yeah, that is the only question.👍

This secondary is funny. The part where they make us "rank" the statements which best describe our interest in medicine reminds me of those "questionnaires" companies like Walmart or whatever use to try to screen out applicants. "Would you ever steal if you thought you could get away with it?" Gee...

decided to add this school at the last minute. cant wait to get the secondary!

Just got my completion email from Meharry
They said it could take up to 8 weeks

I also got my completion of app email from Meharry today. Hopefully it won't take the full 8 weeks.

Anything lately?

Thanks BlackDr2b! It looks like we've applied to a few of the same schools. good luck to you too.

It does look that way. Maybe we will end up classmates! Who knows we shall see what the good Lord has in store for us!

Hey everyone, for anyone who has gotten interviews, how long after being complete did it take? Also, does anyone know how many caucasian people get in? I really want to do child psych in underserved areas so thats why the school is so appaealing to me.
Thanks!

welcome aboard!!! :luck:

Hi everyone! I am interested in applying to Meharry next year. What were your pre-med grades like, and how did you score on the MCAT? Did anybody do a post-bacc program? How was the process of getting letters of recommendation?

Good luck on those secondaries!!!!!

hey everyone,

does meharry screen? i am trying to figure out if i should start on the secondary before being invited to fill it out.....how long after you all completed your primary did meharry send out your secondary invitations? thanks in advance!!

Yes, they screen (or so I've been told). I started filling out the secondary and then realized that they screened so I stopped. Then like a week or two later I received an email that said "Meharry Medical College is pleased that you are in the process of completing this Supplemental Application. Further processing of your application will be based on completion of the following:" (basically telling me all of the things I needed to do to finish my application)

So they obviously knew I started without being invited to do so, hopefully they won't hold it against me for being eager to apply to their school.

Meharry does screen. I think this is the first year they screened, I think. I got an email saying the got my primary and that after initial screening they would decide if I got a secondary or not, which I did get. I sent in my primary in june and I got the Meharry secondary in mid july or august, I believe. God bless!

thanks 4health and blackdr2b!!!
i guess that means more waiting for me....sigh....

How long does it take to receive the secondary application after receiving the acknowledgment email from Meharry? I'm kind of worried here because it's been more than a week that I got the email and I haven't heard anything from them yet. Maybe I'm just being screened out because of my super low Mcat :O

how long did it take to get a complete e-mail? I submitted my secondary on 9/9 and I haven't heard anything... is there a status page we can check?

Did you get an email after submitting you secondary that started with "This e-mail is to inform you that Meharry Medical College has received your Supplemental Application from CollegeNet"?

It took about 10 days between adding them to AMCAS and receiving the secondary invite. It was about 3 days from adding them to AMCAS to receiving notice that I would receive further notice after initial review of my application had been completed.

yes

i just got the e-mail acknowledging receipt of my primary application.....i am praying i get past the screen and receive a secondary!!!! 🙄

Guys and gals,

I just noticed that when I logged out of the secondary application site for Meharry, the following page shows my recent activity with Morehouse School of Medicine. I assume these two schools are sharing the same online application server, but do you think it's possible that Meharry will see what I wrote for Morehouse?

May be a lame questions, but just curious.

Thanks and good luck this cycle to everyone.

No, they cannot see what you wrote for Morehouse because that is against the law.

Hey Guys I am applying to both Meharry and Howard. I am terrified that I won't get in. This is why it took me seven years to apply. So I got that stupid e-mail stating that they receive my primary application. I thought I accidentally erased their e-mail so I submitted the secondary application anyways prior to receiving that e-mail and realizing that they screen applicants.

Did anybody get into meharry with a 21 on their MCAT, 3.61 Science GPA and 3.60 total GPA. I am also getting a PhD from Yale so I don't know where I stand. My situation is different from all you guys. I did retake it the MCAT but I think I did worst. I won't get the score till October 12. I got so nervous before the exam and had insomia for 48 hours straight. I took pills to sleep and could not fall asleep.

I need a miracle. In College I saw people with 30 on their MCAT and 4.00GPA could not get into medical school. And that was when you could only take the MCAT three time or you have to go through lots of BS. I did not think I stood a chance then. But now I think I made a mistake since the MCAT score required were actually lower for schools like Meharry and Howard.

O Jesus Help me please. I really want to practice medicine this is my dream.

I have been reading the blogs for so many years and that did not help. How do you get a 35 on the MCAT and 4.00 GPA and not get into one of the 14 medical schools. Stuff like that scares me. Me with my little 21 on the MCAT where do I stand?

.I do have a question about the English requirement at Meharry. Particularly, does Meharry accept writing intensive literature course from a department other than English department as equivalent substitute for either the required English composition or literature class?

Thanks

.

You just have to ace your interiew provided you get one. I have a 28S and a 3.24 gpa but my bcpm is 2.95 or 3.0 or something like that. I got 2 MD interviews at Morehouse and FIU. You're gonna have a PHD and you've got a good gpa. Just make sure the schools accept that MCAT score and rock your interview. Lots of schools look at more than just the scores so as long as you have a lot of other good stuff to emphasize you will do ok. good luck.

Thank You for the courageous words. Let's see if I get one interview somewhere.

Best of luck. The truth of the matter is that there is no magic formula and every year medical schools pick people that they shouldn't be picking "based on the numbers." SDN happens to be really hung up on numbers but in reality I don't think that's always true. (take a look at my mdapps for proof) If you have a strong enough personal story and really make your case you can convince schools to give you a shot (which makes an interview that much more important). That being said, you also have to be realistic too. Are you an URM? Meharry does have a lower MCAT avg but they accept mostly URM students. What was your MCAT breakdown? Being below a 27 is risky when apply to med schools (myself included). That doesn't mean it can't be done but you should give it your best shot but prepare to retake the MCAT if it doesn't work out this year. Getting your pHD will help for your story to make you more interesting but it won't make up for stats. As far as I know ADCOMs don't really include grad degrees in order to make it an even playing field. Best of luck. If this your dream than don't give up and do whatever you have to do to reach it!

6. Have you adequate financial resources to attend medical school?
Yes No

Um, can I pay for this myself ugh- no, so no?. Will/Can I take on a crap load of debt - yes. So yes?

Does it matter?

I have been truly blessed with the interviews invite. If u have faith in God,anything is possible.
It was completed like a month ago and the invite came today.
Any one previously interview here, want to help me about hotel accommodations other than maxwell house and the whole process day at the school.
Any insight or comment will truly help. Thanks in advance
Good Luck All with the rest of the cycle

Congrats to the both of you. Hopefully some good news will be headed my way! God bless!

Yeah, I am URM. But I will wait and see what happened to me.

i am wondering the same thing about this question......i don't think anyone (maybe a finite few) can afford medical school without the help of loans/scholarships, however are they asking if we have the ability to obtain and pay off loans? For those of you who have finished their secondary, any input on how you filled out this question would be great. thanks!!!

Even though I dont have the cash to pay upfront, I said yes because that is what loans are for. Who knows what they want, but I surely didn't want them to think I wasn't capable of paying for the school at all.
