What is the schedule like for WSU? Do you get to take electives the first year or is it a set schedule for everyone?

Is anyone here in vet school while also serving their U.S. Army Reserve commitment? If yes, what is it like and what advice would do you have for keeping up with material while going to drill?

Set schedule + electives. WSU is, imo, pretty heavy on large animal material, including electives. We had Spanish, research, and colic team as first semester elective choices.

Spanish elective? Was it learning General spanish or just medical terms?

Coffee pretty much answered it

We have someone in our class that is serving army. They make it work and they work with the school for sure. I know they had to do make up exams which depending when training fell sucked but they're still here and we help fill them in when needed.

I think WSU is pretty balanced lg vs sm since we are a general school particularly core classes. We do have more lg animal electives persay because of things like colic team but theres also things like integrative med for sm animal. Electives generally change by 1 or 2 based on year and who can teach what so it can vary quite a bit. However there are a few that are constant like colic team. You or anyone feel free to message me or ask here if you have more specific questions about army/schedule stuff.

It is more focused on communicating medically to clients about the patient. You use the book Spanish for veterinarians. If you have never taken spanish before its definitely has challenges but is still 100% doable. I really enjoyed it. It gave me a different part of my brain to use and not be in science mode all the time and keep up on my spanish. I took it so if you have further questions please ask!

Okay, At the risk of sounding absolutely insane, do you think they look any different at you if you request a different date to interview. I am so freaked out I don't think my brain is working but I know I have class and some other things going on that day??

Call and ask! They definitely don't change how they look at you because they know other interviews are around then, things happen etc

thank you haha I felt like I knew that but in freaking out I wanted to make sure I was overthinking it in my head!

All i see is a message from October saying “application complete”. For those invited is there a message indicating an invite?

I didn't go on my portal. They sent an email about confirming an interview date and it had a link.

I am having a heckuva time figuring out transport. It looks like my cheapest option is still going to be 350+ car rentals and such. Flying into Spokane and driving from there

You can pay $70 for a round trip ticket on the Wheatland Express. Also Amtrak has a bus line that goes to Spokane airport as well.

I’m going to have to drive - looks like I’m flying in Thursday night and leaving very early sat. Anyone want to carpool with a random stranger? I promise I’m not a serial killer

What about Amtrak? The bus service is Northwest Trailways. It has a later depart time.
I’m only seeing one that day and it’s definitely not late enough. Or early enough for my departure Saturday because I have to get to the airport for 6 AM. I could theoretically go up Friday night and stay locally at a hotel there but the Thursday departure is not working at all. The only option is like 5:15 PM and my flight doesn’t even get in till nine

Were you hoping for a weekend date? WSU does all interviews during the week if that’s what you were hoping to change 🙂 OOS interviews are all during the same week so they may be willing to change to another day during that time if there is an opening, but not a different week or a weekend.

Also Lewiston, ID has an airport it's closer but you would have to rent a car but idk ticket prices

So no email and nothing on portal=rejection?

Edit: my research indicates last year OOS invites were sent out over a period of at least a week. Rejections were sent by snail mail only. No idea if that is true this year or not.
