what's the deal with this "Statement of Intent to Register" form??? It has two check-boxes....one that says "I intend to matriculate at UCI..." and another that says "Please withdraw my app..."

I'm in noooooo way ready to decide on a med school and I certainly don't want to somehow have my other offers dropped.

Did all of you accepted students just check the "matriculate" box and mail it back in?

Thats the way it is with all med schools - you should have had something like this for other schools. They want you to accept the offer - but you can accept as many offers as you like until May 15. By the 15th you need to withdraw from all schools but one.

ahhh thanks for the response.....i've just never seen it worded this strongly before

When is the latest that interviews are offered though?

I interviewed the last day my year (uhh 2007?) and got the invite about a month before. But a guy there that day had called in the day before and been invited.

So it varies...

Called in? What do you mean?

So if you got invited one month before the last interview day then that's some time in the end of March. That means hope is still alive for me. I've been pending review since August. It just makes no sense why I interviewed at UCSF months ago but no invite from Irvine -- and Irvine is my top choice! So frustrating.

So, for those who are waitlisted, how do they notify us when we have been taken off of the waitlist and accepted? Phone call, email, letter...???

My application was complete in the middle of October and my status still says "Pending Review."

Should I send a letter of interest/update now or should I wait a while and then appeal the possible rejection?

just went back on the website and read a bunch of stuff... is it really true that irvine only sends out about 1500 secondaries?? that's something like only 20-30% of people receiving them?

Yeah only about 1500 but they used to only receive about 3000-4000 apps so it was only a little under 50%. Not sure what the numbers are these days.

thats how it is at most (if not all) of the UC schools. The only one i'm not too sure about is Davis, but if I had to guess I'd say they prescreen for secondary invites too. All of the other UCs do.

yeah i know they all do, i just thought at first that each school had about 10,000 applicants also, considering CA's size, so giving out 1,500 secondaries seemed like a stringent screen.

I've seen a few people wondering about the "pending review" for months. Just to let you know, I was complete 7/19 and only received a secondary ~2 weeks ago. Guess Irvine does things differently than most schools, but don't give up hope!

oohhh, haha. Yea. There aren't nearly that many applicants.

congrats! yeah i'm in that category right now. it's driving me nuts... i wonder if it's really that im' not bad enough to reject but not good enough to interview yet... or that they're just messing w/ me and going to silent reject =(

does anyone know how often the adcom at UCI meets to decide on interviews? is it a mass spurt of email invites?

they only have like two interview days a month, with about 40 applicants each day. So you can kind of make a guestimate about how ofthen they meet to decide interviews.

So...for those of you who interviewed Feb 9th (or earlier)...my status was changed to the alternate list on March 2nd (Really fast turnaround)! Soo..yeah check if you're curious I guess and haven't received a phone call. (They didn't notify me beyond the status change on the website)

Yah, I interviewed on Feb 9th and received a phone call from the Dean last night saying I was accepted!! I thought I wouldn't hear back until the end of March! UCI is on top of things, that's for sure 👍

How much a of a difference does it make to stay with a student host? Since I'm flying in from out of town, I was planning to stay with a friend I haven't seen for a while. Should I stay with her, or should I ask them for a student host instead? Will it make a difference come decision time?

i have a quick question for those who received interview invites, did any of you apply before you hit the 90 semester units or 135 quarter units?

I'm wondering whether to apply next year before I hit 135 units (I'll have 127) is a good idea.

Thanks!

No difference when it comes to decision time. The nice thing about a student host is they can answer questions for you.

Good luck.

OMG!!!!! Interview from Irvine!!!! I love my alma mater! Irvine for 4 more years! There is still hope guys, 2 interview dates left. Can anyone who has gotten in give some advice please? I really want to kill this interview.

Has anyone been waitlisted after 2 weeks post-interview to UCI?

Wasn't expecting it since they said decisions should be available after 4-5 weeks post-interview.

Yeah, I got waitlisted too....bummer.

Yeah, I got waitlisted too....bummer.

The Waitlist moves REALLLLLY WELL. Just keep sending in letters of interest and you'll probably get in. Truthfully, most of our class came in off the waitlist or late in the year.

Sweet. Thanks for the advice!

Ok so I'm an X-UCI kid. And I applied to UCI SOM for 2009. My secondary status online says "Denied" so I perty much gave up hope for UCI.

Then this morning I went to print some transcripts and they asked me to select my ID number. I suddenly have a UCI Med School ID number...what if anything does this mean??

Does anyone know? I'd appreciate any help or insights. Thanks guys and gals.

What do you mean Med school ID number? What do you mean made you select your ID number?

These aren't things I had to do when I got interviewed/accepted so I'm not sure what you're referring to. Ultimately you can call the office and ask - I doubt anyone here will really know for sure.

Just curious, did you interview on February 24th? If so, they made decisions REALLY quickly!

I don't mean to be a buzzkill, but I think if you open the status check web page for UCI SOM, everyone has an ID number. I'm assuming that that is what you are talking about.

i was put on the alternatelist yesterday..wat a bummer!!! interviewed on Feb 24th...

just relax! have fun. it as the chillest interview expereince that i had and i loved it. If you have any specific quesitons you can PM me. I'd be glad to share my experiences.

yes, UCI tends to waitlist pepole pretty quickly after interviews. I have noticed it since the beginning of the cycle and its been the same the entire year. They update your status page to "waitlisted" a few weeks after interview if you are in fact waitlisted. If you are NOT waitlisted (ie accepte) then they don't update your status page at all, they just give you a phone call at about 4-5 weeks post interview. So, for others who have interviewed the same day as you, if your status page is still unchanged it is probably good news. Don't bank on this as it is just my theory based on what i have noticed, but it has held true the entire year (since i noticed in like early october). So yea, sorry about the waitlist. I remember dr peterson mentioning that they take most of the class from the waitlist tho (about 2/3) so i think you can be hopefully optimistic? She also said that letter of intents help a great deal. Let them know you are interested in them and it will help you in the end. Good luck!

Yeah so I listened to your guys' advice and called today. The admissions lady was baffled that somehow I got an ID. She said I wasn't supposed to have one. lol I think it was some big mix up. Someone's got the crazies there.

Anyways, congrats to everyone who got secondaries, and interviews and acceptances! I'm sure you will all love it.

Best,

gandhic541

Ermm no that's not what I'm talking about. I got an actual Student ID number which stated my school was: "medicine" and my major was "medicine" on student access.

woot! complete since oct and just got an interview! i'm also a UCI alum and super excited for the invite!

hey guys! first off, congrats to you!

i've been complete since september and haven't heard anything since except "pending review" on my status page. i, too, would be super stoked to get an interview, so i wanted to ask you guys if you did anything specific that you think may have helped you get an interview. i'm sure you guys can relate to the "helloooo uci....you there? i love you" feeling that has only been increasing day by day. i know that the chances are now getting slimmer with such few interview days left, but I still wanted to do what i can. I recently sent in an update (since a lot has happened since sept- awards/conf/new volunteering), but it was purely an update, nothing too similar to a LOI. I would really, really appreciate your input, as well as anyone/everyone here, regarding what I should do next. i'm thinking of sending in a LOInterest, but I dont know if it is too soon considering I just sent the update Monday night.

thanks and congrats again to those of you with interviews and acceptances 🙂

Hey thanks for the good wishes. Over the year I sent in 2 letter of intents with updates...but they were spaced apart by like 2 or 3 months. Like you I was pending since August/September so I know how it feels.

From what I understand there are 2 rounds for secondary apps. After the first round you are either interviewed, rejected, or put on hold so that they can compare you to the entire applicant pool. The first round ended about 3 weeks ago and they started to rereview all the hold applicants and now its either interview or reject. My point is that no news is good news because they haven't denied you yet...and i'm pretty sure that means that they haven't gotten to your application yet.

I don't see why you shouldn't send in a letter of interest...UCI is receptive to these types of things. Go for it and send it in ASAP. Good luck to you. Congrats to the other interviewee.

hi! i also sent them an LOInterest about 3 weeks ago. it basically consisted of me begging for an interview haha. i told them how much i love UCI and about my new volunteering/publication. it definitely wouldn't hurt to send in one regardless of how soon/late it is, so i think you should! good luck! 👍

hey congrats again and thanks for the insight guys

i sent in a letter of update and slight interest a while ago... but i realize it sounded a bit cliche except for my little bit about staying in california. i sent in another one just 2 or 3 weeks ago that was more of a letter of interest professing my undying and exponentially growing love. still "pending interview" so i really hope i just haven't been reviewed yet........... should i send in a third letter or would that be serious overkill?

man i'm getting so incredibly antsy and nervous
