Keep chilling. It's not our time yet. I'm hoping you can at least pretend to have a sense of humor throughout the weeks ahead. Here's the subject line of the email I received today:
~*~ONE MONTH FREE ON SELECT UNITS AT THE KENNEDY~*~
My response:
I would sign a lease now only if I could cancel without penalty if not accepted.
I know it was a waste of time to send that, but it made me feel better. Why would a rental company offer one month's free rent? Because they are trying to fill vacancies. Why is that? Because of us!
Let's talk about living instead of fretting. Here's a survival guide in case we come off of the waiting list in the manner we're hoping:
I want to live at The Kennedy to minimize wasted time. Roll out of bed, walk across the street, done! I'm assuming some of you aren't from Texas. That means you might not be familiar with HEB grocery stores. The nearest one is at 3323 SE Military Dr. It's 1.6 miles from The Kennedy, about a 7-minute drive. They have a good, prepared foods section if you're in a hurry. They have curbside pickup and delivery options available. Across the street from HEB to the south is Chick-fil-A. Walmart and Sam's are close, just a little south of Chick-fil-A. Best Buy and Home Depot are near HEB to the west.
Sadly, going to Costco, either to the west or to the north, is a half-hour drive. Whole Foods is almost a half-hour to the north.
If you're from out of state and want to get a Texas license, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DMV) is about 7 minutes north of UIWSOM.
If you're driving to San Antonio from far away, you'll want to stop at Buc-ee's. If you don't know what Buc-ee's is, that's a post for another day. I doubt a survival guide is complete without Buc-ee's.
