When I did this. I used a friend that was in medical school.
Another good one would be a friendly head of an organization that you're really involved in.
someone who works in the health field that knows you pretty well would be good too. (if you have a friend who is a nurse, etc).

What are people doing about this peer letter? I kinda feel bad asking a friend to write a letter for me just because it takes a lot of effort and everyone is really busy. My science inclined friends that know me in lab and such aren't as great writers as my humanities friends who don't really know my mad science skills ;o). So I'm torn.

For my peer letter, I used a very close friend of mine that I have known for about six years. He was able to attest to my character, my goals in life, and things of that nature. I do not think that they necessarily want someone that is considered like an authority figure, or not even someone involved in the health field (obviously that can't hurt!), but truly someone that knows you better than any other person who will be writing a recommendation. Probably, i would assume, someone who could attest for your sincerity in wanting to pursue a career in medicine would be the best person to write a peer letter. It worked out well for me, so that is my suggestion. Good Luck!

for anyone who has interviewed at UF already - how long was the interview day? does it really last until 5pm like the email says?

From my experience, the interview day actually lasted longer than what they told me. I did not leave until around 5:20 pm,i think because my tour took longer than expected. Also, I remember getting there pretty early. However, I really did enjoy the day and there was not a lot of sitting around. I felt like there was a lot of student contact, and everyone in admissions was awesome!

Does anyone know if/when UF is done with interviews/ invites?

I received an email in early-mid Feb. that said they were interviewing through the end of march. I think that probably means that the invites are all out, but I could be wrong.

This Friday the 20th is the last scheduled interview date with the stipulation they might hold a couple more if they don't fill up the class

Are you sure? I didn't see any interviewees on the bulletin board today. Maybe they post them later on during the week? I really hope the hold pile will move soon... Also, how come the UF forum is only 2 pages? Where are all the gator fans?

I have also wondered why this thread was so short. Does anyone know when UF is sending out more decisions? I have been "on hold" since Oct. 15...I know March is winding down, and I thought that it would be sometime this month.

I've been on hold since early November too. 🙁. I heard we will be notified shortly since interviews are done. I'm tired of waiting, not knowing my fate.

i e-mailed Denise and I asked her if she had any idea about it, and she gave me the dates April 3-4 or May 1-2. She said they were leaning more towards april, even though they didnt want to have it that early. She said all other weekends in april have scheduling conflicts.

I was worried about my tests too, and my work schedule, so that is why i asked her. 🙂 Hope that helps!

Is Second Look still proposed to be on April 3-4? By the looks of it, a few are still "on hold" and that gives a week remaining.

Hey guys, I've been to the admissions office weekly, to ask them about this.

The ladies at the front are suggesting that we'll be waiting until the end of April. They said the adcom is moving slowly this year. They are considering about 200 files.

Any new word when those of us on hold should be hearing an update?

I called yesterday and they said hopefully by the end of April / early May

i got in today off the hold list, just got an email about an hour ago.

You were notified today? I went to the receptionist yesterday at 2 pm and asked her when we would find out. She said that the adcom had not met and decided on the status of the applicants. She also said it was likely that we would be notified about our decision next week at around tuesday or wednesday. Is there anyone else that has been notified yet?

I was accepted today also around 4 p.m.

Alternate list too...will the wait ever end? Does anyone know what alternate list movement has been like in the past, i.e. how many people get off it and approximately when they start pulling from this list?

Last year 54 people got in off the alternate list. (out of 100 on it) There is no ranking Denise said so im confused as to how it works. Im on it too (obviously) more waiting....

Does anyone know what the deal is with football tickets?

Registration for the lottery opened on April 20 and closes June 5 at 5:00 PM. You do not have to be currently registered for classes to enter the lottery.

Any other Qs?

Of those who got accepted, how were you satisfied with UF's financial aid package?

I feel pretty happy, I got a 50% renewable tuition award. Many people told me to expect nothing.

any out there withdrawing their acceptance to UF med?

If anybody has heard anything about the waitlist movements, can you post them on this thread? Thanks.

Are you sure about this? Please - I really hope it's true. UF is my only wait-list and I'm working / volunteering over-time at every single place imaginable to send them enough updates to take me off the WL.

just wanted to let everyone know that i got off the alternate list today. good luck to you all!

I've just about given up hope. I've sent about 5 update letters and an additional rec letter from an MS-2. So far no luck. Since it is now July 1st, I think I will throw in the towel.

so what are the chances we'd hear back from UFmed at this point in the app cycle? are they just planning on keeping us up in limbo until orientation (Aug 10)?

It's possible. That's what they told me - that theoretically the last day we could make it off the list would be Aug 10. So yet another month of waiting. It's hard not to feel sick to my stomach these days.

Anyway - has anybody else been able to get any info about the wait list? Do you know if they are currently looking at your file or anything? It's tough to get specifics like how many are currently still on the WL and whether I'm at the top or bottom of the pile. Sigh I dunno.

For those of you on the WL - how many updates have you sent?

3-4 updates since being placed on the WL. Maybe I'll squeeze 1 more in before the end of the cycle, but it would probably be futile.

I've sent in about 3-4 since the WL as well, for a total of about 7. I'll probably try to send in one more as well, but I'm not sure update letters have any bearing on their decisions. There probably just isn't much you could do in a few months to change the adcoms' minds if they don't think you're a good fit. However, I think by mid-July or so, they will probably start looking for guys who'll definitely accept the offer, so I think writing a few more LOI-type of letters focused on how much you want to be a Gator might help.

Hm...good point. It's tough trying to be aggressive with updates, but not too aggressive, ya know? Have you guys visited the admissions office or talked to the staff up front? They are pretty nice and helpful.

Well good luck to us I guess =/ I hope all 3 of us get in.

Sure have, they're very personable and helpful. I try to send an update in every 2 weeks or so, although it's hard to have much new to write about in such short intervals :/

I hope we all get in as well, hopefully the adcom will see that we really want to get into UF and will do whatever it takes to succeed there....

Yeah...hopefully this next week will bring some news

Ugh...can't stop thinking about this. Anyone have any clue or guess as to how many more people they'd accept between now and orientation?

My optimistic guess is about 10. My more realistic guess is like 4 or 5. Or less haha

OMFG, I just opened a letter from UF from about 2 months ago when I was volunteering in China. Apparently, I was supposed to notify them in writing if I wanted to stay on the alternate list. I told them to send mail to my permanent address before I left, but they sent it to my Gainesville address anyway. My roommate took the letter since I wasn't home then, so I didn't notice until today when we're cleaning out the apartment.... The email they sent out about alternate list made no mention of this "reply in writing" thing, so I had no idea. It's gonna really suck if I missed on UF because of this crap. I've been sending them updates and they've been accepting them, so I hope that means I'm still on the alternate list.

Yeah - I think you're fine. I didn't know to do it until I saw the letter about a day from the deadline. I think they'll realize it wasn't your fault - they never mentioned it in the e-mail. And if you're sending updates they know you're interested.

They did tell me there'll be a few in the next few days, so keep your fingers crossed!

Good luck, everybody. Whatever happens, just be mentally prepared, as hard as that is lol. I think I got my first gray hair this summer.

This week could be the week!!! I hope :scared:
