I have only heard good things about UVM and from my interview got the impression that the students are really happy. I haven't heard the same about Buffalo.

have you heard the opposite with buffalo as in students are unhappy? how about matching and step scores? i'm looking at semi competitive residency, so even tho i would love to be happy, i would still want to reach my career goals

I go to UB for med school, and I wouldn't say the students are unhappy at all. I'm almost done with my first year, and have no complaints, other than med school being difficult, which is true anywhere.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either school. It comes down to cost, convenience, location, stuff like that, really.

I mean, is there anything u can tell me about buffalo that might sway me to go?

These things can't be fully answered without more information. For example, are you in state any of them???

Vermont has a slight greater focus on primary care, but I personally know a great Orthopedic Surgeon who graduated from UVM .

I know both schools. Buffalo: the school is on South Campus, the smaller (relatively speaking since it is decent in size) of the two campuses. The North Campus though is clearly the main campus of the university despite the Medical School being on the South Campus. Some facilities on the South Campus can be a bit old. The Health Science library is great. Full shuttle between the campuses. All on campus housing the apartments not the dorms (like Flint, Hadley, South Lake, Flickinger Court and Creekside) are all on the North campus. They are cheap if you can get them. Your other options are in Williamsville or Amherst, nice quite areas, still not to expensive and much better option than Buffalo (North campus is on the boarder between north buffalo and Amherst literally, cross the street and you are in amherst. Buffalo doesn't have any University Hospitals but have individual hospitals in the form of Buffalo General, Millard Filmore, Childrens Hospital, the VA and some of the Kailedia based groups.

I only went to UVM for interview so I don't have as much experience with them. UVM had a great campus. Traveling to it (Driving) sure was picturesque, much more than buffalo as there are mountains in the background. UVM just seemed COLD. I know Buffalo is know for cold and Snow, but I left my house in the early morning (night time)and it was 43 degrees, It was daytime by the time I got to Burlington and it was 26 degrees (with the sun). The Hospital is right there and vermont has other hospitals for clerkship years in Danbury CT, in Maine, Florida and one more. School is highly ranked in primary care, but overall ranking is pretty much equal with Buffalo. UVM buildings are newer and in better shape. The curriculum of vermont, that integrated shortened curriculum is actually the model many schools are choosing to adopt now. the fact that Vermont was a pioneer in it is Kudos to them. Vermont isn't very diverse, and thus why the need for the Florida clerkship, while in Buffalo you will have a variety of different groups and see probably a lot more during Residency. Overall though, I just get the feeling that UVM is the better school. I also agree that the Students seem happier in Vermont than Buffalo.

If money isn't an issue, I say Vermont.
