Same here. I wonder if we can still send recommendation letters. (The rec I was planning to send after my interview didn't get sent b/c my prof was unavailable....)
Ouch man I know how you feel. Irvine waitlisted me last month...it was my 8th WL.
I got one of those AMCAS background check emails today. has anyone else gotten one lately? I'm trying to figure out which school it's coming from (Irvine is on the list of participating schools). I figure it's either because Irvine waitlisted me or because I am coming off a waitlist somewhere. Who knows haha.

Yea Id say definitely still send it. Especially if you think its going to be a strong letter.
Im not basing this off of any hard evidence but i dont seen any benefit in waiting to send it. If you have it written just send it. And if you havent written it then why not just write it? Either way its going to be put in your file. i'm not sure when they start reviewing to pull off the waitlist but i imagine sometime after may 15th.
I would write it asap since I believe schools are already reviewing for the WL and have a good idea who they will be accepting once ppl start withdrawing, this is what I think. I think it'd be too rush for the schools to wait till may 15th to start reviewing. Good luck.

I got one today, and I'm pretty sure it was from UCI. Maybe it's a coincidence... but, I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya 👍
I would say Dr. Peterson. I sent one yesterday and got a confirmation response from her later that day.

Yup this is much closer.
They have to see who drops out and then meet to replace them, from what I've heard UCI doesn't really have a list - they try to replace people who withdraw with similar people so we maintain a really diverse class. So waitlist movement occurs late May, lots in June, some in July.
So if you have a personality that fits REALLY well with Irvine and u would commit in a second then u are in big trouble 😉

I have been on the alternate list since last October, and I just got an email saying I was chosen as alternate and to fill out and submit a form if I wish to stay on the alternate list. This is an email that all waitlisted people get, right? I just want to make sure so I don't get my hopes up too high. 😳

Yeah they are forming the official "list" and cutting out people who have gotten in elsewhere and are no longer interested in staying on the list.
If you get pulled off the list Dr. Peterson will call you.

They pretty much put everyone who didn't get outright accepted on the waitlist unfortunately. You'd have to screw up pretty bad to be outright rejected.
Then they send out the email about now and a lot of people who got into other schools are no longer interested and are dropped from the waitlist.
But in the end its still a very long list, but its not impossible. Unfortunately you just have to wait, its not so much a list as it is files they rereview everytime they need spots filled. But last year there was A TON of waitlist movement (more than any other recent year), so there is definitely a good chance of getting off.

Congrats..Irvine your first choice of those u have been accepted to so far?
I haven't decided for sure yet, but I'd put a pretty high chance on me going to Irvine if I don't get off any other waitlists.

. I just replied to the "I wish to stay on the alternate list" email.one of my friends currently attends sinai and was on UCI's wl last yr, he said if he got off the wl, he would've went to UCI. A lot of ppl just wants to stay in Cali and it really doesnt matter where u go for med school unless u're into research, academia, etc then pedigree and opportunities does matter somewhat.

Perhaps yes, although I'm still haven't decided for sure. Cost, proximity to friends and family, and increased chances of a California residency are all very important to me, even though it would mean giving up the chance to live in Manhattan for four years.
I haven't had any correspondence with them since my interview. I did not send any LOI/updates. This completely took me by surprise!
i didn't interview or anything, but that's awesome. i'm happy for you! 👍
i wish had some sort of story like that with ANY of the UC's... CA hates me.

I have a friend who went to Mt. Sinai and is now doing a surgical specialty residency at UCLA...I think the residency options are still pretty open. Plus, what better time to live in Manhattan when you can live there for a much lower cost than if you were to just move there at another time in your life....I would never want to give that up! Plus everyone would love to visit New York! I'm on the wait list for Mt. Sinai so I shouldn't be saying this but...these are my reasons for wanting to get in.
If you get off the UCLA waiting list though...that's a whole other story 🙂 good luck!

After many many weeks of thought, I've withdrawn from UCI. Definitely tough because the admissions folk there have been so nice to me, and Dr. Peterson's acceptance call ranks as among the happiest moments of my life.
I hope my spot goes to one of you on this thread!

Yes, the next day after I got the call my Admissions status changed from "Alternate list" to "accepted"

According to Dr. Peterson at my interview, people should expect to start seeing WL movement fairly soon after 5/15. There have been a couple posts in this thread from individuals that were pulled off the WL already.

When I called the admissions office on Monday, they said the majority of movement would start after memorial day weekend. Hopefully we will hear soon!
I guess that is good news. Right now, I can't talk as my jaws are wired shut due to the jaw surgery. I can make grunting noises, but I don't think that would help. I am getting the wires out the day after memorial day weekend. 🙂
