunteer weekly (just filing, nothing actually clinical)
-Volunteer in ED (since March 2011, every week for 4 hours)
-Loads of research - all through undergrad part-time, two summers' worth full-time (REUs), currently working full-time as a lab manager/research tech for two years, one publication as first author in Chemosphere; all of this research, though, was in freshwater/terrestrial ecology, nothing even remotely related to medical science
-Some volunteering here and there with the Secular Alliance at my school
-Leadership positions in two feminist clubs for a long time in undergrad

To be honest, I was pretty surprised to get an II from UCSF after everything I've heard about UC schools. I am assuming my ECs showed I would fit well at the school, because my stats aren't anything too special (3.98, 35R).

I do want to hear people's ECs, but I'm more interested in people that got interviews at UC Davis or UC Irvine (or USC). I know the other UCs are just extremely competitive, but UCD and UCI (and USC) shouldn't be so unreasonably difficult to get interviewed at (based on USNWR rankings and MSAR info).

It surprised me too. You can't be sure of anything in this process. My stats are higher than their averages, but I must be missing that little sumthin' sumthin' that they're looking for. I think it has a lot to do with my ECs. My background is very research intensive, with less clinical experience. I've noticed I've been getting a lot of bites from the research power-house schools & rejections from those that don't care as much for research.

I got an unfounded notion, but what if they interview prime applicants later than non-prime applicants?

Whelp things don't look good for me haha
