WSU/USU c/o 2018 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Look forward to meeting you and the other current USU students, Abney! Any advice on the USU interview??
Same as I give for any vet school interview.

1. Practice. Look up questions here and google. Use them to have a pool of responses you can draw from so you're not caught unaware on too many questions. And practice with someone so they can point out stuttering, fidgeting and circular talking.
2. DO NOT tell them what you think they want you hear. Sounds easy but can be really hard lol. They want to know who YOU are! And don't be afraid to say you don't know something. You're going to vet school to learn after all. 🙂
3. Be YOU! That's another one that sounds easy but can be difficult. You're the only you out there so show them what makes you great! They already want you, just remind them why!
4. It's ok to pause. Take a breath. Organize your thoughts. Don't be too hasty. 🙂

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

thank you -- such good advice! #2 and #3 can definitely be challenging

Great advice, Abney! Thank you. Can't wait to meet 🙂

Nope not yet, although my anxiety level has increased now...
I'm OOS (Cali resident) and last name that starts with W, lol I'm expecting to be at the end of the mailing list!

I'm OOS and my last name starts with "Ac". I haven't heard anything either, but I'm also in NY state so snail mail may take longer.

Pretty sure the postal carrier out here has some personal vendetta against me, but no matter, saw on my application status page that an interview was in fact offered!:soexcited:Do the happy dance!

CONGRATS!

congrats!!!
hey are you out of state? or in state? (utah or WA)

I am choice number 3; I'm an Idaho resident. Soo I'm guessing I'll be there around jan 16-17 (according to their website) but won't know for sure until I get my letter

Ugh this all makes me so nervous! No change to my portal -- just says "Pending" -- but I am an OOS applicant so I'm trying not to worry too much! Dydrmr01, congrats on your interview! That is fantastic.

Dydrmr01 if you don't mind me asking, what tier are you in?

sweet. acceptance letter. now the task of staying motivated through finals...

oh and what portal are you guys referring to? i don't have the letter on me but was there a link? or was it the page where we logged in to the supplemental?

Wow, Anesthtc! You beat us all to it! Accepted without interview? Are you a WICHE student?? What state are you from? Awesome for you! Congrats!!

I actually had the same question as you and just assumed that the 'portal' that everyone was referring to for WSU is the completed supplemental form that stated where your application was in the process. In my case, even though I was granted an interview, the supplemental form still states 'pending' (unlike our ID Dydrmr01 friend above), so I wouldn't trust the 'portal' as an official source of info, I'd wait for the letters.

Congrats to you (on your acceptance), and to Dydrmr01, on your ID interview! Hope to see you both next year as part of the WIMU Class of 2018!!

Do I see the status under the Application status tab? Mine says they haven't even started with mine 🙁🙁🙁🙁

So I think I might be in tier 1, although I have criteria for tier I or II, so not sure on that one. I checked my application status tab on the application yesterday and that is where it said offered interview. I still haven't gotten my letter (but live pretty rural so not 100% surprised). Also under the transcript tab it said 'bring transcripts to interview'. That is how I found out last year too (before the letter got here) but they also sent out emails last year ahead of the letters so guess they're changing things up this year.

Thanks! And yea I'm a WICHE student.

I don't know how much faith I would put in the portal. I just logged in for mine and it still says "pending" under application status. I suppose if it says "invited for interview", that's probably a good sign. But if it's stuck at "pending" I wouldn't read much into it.

Awesome! Congrats to everyone with interview invites! 😀

Congrats everyone!! That is so fantastic! My status hasn't changed but I'm trying not to worry yet

hey guys who got interviews, were you all teir one? just trying to see if they are going from tier 1 to tier 3 in terms of sending out invite waves....

and CONGRATS!!!!!!!!😉

yeah i was wondering that too which tier all of you interview invites are in? there must be some order of how they are updating the status pages

agh seems we might have found the order, maybe they are sending out all the tier 1 invites first because most of them get invites?

Apparently so does mine. I just checked on a whim after seeing your post and I have an interview as well!!! (OOS- New York)

Are there any IS ppl out there who've received letters?
I think I read the IS interviews will be held last, so they'll probably send out IS letters last too. Reading all the good news from you OOS'ers has got me excited!

I was trying to figure out what tier I'm in and calculated my gpas myself if only they could just round up my cumulative is a 3.48 and you need a 3.5 for tier1 and my science is a 3.67 and you need a 3.7 for tier 1 just so close! 🙁

Guys don't stress too much about your tier. They'll send out another wave of invites I'm sure. WSU is one of those schools that REALLY looks at everything. I know I know I know how much easier said than done this is but try not to stress.

I am IS and according to my application have been offered an interview, however I have not gotten my letter yet. A friend of mine, however, who is IS got her rejection letter last week, so figured the interview invites would have gone out at the same time but it doesn't appear that is the case.

CONGRATS! Yea, I guess they have huge heaps of applications to go through, must be inviting and rejecting in waves as they go.

Guys, I wouldn't worry too much about tier. I was tier 1 and got rejected (OOS). Picture a giant dart board...

I believe I'm tier one, I'm pretty borderline tier 1 and 2...based on GPA. But I have 3,000+ hours at large animal surgical hospital, I'm thinking that May have bumped me up into 1? I seriously can't believe I got an interview, first school I've heard from!!! Hang in there guys, my friend who is also a Cali resident and GPA just like mine hasn't had her status change yet. I'm still waiting on my letter though!! 🤣

For Tier 1, you only need one of the criteria, right? (GPA or sci GPA or GRE). I fit tier 1 by my GRE scores only, so does that make me tier 1?

Yay! I got an interview but I haven't gotten the letter yet to find out when it is. I got an email from Kansas this morning too.

Btw...anyone know what type of interviews WSU does? I haven't looked into it yet, figured I'd just ask ya'll!

My interview last year was with 2 faculty members and it was a solo interview. I think it lasted about 15min or so. They asked me a few general questions, gave me a question specific to what my experience was (I have a lot of equine and livestock experience so they asked me about the horse slaughter ban) but nothing really specific to my application per say. And I think they interviewed about 150 people last year, and from what I understood waitlisted anyone that they did not accept

Thanks for the insight, Dydrmr01. Best of success this year! Hope to see you in the WIMU Class of 2018!

Do y'all think that if our portal isn't updated and if we haven't heard anything that it is bad news? I'm a tier I applicant but haven't heard anything. I'm studying for finals so naturally I just freak out about this instead

Awesome thanks guys, I think open interview stresses me out a bit more than situational/mmi, I usually talk too fast or speak too soon and say like way to much....California girl born and raised! Hahahahaha 😉 But I'll be fine if I practice and don't stress!! Ha!!

They are SUPER nice at WSU. Don't stress about your interviews. Like I said, make sure to practice so you're not caught off guard and in front of other people so they can critic you. And don't worry about being perfect. They aren't looking for perfect.

I believe that's how it works. I only meet tier 1 by my GPA and the quant scores of my GRE. Is there anywhere that they list specifically what tier you are in?

Got my official interview offer letter today!!! Snail mail 12/6. Interview 1/17!!

Congrats! I'm OOS too so I guess we'll see if we'll actually meet once my letter comes in. I'm in Arizona so not too far from you.

Got my mail today! My interview is scheduled for the 17th. Interesting that they automatically assign you to a date/time.

For those curious, interview dates are on the 13-17th. You have to email your response by January 3 whether or not you plan on attending the interview. If you don't, your date gets cancelled.

Out of the 3 interviews I have been offered so far, the date and time were already predetermined. I'm not sure if that's the norm or the exception though

I got an interview for WSU but not quite sure if I should keep it. I have heard Pullman is in the middle of nowhere. Any suggestions?
