Hey guys,
I interviewed at Loyola during the first week of March and was told outright by my second interviewer that I was auditioning for a spot on the waiting list, as the number of direct acceptances remaining was "negligible." However, he said that Loyola typically fills anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 of its class from the waiting list, which is why the school continues to conduct interviews through the end of April. Hope that helps.

I called the admissions office and they said they are interviewing BOTH for direct offers and spots on the waitlist. I asked if that meant that people who were going to interview in this remaining part of the season could be offered a position and she said yes. So I guess there aren't many spots directly offered, but still a chance.....

Thanks Raaska55; I very much want to be heading to Loyola this summer so the hope remains.

I called the admissions office today and they said I have been "flagged" for review- anyone have any success getting an interview after being flagged?

I too have been flagged....I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can at least get a shot at a wait list position

they are still "flagging" people this late? I've called pretty much every month since october...and they've told me that every time...

hope we get lucky!

Does anyone know exactly how close the blue line stop is to the school? Are we talking like a two second walk, a ten minute walk, or more?

interviewed today, LOVED the school. i almost hate myself for going. now my decision is going to be much much harder if i get in.

Yep they are still flagging people. Two weeks ago is the first time I was told I was flagged. This week they just said there's been no change in my status.

i called a few weeks ago and they told me the same thing. they also said that if i didn't hear anything by the end of march, i should call them back. i thought this meant that they would have an adcom meeting this past week to decide on their final batch of interviewees. but, if people have just been flagged this week, maybe they are extending the interview season. i'm feeling pretty stupid that i didn't send them an update letter this month (i think that's what got me off my hold at RFU).

Does anyone know an estimate for about how long people wait after their interview until a decision is made?

I wouldn't recommend walking from the blue line unless the weather's nice and you're in comfortable clothes -- it's about 2.5 miles (check out Google maps). If you're dead-set on taking public transportation, there's a Pace bus that connects the blue line stop with the medical center campus.

Some students bike to school, but the overwhelming majority have cars. If you're coming for an interview, public transportation would get the job done, but if you're coming to school at Loyola, driving is the more dependable option. 🙂

I think the committee is meeting on Monday (30th) and will contact people at some point after that. So hopefully those who have interviewed this month will find out this upcoming week.

well, my interview is on April 8th... so I was asking for a general estimate... like 4-5 weeks, maybe???

Now that this cycle is starting to wind down, I think the admissions committee is trying to turn over applications pretty fast. I interviewed on March 5th and was told I'd be reviewed at the following week's adcom meeting (March 9th). Sure enough, I got a letter in the mail on the 13th. When you hear back probably just depends on the timing of the next committee meeting, but I would say you'll hear something back in no more than 4 weeks.

Loyola seems to have a pretty fast turn-around (another plus about this school!). I found out the very next week, but I think that was lucky due to timing of committee meetings. I don't think they'll make you wait longer than four weeks -- and personally, I think it will be much quicker than that.

Good luck! Interview day at Loyola seems to be a love at first sight experience for many, so have fun 🙂

I think generally the admissions committee meets about once a month, so I would imagine 4-5 weeks at most is probably accurate. I heard back in about two weeks since I interviewed at the end of Feb. and the decision on my application was made at the March 9 meeting.

When you're at Loyola, talk to Dean Jones--he's a great guy to just say hello to. He's also the one who told me when the next committee meeting was (and thus when a decision would be made on my application).

Good luck shan0722!

Thanks guys! You are all very helpful.

I hope to prepare as much as I can so that I can really stand out (in a good way) and secure my spot!
; )

Hey everyone,

Just got a call from Dr. Muraskas, and it looks like I've been accepted. Best of luck to the rest of you.

Congrats bndbckhmlvr768 :claps:!

Hopefully they didn't make all of the calls today and there's one for me tomorrow. :xf:

Anyone call today who has been "flagged" and find out anything?

Anyone call today who has been "flagged" and find out anything?

i just called, and this is basically the conversation i had.

me: "hi, id like to check the status of my application"
secretary: "whats your name?"
me: "chief illiniwek"
secretary: "no decision has been made yet. the interview season runs until the end of april, so if you will be granted an interview, we will let you know within the next couple weeks."
me: "is it too late to send an update?"
secretary: "im not sure. are you still interested in loyola?"
me: "yes...yes, definitely."
secretary: "ok, ill let the admissions committee know."
me: "thanks. bye."

ill be putting an update in the mail within the hour...

I just called and was informed that I am under final review and will be notified within two weeks. I would send another update letter, but I really don't have anything else to tell them...

yeah, i just sent them an update by e-mail. it was a similar letter to the one that got me my only acceptance, so hopefully it will work some magic at stritch and pull me a late interview. :xf:
but i'm still kicking myself for not sending it like a month ago.

I don't know if there is really any chance of an interview, but I would love it. Otherwise I'm headed to Saint George's :-/

I called today and got a similar response. Just reject me already! I've been complete for almost 6 months! This is absurd!

Does anyone know the e-mail address for the admissions office?

Hey everyone. I have an upcoming interview on April 15th. Does anyone know if I'll be interviewing for a waitlist spot or an actual seat in the class? I called the office this morning but no one picked up. Thanks.

Does anyone know how Loyola sends out their post interview decisions? I believe that the committee met on Monday; and I know that they call with acceptances. I did miss two calls from the same unknown number but the area code is not correct. It's a heart transplant center in Minneapolis, no idea what they are calling me about. So I'm awaiting to hear whta my decision was. I'm guessing its snail mail, but how is the time frame I should expect?

I was called the evening of the admissions committee meeting around 7:00, and received a letter about a week later.

Thanks.

I believe that you're only suppose to call and get a status check on Thursday, right? Would a call today to find out what my decision was/is be ill-received?

There are definitely spots available, but like most schools, the number is much smaller compared to earlier in the year.

Well finally got a decision in the mail on Saturday...Alternate. Here's hoping for a lot of movement come May 15th.

last interview date (according to admissions) is April 24 :xf:

Good luck to everyone who is waiting for an interview/to hear back/going to interview soon.

I had my interview late March and I am hoping for some good news. This was an excellent school. It really impressed me all around.

I just called and I'm still up for one more review in the next week. They said there are still some interviews but if you're not offered one by 4/17 then you're rejected and you'll get a letter in the mail. bah.

I wonder how many of us they are still seriously considering, and how many interview slots are still open....

How did you find out you are up for one more review?

Just called Loyola, "my application has been reviewed, and at this point, no interview was suggested"

well, thats a nice way of saying, sorry, REJECTED

I'm in the same boat as you- called earlier. Let's hope there's a few more interviews out there. I too am an NCAA athlete- let's hope we can reprsent athletes in med school (I checked your MDapps). I am waitlisted at a school and waiting to hear from another post-interview, one more interview would really help me get some sleep....

Hey fellow NCAA athletes 🙂 I called and got the same reply, one more review. :xf: What sport did you guys play? I threw javelin for Track and field.

I know for sure the committee is meeting today... and I'm going crazy!!!!! I'm keeping for fingers crossed for a phone call this evening!!!!:xf:

Is this the infamous "final review" that we're under?

at least I am westcoast so my waiting is 2 hrs shorter...haha...I know that's faulty reasoning but I am sticking to it 😀

Good luck to you all--I hope you all get a nice phone call! :luck:

How long is the commute from say, Wicker Park, to the medical school campus during no traffic, like 10 to 15 minutes right?
