First, thanks for reading this! I know it is long.
I am pretty set on FM. I love it to death. I also really love women‘s health. While I would love the added bonus of delivering babies, until I get closer to finishing medical school, I’m not sure if I want to dedicate so much of my time to OB...
I'm doing internship in Europe at the moment and I'll need to pick a specialty in April.
The thing is, that I am completely lost and can't put my finger on what to pick. I find bad sides to every specialty when I think about it and because there are so many choices I have analysis paralysis...
I'm an M1 at a lower mid-tier school with pass/fail with internal rankings (which determine adjectives on Dean's letter to residency). I score pretty consistently in the low-mid 80%s on exams, which I would feel pretty good about given the pass/fail situation, except for the fact that the class...
Hello SDN
I'd like to know. Can anybody here with any special insight on this, explain exactly how a candidate ends up on a Do Not Rank List? Does any faculty members, Program Directors or current residents have an specific vivid examples? If so drop them here so the masses can learn what not...
Hello, I'm new here. I will be graduating med school July 2022. I am a US-IMG looking to match into Gen Surgery or Urology Residency in the US (goal is in Texas). I understand matching is very competitive for IMGs. After looking at the requirements, most programs require 3 Letter of...

Hello SDN Member,
I'd like to ask; Are there any members of this community that have gone to nursing or PA school after medical school? Please Comment below and Share your experiences with us?
Also I'd like to ask. If you do go to mid-level school after going to medical school, what are you...
Me three days ago: “there’s no way I’m going to do a residency, I’m already so tired and ready to go into practice”
Me on October 1st: “I should do a residency”
Is this a mistake? Probably, but this could be fun.
Hello folks,
I am about to attend a dental school that uses P/F in addition to being rank-less. I understand it is early to think about this, but what is the process with matching into a program without those two metrics? Is taking the ADAT a must for schools like that?
I am super interested...
Hello,
Where can I find an accurate and updated list of only the 3 year long EM residencies to help with my ERAS application? There does not seem to be a way to filter out the 4 year long EM programs on MyERAS or FREIDA. The SAEM lists are not accurate or updated.
Thanks!
Current EM resident in southeast US. Non-trad, military, etc. Ask me anything here or on IG, under same name. I check IG daily and will answer via comment or video.
Cheers 🍻

Hi everyone,
I've been lucky (IMO) to be tasked with writing my own LoR for a surgeon I've worked closely with throughout medical school, mainly in a research capacity but a few cases in the OR. My main question is what do PDs/reviewers like to see in these letters?
I'm planning on hitting...
Hi future colleagues (hopefully).
I am a 3rd yr DO student who has had a terrible experience with medical school thus far. Ive been pretty dead set on doing peds but now worry that my chances are slipping through my fingers, if not already gone. What are the chances for a student with 1...
Hi everyone,
As I have previously posted, I'm interested in pursuing a second residency in Emergency Medicine. I completed an Internal Medicine residency in 2017 and I have been working as a hospitalist since then. I'm ABIM board certified. Although the hospitalist gig has been good to me...
I have been with my fiancé for 6 years. He’s in his second year of gen surgery residency. I moved with him a couple of months ago and found out he has cheated not only once but throughout the whole relationship with different women. He blames it on the stress his career has caused him. Not only...
Fresh MS2 here - I keep hearing M4's (and some M3's) saying to not worry about being unsure of a speciality choice. However, I know there are certain fields that would definitely prefer to see speciality-specific research going into residency (from what i hear some (not all) include...
I am a second year FM resident in Ohio and planning on practicing in a rural ohio town. I'm planning on doing colonoscopies there as well...the FM doc who is there now is retiring. Does anyone know of any good physicians either in or around ohio that would teach and have taught endoscopy to FM...
Hi there! I am very interested in neurology and I'm wondering what sort of programs I can be competitive for. I just have no idea what to expect honestly.
I am a 3rd year DO student. So far, my application includes:
Step 1 - 233
COMLEX 1 - 610
Other -
Founder/President of club (non-neuro)...
Hi! Is anyone that has started his or her GPR/AEGD residency aware of any unfilled seats in the program?
There isn’t an official list posted anywhere, and emailing program directors has proven to be ineffective to. Thanks in advance!
Some physician graduates have been urged to complete Step 3 before applying for internship or residency but is Step 3 going away?
Since USMLE Step 2 CS has been discontinued, should USMLE Step 3 be the next board exam to be discontinued?

Just started studying for step 3 and hoping to take it by end of the month since I'm on a relatively easy rotation in my residency program. Based on my past step scores (264 step 1, 275 step 2), how long do I realistically need to study for step 3? My thought was to spend most of my prep time...
Incoming MS1.
Apologies in advance if this post sounds neurotic since I am asking for advice pretty early in the process. I was a really low-performing student (~2 GPA) in HS, and would not have made it into a medical school without doing research before ugrad started.
Hoping to gain some...
There aren’t many discussions on this speciality. What do I need to do to get into dental anesthesiology? What kind of GPA and ranking are considered as competitive?
Hi everyone, I haven't been able to find much relevant advice for my specific situation, especially given COVID changes to the residency application process, so I thought I would ask here.
I'm planning on applying to a small surgical subspecialty this year but unfortunately, my med school is a...
Has anyone ever used residency placement services like Mededits? It seems they only give consultation for hundreds of dollars. Has anyone got matched through them?
Seeking recommendations re: submitting "waived/unseen" LORs for off-cycle positions through non-traditional avenues (e.g. not ERAS/NRMP).
Advertising vacancies do not note this requirement + ResidentSwap et al do not offer concrete suggestions/means for this...
Would love to hear your success...
Hi guys,
IMG applying for General Surgery, didn’t match this past cycle. I planned to take (and pass) Step 3 before Match day, but ended up failing (Score 197). I took Step 3 again and I’m currently waiting for the score report. I am trying to prepare for next cycle and be smart(er).
UPDATE: I...
Hey guys,
Need thoughts. I only took COMLEX 1 (~600), no step 1. I really loved child psych, peds, and FM rotations.
-FM: Love that you can build relationships with adults and kids over time. Don't want to do many procedures or manage HTN and DM all day though...Long hours/exhausting? Some...

Hi all,
I'm a 3rd year osteopathic medical student who fell in love with Internal Medicine as a field but did not do so hot on COMLEX 1 and Step 1.
COMLEX 1 = 480
Step 1 = 204
I know these are not solid scores, but I want to do IM and ideally in a bigger city. I have no interest in pursuing...
(Yes I'm aware there's a WAMC superthread. It hasn't been posted to in months)
M3 from the Deep South. Definitely want to get out of the Southeast and have family friends in LA. Loved the area ever since I was a kid and want to go out there for my career.
Step 1: 239
Clerkship grades: All...
Hey all! Planning on applying ophtho in '21-'22, but I'm without a home program at a mid-to-low tier school in the southeast. It's been hard to spend much time outside of a few days shadowing here and there, especially with the pandemic. So I figured to bring a few questions to the table here...
