Hi everyone!
I'm lucky enough to have acceptances from both UMN and UIA, and I'm having a tough time comparing the two because they seem so similar. Can anyone with experience/knowledge on these two schools weigh in?

(I am a MN resident, but OOS tuition for IA is comparable to IS for MN)

Congrats! How do you feel about location? As far as I know, Iowa is in a smaller college town while Minnesota is in the biggest city in the state, correct? That could make a big difference in cost of living and overall happiness.

Also, is there anything in particular you might want to do that one school has an advantage over the other? Just some things to think about.

Thanks! I don't think I have a preference for the city itself; I did my undergrad in Minneapolis and didn't find it too big, but I'm also from a smaller town in MN and I don't always find that too small. AKA I'm not picky, which isn't helping me choose between Iowa City and Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Also, I don't know what I want do go into yet, and as far as I can tell the schools match certain specialties at similar numbers (MN's may look more primary care geared, but that's because they pool Duluth's campus with Minneapolis during 3rd/4th years).

I've been looking at schedules/curriculums and trying to compare those--any opinions on what is the best type? I was also looking for who teaches UMN lectures; Iowa's is ~50/50 MD/PhD. I prefer more MD's after suffering through undergrad PhD lecturers who only seem to want to go back to lab.

Thanks!

I don't know if MN has an official second look, but Iowa has their second look in April. If you can make it, maybe you will meet your potential classmates and that will help you decide.
