thanks so much! I am mostly nervous about getting into the city by myself... I am not what we would call a city slicker by any stretch of the imagination. Looking forward to meeting some other SDNers and current students!

Sorry, sorry, sorry! It feels like Thursday to me!

Sorry, sorry, sorry! It feels like Thursday to me!

i found out on monday (the 7th) that my watch still said the 4th because i didnt change it and since feb has 28 days it was wayy off lol

Hey everyone!

I am so excited for interviews tomorrow! I was wondering, i'm interested in LA but was not invited to the NBC day...do you think if I called and said I was interviewing I could somehow finagle a tour of the LA facilities? I REALLY want to see it. Haha

lol omg dont do that!!! there is no way they would do that for you, the NBC is an hr trip. The interview day there is its own day because it takes special planning. If you want to see NBC you can always drive there on your own. And it doesn't mean anything if you didn't get the NBC interview. Like i posted before, they usually only take people who specifically wrote about LA only. So one mention of doing mixed animal or any other animal but large would probably put you in the interviews at Hill.

Also, you aren't allowed in all of the facilities at NBC when you do the tour, we couldn't even go in all of them during orientation. So it is more just driving around and talking about it. It is really big, if you want to see it I'd look it up on penn's site or a map.

Hey! I know most of you have been accepted or invited for an interview...but I wasn't accepted this year and I would love to go to Penn. Does anyone have any suggestions for someone who is re-applying next year? I know about improving grades, GRE scores, etc. but does anyone know of any interesting internships or any extra things that Penn would value? Thanks for your help. Congrats to everyone who got accepted this year!

I knew someone who was rejected last year and reapplied successfully this year. She sat down and met with someone in admissions to discuss her application. I think if you even contacted them via phone or e-mail (after April 15), they would be happy to give you pointers.

👍 Try and set up an appointment with Mr. Keiter. He is super friendly and really helpful. He will also focus on things that you are talking about like research, internships, volunteering etc, not just "increase your GRE, raise your grades". If possible, see if you can get feedback on your personal statement. That may be harder to get since he would have to reread your statement before the phone appt, but it is worth a try. And if you are nearby and go in person I'm sure he would look over it if you brought it with you.

Thanks for your suggestions.... I just set up a meeting with Mr.DiMeo. Do you know if they offer tours or an open house? Thanks again for your help!

Oya Rob is great! He was who I spoke to when I was a pre-vet. He spent a decent amount of time talking to me even though it wasn't an official appointment lol I emailed and he wrote me back and was like just call me and we can chat! So nice.

I have no clue about a tour. I'm not sure if they give personal tours to people applying when they aren't there for an interview. I've seen Mr. Keiter walk a couple people around this year but I have no clue who they were. And it was always a younger person with their parent. So I'm not sure if that was a friend and he was doing a personal favor or a duel degree person. But anyway, I guess you can ask him and find out!

Edit: About an open house. I also have on clue. I remember hearing my IS school having one, but for some reason I dont remember hearing about Penn having one last year. Either that, or I didnt go to it so that's why I dont remember. But I know we have had some trouble with animal rights activists this year, and they sent out emails for people to make sure they dont let people tailgate in etc... So if they had an open house I wonder how they would make sure one of those people didnt get in the building and wonder around lol

When I was a pre-vet I called Penn and was told that they only do tours during the summer months and that you need to call and set up a time to do that.

I don't think we do an open house thing at penn.

For GB, SOV, and Blackat (and anyone else):

Do you know if you can meet with an admission counselor before submitting your app? I know some schools allow you to do this, but not all. Thoughts or experiences?

Just got my phone call about 1/2 hour ago . . . I'm in!!!

Holy moly. (Insert other words here as you see fit.)

When I post my stats, you'll understand. This is a dream come true. I am SO LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING EVERYONE!!!!!

CONGRATS! Were you there Friday? I was too...
and now I begin my panic...

I was! Shoulder-length blond hair, red shirt and grey overshirt, no suit . . .

GOOD LUCK THOUGH!!! Maybe they're taking longer than usual cause they have all the "on hold" people to look through too?? fingers crossed!!

I am sooo happy for you!!I have been thinking about you since our interview day and wishing you luck! While I can't say I will definitely be attending if accepted, we can still be friends and hang out in Philly when I am home! haha 😀 👍 CONGRATS!!!!

I spoke with Rob on the phone before I submitted my application. But I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this. I just asked general questions about volunteering, i told him my stats and asked what he thought about everything. But I didnt have him read over my personal statement or anything like that that would take a lot of time. I'm not sure what exactly you are expecting when you ask this question. If this is your second time applying then in your file review you can get more detailed feedback on your personal statement since they already have it and have reviewed it once before.

But if this is what you were wanting, there is no harm in asking if they will do it if you set up an appointment. Id wait til after April 15th tho lol

I had another advisor look over my personal statement. One that was not affiliated with any of the vet schools that I applied too.

CONGRATS PHAEDRAEOS!!

...I am an alternate @ Penn.

WOOT!👍 ( I am not rejected!)

Last year I was rejected without an interview. This year I am WAITLISTED! Third time is a charm:laugh: (if things do not work out this year of course!)

So the waiting game continues to a whole new level!

Fingers crossed to those still waiting :xf:

alternate too!
I have mixed emotions about this but am very honored to be considered at all, but I need to make decisions about my abroad schools within the month :scared:

congrats guys!!! hopefully the alternate list will move quickly - i have a feeling tuition will play a big role in peoples' decisions this year.

futurevet, what deposit do you need to put down? massey would have been roughly $3000 😱

alternate as well. I'm going to need to make a decision about the schools I have been accepted to. So unfortunately I probably will not be able to wait around to see if I get accepted or not. 🙁 Good luck to you guys!

My heart goes out to you both & buttercup (and everyone else still waiting!) Just hang in there. I don't know how UPenn is with their alternate list, but once people start deciding schools, hopefully the list will move??? :luck::xf::luck::xf::luck:
:biglove:

well, shoot, another waitlist? ugh. I hope you get the call!

(well....ok...not really. 'cuz let's not forget that we are going to WSU together! 😉)

Thanks guys! It's a crazy time indeed.

Heylodeb... totally right 😉 but wait didn't you have a Davis interview recently? Like last week? I am not up to speed, I never go on that thread...

Ugh, I just wish there was more time (April is swiftly approaching). Scary!

Ugh sorry you guys on the alternate list--soooo hard to have to wait longer! But it sounds like you guys have some exciting alternatives so that's great!

On another note---I got a call on Monday and I got in! I'm so shocked! I didn't think my interview went that well. I still can't believe it but I'm so excited!

Congrats goatherd! After reading the successful applicants thread, seems like you have a tough choice ahead of you!

Also, after reading that thread, I think (now this may sound creepy) that we chatted quite a bit at the interview. And we had unknowingly coordinated our suit color? Maybe? If not, then I am completely a creeper. But nevertheless, congrats!

Haha don't worry. I totally did the same thing with SOV last year! I was like ... I think I know who you are .... hahaha I think he can attest I'm not (too) creepy in real life, it's just exciting when you can put a face to a screen name

Thanks for the congrats!! Futurevet---haha that totally was me!! Way to go us on having awesome outfit colors!!
It was so great to meet you--and I hope (selfishly) that you'll get called off the alternate list---although I think you got into WSU and some European schools so maybe you'll choose to go to one of those?
(Totally jealous of your WSU acceptance btw--I love the West Coast)

I'm having a hard time making a decision--Penn is an amazing school and I've certainly had a great education from my post-bacc there...but I really really loved Kansas State--I honestly did not think I would have a decision to make!! And now I need help making it!! haha

And congrats to you too phaedraeos!!!! I think I spoke with you as well at the interview--we were lamenting city parking in snow storms! Great to see that you got in and have made your decision!! Yahooooo! 🙂

It's definitely nice to know a couple of people when you get here.

Unfortunately in my case, I was really bad at remembering people. More than a couple people came up to me at orientation saying "hi, I remember you from our interviews on x/xx. Remember me?" .... "uh no, but nice seeing you again."

Hi, just wanted to bump this thread back up.

I was just accepted off the wait list and I was wondering if you guys have started to think about housing yet. What is the best way to find people to look for housing together?

They will send you a link with your acceptance letter to a listserv for your class. I'm sure people will be looking for housing on there.

If you search on facebook there should be a group for your class also.

congratulations!

Welcome and congrats! We've been pretty quiet here on SDN, but plenty of us are hanging out at the facebook link Ben and Me left you. There's a housing list and plenty of roommate searches going on. Hope to see you there!

Does anyone know if Penn's waitlist is separated for in-state and out-of-state? The waiting is killing me slowly lol.

Yes, it is! I found out on Friday (by calling admissions)that I am #10 on the IS waitlist. I started my plan B after finding this out.

But I know anything can still happen...

Good luck🙂

Hello All- I just signed a lease at the Blenheim on 43rd and Spruce- nice place for a great price...anyone living there currently? Having a walking buddy wouldn't be a horrible thing🙂

There are approximately 10,000 vet students on that block. 🙂 I'm sure there will be plenty from your class!

Do most landlords in Philly require proof of income? If so, how do first year students go about signing leases? My "income" will be loans and I don't have any paperwork yet.

In fact, this fact just caused me to lose the perfect apartment earlier this week. Grrrrrr. 😡

I've looked at two loan agreements so far and neither required proof of income. Both, however, did ask for the signature of a guarantor (which in my case would be my parents).

Thank you🙂 It's just some bizarre crazy nerves that I have that everyone will already know everyone else, and I'll know no one. Completely irrational, but my fear nonetheless.

It seems like a very nice area, and in fact the only people I've seen so far have been students.

It's all coming up so quickly, but it's soooooooooooo exciting.

Thank you🙂 It's just some bizarre crazy nerves that I have that everyone will already know everyone else, and I'll know no one. .

I went through that too. It's totally normal! I distinctly remember being up here already in August and taking my dog on a walk through campus...and not being able to take a deep breath because I was so stressed about not being able to make friends up here!

Almost everyone is in the same boat though, and everyone is looking for new friends. So, don't worry. 🙂

I'll be three blocks away with 8 other first years. Don't worry, we'll all get friendly 🙂

This is (almost) no exaggeration. I live on 42nd and spruce and watch the parade of vet students going to/from class from my windows occasionally (just to laugh at them:laugh:, while I listen to lectures at home). The free backpacks make us easily identifiable (until they break).

You definitely are going to be living in the area of heaviest vet student concentration here.

As for making friends, there are plenty of events before class starts to be thrown in with everyone else who feels the same way. Be sure to sign up for the Intro to food animal orientation the week before classes, go to the Alpha Psi party before classes start, and at orientation, at a minimum you will get to know the other 8-10 people you are randomly assigned to EXTREMELY well. No worries really.

And once class starts, you will get to know the people near you alphabetically because they sit next to you in histology all the time (and some other classes as well), the people in your anatomy group and the ones right next to you, and whomever happens to sit next to you in class all the time.
