University of Illinois c/o 2021 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm also waiting on a decision notice from Mizzou, so my email is a mine field. Everytime I get an email, I get all excitedly anxious. Which will come first😆. So far nothing but unimportant spam and work, such a let down.

Same!

We're having a site visit from the AVMA this week, so ASA may be dealing with that tomorrow (since they are doing the site visit today and tomorrow). So you might get them tomorrow or Wednesday.

OOS - Pennsylvania. But I lived near Chicago for 14 years and got my first bachelors from Illinois. 🙂 So I guess I feel like I'm IS, but I'm not... lol.

OOS got an interview!
Does anyone know when is the lasted an interview could be? I am flying to Chicago then take the shuttle between O'Hare and Champaign. If I could get onto the shuttle by 4pm then I could still catch the evening flight to come back on Monday and don't miss 4 classes on Tuesday... the flights to Chicago are already $400+ so I really hope to book the flights before next Wednesday

When I interviewed, the interviews were 8-5. I don't know if that means the last interview started at 5 or ended at 5, but that should give you an idea. I'm not sure how times are assigned, either.

OOS interview invite! 🙂
Now, to decide if I should spend the money to travel out to Illinois and possibly be rejected, or just accept my offer from Oregon State University.

If you go to U of I as your undergrad, your interview time will most likely be later. (Mine was at like 4:15 pm lol) to accommodate the OOS interviews they normally schedule in the morning. I think they end at 5, but I don't know. I was one of the last times to interview

Congrats to everybody getting invites tod

That would be awesome if thats the case because my microbio lab has a ridiculous attendance policy and i was not wanting to have to deal with that if I missed the day lol

What's the shuttle? Is it arranged by the vet school for interviews or just always goes? I'm trying to decide if it's actually going to be feasible for me to get to this interview :/ it's just so late to make flight arrangements

No it's not offered for us interviewees... we get to pay for it. I lived in Chicago before so that's how I heard of the shuttle
I just found some information on the school website http://isss.illinois.edu/students/incoming/pre_arrival/transportation.html
and I also found a lot information by googling "shuttle between o'hare and urbana-champaign"

Is that Chicago or Champaign? I was able to purchase tickets for Dec 23 on November 27 for 300 round trip between Chicago and Denver. Even if it's reeeealllly crappy seats, it'll be worth it.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT FLY INTO CHAMPAIGN!!!!! It'll really be 500 or 600 bucks.

OOS interview invite! 🙂

Which one is cheaper? lol. U of I is awesome, but it's not, "I'm going to go here even though it's more expensive," awesome.

If you take a Greyhound or a Peoria Charter from Chicago and back, it's like $25 each way (if you buy them online). Highly recommend the Greyhound over Peoria Charter.

Husband and I are driving in from Pennsylvania probably the Friday or Saturday prior. It'll be a haul but the excitement will carry us through!!!! Looking forward to meeting you all!

PROTIP to people traveling: Fly into O'hare, take a bus the rest of the way. Small airports get flights randomly cancelled ALL the time. Alternatively is there is anyone in the Madison area who would like a ride hmu

My dad and I drove from Denver! It was a blast (and flying sucks).

Thank you this is really helpful information! Yes I am flying to Chicago and will take shuttle from there, not flying to Champaign 🙂
I also found an 'Illini shuttle' online, would you recommend it? It has a stop at o'hare.
Thank you!!!

I don't know for sure what bus it is, but my roommate takes the one that picks up/drops off at the Panda Express on campus. It seems to be pretty reliable. You could just Uber your way from the stop to the school or your hotel.

I haven't ridden that one, so I can't really give an opinion on that one. Sorry!

It's been a while, but can't you also take the train from Chicago to Champaign? I did this back in the late 90's... not sure if it's a logical option but just throwing it out there...

Oregon is slightly cheaper, roughly $3000 less a year, but $3000 x 4 years + interest. I may need to pass. I also don't want to regret not taking the interview. Can you tell me a bit more about the school though? What are classes like?
I know U of I has an amazing program, but I've also been told to pick the cheapest school because you can get a solid education at any of the schools. I'm not 100% sure what I'd like to focus on in school. I do love small animal but I'm also interested in zoo/wildlife med.

I got an OOS interview, but I'll be turning it down. Hopefully that means someone else will get one!

OOS - declined interview this morning. One more spot hopefully just opened up for someone! 🙂

You can take the train. Not sure how it works, but you can.
