Hey y'all. I have a problem. I've been accepted to some great DO schools and I'm having a really hard time picking which one my top choice is. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

So far I've been accepted to William Carey, ACOM, RVU-Utah, CUSOM, and ATSU-SOMA. I was waitlisted post-interview at KCU. I'm still waiting to hear back from PNWU after interviewing there last week. I really liked ACOM, RVU-Utah, CUSOM, and KCU. I've heard mixed things about William Carey so they aren't high on my list right now and I wasn't impressed by PNWU's location. So I guess I'm deciding between ACOM, RVU-Utah, CUSOM, and KCU. I have a few weeks to decide (some of these schools require a deposit by November 15). I know I'm waitlisted at KCU, but would it be wise to send them a letter of intent if they are my top choice, or is it too early in the game to consider that right now? I've also accepted the fact that I may end up losing a ~$2k deposit for a better school down the road, but that's unfortunately the reality with this whole process. I'm okay with that if it means getting into a school that's a better fit for me.

Here are some important tid-bits of info:

-I'm a California resident and would like to stay close to home, however, if it means getting a great medical education I have no problem going far away.
-I'm not sure what specialty I want to go into. I know a lot of DO schools focus on primary care, and that's definitely a viable option for me, but I'm also interested in some of the more competitive residencies like orthopedic surgery (yes, I know its much more difficult for a DO to get into one of these residencies, but if that's the route I decide to take, I'm 100% willing to put the time and effort to get there). Gastroenterology is also very enticing to me.
-Cost of tuition and cost of living is also something to consider for me, but they aren't dealbreakers.
-Getting the best medical education possible and doing well on COMLEX are my priorities, but it would also be nice to go to a school that's in a decent location with some fun activities going on for the few moments I have free time.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would disregard WCU for lots of reasons (ask @Goro about that lol). Then my rank would have been KCU>RVU>CUSOM>ATSU-SOMA=ACOM

I agree with this list, but would rank ACOM > CUSOM > ATSU/SOMA. I am not a fan of how ATSU/SOMA handles their clinical education. CUSOM has required lecture attendance, which is a 19th Century teaching philosophy.

Let's just say I'm a little bias towards CUSOM because of their 100% placement rate every year, and I don't mind mandatory lecture attendance because I would be going to class every day anyway mandatory or not. But yeah, if OP don't like that, then I guess it could be a factor to consider.

If you're bias towards CUSOM then why did you rank KCU and RVU-Utah above them? Just curious

Because these schools will get you to the [best] residency programs you can get as a DO. Just to keep your options a little open.
