I am probably going to take a vacation this summer, do i need to be present in the states if I get pulled off the waitlist? I can check my voice mail and make calls from overseas, and check emails. My brother can also sign and send in paperworks if anything necessary. I am planning to come back by the end of July. Anything you guys want to let me know about? thanks

I guess that is good news. Right now, I can't talk as my jaws are wired shut due to the jaw surgery. I can make grunting noises, but I don't think that would help. I am getting the wires out the day after memorial day weekend. 🙂 :xf:

Should I send admissions committee to describe my situation? I mean, if the alternate don't pick up, do they move on and offer the position to the next alternate?

I highly doubt that the admissions office would be that fickle if you don't pick up the phone. If they don't hear a response from you, my theory is they would then contact one of the people you listed on the "Alternate Data Form" or email you. I mean, why else would they send us an alternate contact form to fill out?

Besides, do they really expect people to pick up the phone whenever they call? What if we miss a call because we are in the bathroom or something? I also remember Dr. Peterson saying on interview day that some people in the past have hung up on her when she called them. My point is, I don't think missing the phone call once would be that big of a deal.

If we are pulled off the waitlist, does anyone know how much time we get to decide to accept the offer? Are we supposed to say yes to the phone immediately and withdraw from all other acceptance(s)?

I am actually going to be abroad this summer too. I called the office and the lady told me to send the office an email stating who your alternate contacts are, whether you give them leave to act on your behalf, their contact information, dates you are going to be abroad, your aamc id, and your name. I think that is it, but you should call the office to confirm whether there is any additional information they want.

At this point its more loose because its post-May 15th. But in general you're expected to decide in about a week. If you are waiting on financial aid or something then you can get an extension but both your current acceptance and the school you just got off the waitlist for need to agree to that (the school you're currently set to go to will start contacting you wanting to know your decision too).

With UCI waiting on fin aid is tricky and I wouldn't really recommend it although if you call you could probably get an estimate. But most first years don't get their packages until right before school starts in August. In general if your family makes less than 80-100k you can expect about 5k in grants, the rest will be Stafford loans for your first year (its 10 mos so you generally don't need any Grad pluses because we have a higher limit for staffords with a 10 mo. school year).

Good luck to everyone waiting.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week. Let's hope it brings some more waitlist movement. 🙂 Good luck to everyone....

Any movement out there? The wait is killlllliiinnggg me!

YEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!! Got the call this morning!!! I seriously thought this was never going to happen to me! What a journey. Best best best of luck to all of you. I know what you are going through... Hang in there!

I got the call from Dr. Peterson this morning. I was so excited I couldnt finish listening to the message. (for those of you worrying if you need to actually answer the phone, dont worry about it, the message works just fine). I am so excited, staying in CA!!! good luck to the rest of the prospective class. 😀

Good job guys for getting in. Hope I get in as well. Wish us luck!

this blog has been deader than dead...lets hope some good news comes our way. Anybody have any idea how many spots are left and how long the waitlist still might be?

There are technically no spots open. As people get off waitlists at other schools and withdraw UCI they fill the spots with people from the waitlist, its very dynamic not so much lists and openings.

Good luck.

how many ppl does uci accept off the wl usually?

For those of you who have gotten in off the waitlist, did you get an AMCAS background check e-mail beforehand???? Just got one this morning and I'm trying to figure out what it means. I'm on waitlists at 2 schools that supposedly participate through this background check program, so I am hoping this may mean good news, hopefully from UCI! Or maybe I am reading too much into this whole e-mail thing😕

Oh and to add to the confusion, I got a call this morning from a blocked number but I wasn't by my phone at the time and my voice mail box was full👎

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

If you search this thread, there have been others who have received the background check email as well. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any correlation between receiving that email and being taken off the waitlist - or if there was, people haven't reported it here.

Just spoke with a lady in the admissions office today to get an update.. she said there has been "some" waitlist movement so far, but not a lot and definitely less than previous years. However, she said there is still expected to be more movement in June and even July and that people have been accepted all the way up until August in the past. Guess the only thing we can do is just to keep waiting. 🙁

Thank you for calling.... even though it does nothing for us, for some reason getting information makes the wait a little easier. it is tough that they don't have any sort of ranking system so we don't even know if we are close!

I hate not knowing where I am at on this stupid list. I just wish I could know if I was in the bottom or the top half of applicants. It would be nice if I could start planning my move accross country if I was in a bad place on the alternate list.

If you receive a CBC email, and you are sure it was from UC Irvine (by process of elimination), then you can rest assured that you have been accepted. The CBC's are very expensive for schools and they simply do not run them on students they haven't already decided to accept.

I hope that brings some relief/excitement to those who have received a CBC email for UC Irvine, because it's absolutely true.

Got the call today from Dr. Peterson. IM IN!!!!! Good luck to you all.

Wow congrats! 🙂

Here's to hoping there will be similar good news for some of the rest of us soon... :luck:

And the waiting continues...

Just asking for advise. If I don't get accepted anywhere this year, would it be better to re-apply right now for 2009-2010 or it's better to wait another year? Can someone really help out here please! Thanks guys. I really don't want to wait for 2 more years. But does it effect my waitlist status if I apply to the same school? I got 3 WLs. I have no clue what to do.

To BomBom: Sorry to hear about your situation. :/ That does suck.
Personally, I think applying now would depend on whether you have improved your credentials in the 2008-09 year. If you haven't significantly, then you might get the same result even if you apply in this cycle. I don't know if reapplying will affect your waitlist status. Sorry if I sound harsh. But you may get off the waitlist yet.

If the worst case happens (and I hope it will not happen to you :luck:), you can also take a 1-year master program to increase your credential. Some school will guarantee you an interview with them if you take the master program.

For me, Irvine requested the background check after the call from Dr. Peterson. But I agree, it would surprise me to see a school request that information without deciding to give an offer -- they are expensive.

How do I apply for a 1-year master program or who should I really ask? Do I need to take tests and interview for that? probably yes.

I have just a quick question, do emails or letters sent to Dr. Peterson get added to my file or I have to only email the medadmit address? Maybe too late to ask this question, but whatever.

I believed that it is really easy to apply. I know the program of East Virginia Med School requires only 25 MCAT and a very quick application. I don't know about other schools. Hope it help

show them your interested. Make phone calls, send emails, go to admissions office if ure near by.

When you guys call, what do you ask? The reason I ask is because when I call, the person on the phone doesn't seem too generous with waitlist information. 🙁

Yeah, you can give them a call, but I pretty much stuck to emails. After I called they were kinda bitchy to me, so I just sent them updates via email.

Same.

Funny how the times have changed. It used to be rude to just Email.

In all my Email correspondence, I added an attachment (pdf) that was formatted like a letter. It repeated what was said in the Email, but I hoped they might print it out and hold it in their hands.

Hi all, just wanted to let you know I just got off the list! I was in the middle of a final so I just got a message from the Dean. Good luck to everyone, I got mine. 😎:soexcited:😎

Aw man, seriously.. congrats.. that's awesome! I'd be so insanely ecstatic if I were you right now, not able to get much else done. 👍

Won't lie though, I'm getting pretty discouraged. Already sent in 1 update letter a month, with new info in each letter, since March. Guess it hasn't helped much... will keep hoping though.

At least you are sending in updates. 🙂 I am still waiting. The waitlist movement seems to be a lot slower than previous years. I am also getting quite discouraged. oh well :-/ :xf:

I also sent three new or updated letters of reference bringing my total to 8 after I interviewed. That might have helped but none of us has any reall idea how to get off this list.

To show our interests do we email Dr. Peterson or medadmit?

I had letters sent to Dr. Peterson and I sent an update email to medadmit

Congratulations to people who got off the waitlist! I am seriously happy for you all. 🙂 I have a few questions for you guys:

For people who have sent in LOR's, did you email them to Dr. Peterson or snail mail them in?

Also, once you get off the waitlist, what are the next steps? E.g. apply for housing, get health clearance, and what else??? I am volunteering abroad soon with very limited Internet and no phone, and I want to prepare the next steps for my parents to handle on my behalf if I get off the waitlist. Thanks!

Yes I would pay the $20 to activate your on-campus housing if you want it. Keep in mind that by now the 50 guaranteed spots are probably taken and being filled so you will have the waitlist. You will either need to couch surf until you get a place sometime in late August (thats when they finally start taking from the waitlist) or live off campus (there are a lot of options off campus).

Health clearance is just your immunization records and proof of a TB test and tetanus shot. Due the first day of orientation.

Thats pretty much it.

just withdrew my acceptance earlier this week...good luck to those still on the WL

For those of you who got a call from Dr. Peterson, at what time approximately did you get the call? I just want to know so I can have some sanity after a certain time of the day rather than stare at my phone the whole day.

I got the call at around 9:30 am but I have seen alot of other people that got calls at night. I'm not sur she has a routine but I think its in the morning for weekdays and between 7 and 9 on weekends, but that is only because that seems to be what I have seen and not from actually looking at Dr. P's schedual or something.

You really can't plan. She calls when she has time (driving to/from meetings, etc). Sometimes its morning, sometimes its lunch, sometimes its evenings or weekends. Don't try to plan, it won't work
