WesternU c/o 2026

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ALRIGHT, lol I did all the sleuthing in last year's forum so that y'all wouldn't have to, jk I did it more because now I'm anxious about that alternate position. Last year, alternates who were accepted were sent acceptances 4/20 (so right after the mid-April deadline for applicants to accept or rejected their offer that all vet schools have agreed upon), early May, late May, and finally late June. Based on the forum, it seems like there were very few or possibly even no acceptances sent out past June.

Totally just making an educated guess based on the forums (since the APVMA FB page has very little info on WesternU), but it seems like in the past 2 years they've filled up a little less than half to half of their class by 4/15, with a few people making more than 1 deposit if they can't decide between a few schools.

They don't use rankings for alternates, but rather they try to match whoever declines their position with someone from the alternate list. So essentially they pull off people from the alternate list who have similar characteristics and traits.

Also for whatever reason, this seemed to be a really big question from last year (I think people were wondering because it seemed like a lot of people got placed on the alternate list), so in case you were wondering as well, yes, they did send out rejections today as well.

Hope this helps some of you guys, obviously this is a completely different application cycle, so our experience might not be the same as last year's, but this is kind of what I've gathered based on last year's forum.

WOW!!! You are AMAZING!! 😘😘😘

IS ACCEPTED!!! Ya’ll this cycle has been rough after 19 rejections. I may decline my seat if I get pulled from ISU and Msstate waitlist
Damn, props to you though!!! If you don't mind me asking, does this mean you applied to 22 schools this cycle?

Yes, first time applicant and applied to 23. I probably should have applied smarter, but I wanted to increase all my chances of getting in this cycle 😅

Lets see where April takes us on this Waitlist journey!! You did amazing research on this, and I’m hoping we are classmates! 💅

According to your research, it seems like they pull a good amount of folks off the waitlist!

Oh my, I had completed my FAFSA information awhile ago and I just went to check on it and I had actually not submitted it! Everyone double check that your FAFSA has been submitted because today is the last day! (Should have a postmarked date of March 2, 2022).

Last years alternates: if you are not chosen to to be part of the class, do they notify you or do you just not receive an answer from admissions?

I received an official rejection in October. But since I didn't hear anything even after the first day of instruction began I already assumed that I had been rejected.

Do we create our own Class FB group? Or does the university do that for us?
Hello!
I know I've popped in and out of the forum a couple times so let me properly introduce myself! First off congratulations to everybody! I know that wait can be very brutal 😊
My name is Christina but y'all can call me Tina! I am one of the two Co-chairs for the big little committee within SAVMA! Basically we help out with making sure that 1st years have a 2nd year to help guide them through the year. We are in the process of looking to get a group started (we are in the middle of midterms right now 😅). But again congrats 🎉 you'll most likely hear more from me closer to the summer 🙂

Thank you for your input! Ok, that makes sense. I wondered what they did to alternates if they didn’t get chosen, so it’s good to know that they do send out official letters of rejection at some point.

Getting nervous here.... I reached out to my assigned admissions counselor multiple times since January about the status of my application and no response. I just checked my application this morning and no updates. I'm pretty sure I completed all the requirements as everything has been checked off as received by the deadline. Does anyone know who else I can contact about this?

Hello hello! I’m sorry you don’t have any updates yet! You should hear back soon if all your requirements are accompanied by the green check mark. Try contacting Robin Johnson! ☺️ I hope this helps.

I'M CRYING TEARS OF JOY!! I GOT IN!!

Heard back earlier today around 5pm; if the news you were hoping for weren't what you expected, I hope you do try again (this is my second time applying after 2 years of initially applying)
This is also my second time applying after the 2019 cycle and it was a HUGE difference in responses from schools for me. Congratulations! You deserve this. 🎉🙌🏼

If i didn’t receive any email from them, does it mean rejection?

I'm also wondering if maybe there's something going on with their system/tech since it seems like quite a few people haven't received any updates on their portals + a lot of us haven't received any type of email from them despite our portal being updated while other people did receive an email.
