Thanks, Zipmedic. The email I got after submitting my UMed app said over 100 people apply, which started to scare me a little. I guess I should appeal if I end up being rejected from UMed.

Hey Zip... I should have read your last post about UMed and petitioning before I took any action, but it's too late. I was planning on applying for UMed but in the midst of essay-writing I decided to sent in my petition first as I had completed it first and so now my ordering's off. I'm going to submit my UMed this week anyway, but is it going to be looked down upon if they see that I petitioned? Do the same people look at the petition and UMed? I hope they understand it's indeed possible to want to do UMed and be in Chicago at the same time...

For those who sent a petition, how do you check if they've received it? I sent one a month ago with tracking, but misplace the tracking number. Now I don't know if they receive it.

I imagine this is already posted, but this thread is huge and the search algorithm is a fail, so:

When is the final cut for those of us on hold? From what I heard on my interview day, the wait list probably won't move very much. But, do they give out an applicant's wait list ranking?

If you sent it, they got it.

They rank the waitlist by quartile; applicants are not typically notified of their position on the waitlist. Good luck.

Does anyone know how much tuition is expected to increase for next year or when we will know what it will be? thanks!

So I called the financial aid office today and they said they won't know for sure about the tuition until May. However, they did say that based on an estimated 9.5% increase in tuition it should be around 29,394 for the first year with an additional 3,692 for fees.

I was complete on 1/15/09 (yes, I know), and just got the "Applicant in Process" status change today. Hope I get an interview.
34Q MCAT, 3.4 GPA

can anybody explain to me what this subtlety actually means? (i.e. application in progress vs. applicant in progress?)

how do any of you know that this word means a thing, in terms of interview prospects? are we propagating a myth?:slap:

Read back earlier in the thread and, if that isn't enough evidence for you, read last year's UIC thread. Good luck in the process.

Is the March admissions meeting today? I thought I remembered someone at the interview saying that there was a meeting on 3/19... but when I called today they said that "it's always at the end of the month"

I'm hoping it doesn't mean i was rejected and they just don't want to tell me on the phone !

EDIT: Just found out that b/c it's Match Day they delayed their meeting by a week... next Thursday...

How did you find this out?

Where did u find out its match day?

What is match day.

Oh you silly Russian 😛 Match day is only the biggest day of your life from this day forward! It's bigger than your wedding day, bigger than the day your first child is born, it's the day time stands still. Anyway, match day is when you find out if you matched into a residency program of your choice and if so, which program. If you scroll to the top of this page, SDN's article this week is "The Scramble: How It Works..." and somewhat explains match day. Hope that helps 🙂

Yeah, i did a quick search and just read 5 articles. lol. oh my ignorant self. Still hoping I'll be matched from UofI but at least i've got one acceptance.

I found out by calling the admissions office at the campus I interviewed... they tend to be more helpful than the main campus...

Yeah, nothing but celebration is happening today.

I wouldn't mind joining in on that w/ an acceptance... lol

Forgive them. The "main campus" is inundated with phone calls from dawn to dusk; some are original and legitimate, many are from people who lost information or just can't seem to find any patience.

So, here's the relevant info, if you all can help...

I'm a second semester senior waiting to hear back from just UIC, post-interview. I have/am going to apply to some SMPs as a backup. My last two semesters have gone really well, ie show an upward trend in grades. This semester is going okay except for a C that I might get in an English course. The last day to withdraw from a course is at the end of this week...so do you all think it would be better to take the C or withdraw? If I do get good newsfrom UIC, would this jeopardize the acceptance? What does UIC say about spring semester grades? Also, would it jeopardize an acceptance into an SMP? Gaaahhh, I'm scared.

Thanks in advance!

Patience...? what's that??? By "more helpful" I meant "more specific" =)

So the committee is meeting today..? Anyone else going crazy?

You should have dropped off some Dunkin' Donuts. Or brought them an assortment of freebies like pins, pens, bumper stickers with your name on it.

I got my financial aid award letter electronically today...I'm psyched about a small scholarship on it, but the rest of the cost is covered by loans entirely. I guess I've been pampered for the last four years by getting a ton of need-based financial aid.....Does UIC not give need-based financial aid scholarships? Have they determined who gets these yet, or will this award letter be updated eventually?

HAH i brought pastries last week... thinking its the 3rd thursday of the month... stinkin match day!!!

Yes I am going NUTS... i feel like i've been holding my breath since last summer for this decision...

When will our status sites change??? Today? Tomorrow? Next week???

i'm guessing next week. if you look at the status page is says that the website is down during the first tuesday of the month.

When I was the admissions office during the beginning of march, I asked if the committee had already met. The nice lady at the front desk showed me when the entire staff had 'blocked' off their day (adcom meeting 🙂). Then i perused her desk with my eyes and saw all of the acceptances sitting in their white UI COM envelopes waiting to be sent to folks.

I'll do some spying again next week early and let you all know if I see anything.

Lucky. I wish I had received any scholarships!! Loans it is...atleast for this year. 🙂

Got mine today also. I'm an OOS student and got 1 small scholarship also for this coming year and the rest was covered by loans also. Has anyone contacted the financial aid office successfully(--tried by email but no response) to ask about the need-based scholarships?

Bretzel--can I ask, do you have a family (spouse/children)? And what track are you going to be on?

You're not going to see a lot of need-based aid, save for the scholarships already on the award letter. Loans are simply how most people pay for medical school. Welcome to the club.

Okay.

Patience. Patience.

Part of me wants to call the office and see if they can tell me anything, but the meeting is over and the decision has been made, right?!

Patience. (i just need to keep telling myself that)

btw No one has had any change to their status yet, right!?

One of my friends got a status update already.

My status changed within the last hour from "Decision Pending" to "Final Decision Made", with an "Additional Correspondences" tab. What do I make of this at this point in the cycle? They give out waitlist spots with the same message at this time right? (I remember reading that somewhere on either this thread or last years thread) Can someone confirm please!

From this years thread...
I THINK this could be good news... but I haven't read anywhere how they deliver bad news.
And I don't think they really do waitlists... I think they just put you on hold til the next mtg - in which case you would get an email and your status would remain "decision pending" OR "application/applicant in process" (don't know which)... I'm not sure...

I thought I'd get some satisfaction from this... but oddly I still don't know what exactly it means. oh the insanity !

I think the next step is wait for a CBC email? But some people get that after a letter?

Does anybody know how long it takes them to update the sites? Mine still says decision pending, but do they continuing updating all day?

seems like it. i checked the posts for the month of feb and someone posted at 551pm eastern that they got a status change, so it's possible right? things could be different this time though so eh?

i've never been this neurotic with these sorts of things but an acceptance from uic could mean i dont have to reapply this cycle/turn in apps for smps. i'm praying that all of us on here get good news from uic...
good luck!

I also got the additional correspondence message. I really hope this is good news! The wait is brutal!

How late did everybody interview in March? I interviewed just last week, but they said we'd have our applications go to review this month. I'm wondering whether or not my status will change 🙁 I've been checking all day!

I interviewed on March 16th in Chicago.

I interviewed on the 20th and my status still hasn't changed. They said they would slip us in with this month's batch, but maybe they didn't get to my batch. Did anyone who interviewed on the 20th get a status change?

I interviewed on the 20th too... they must not have gotten to us, a whole month before we hear then....

I interviewed on the 16th... of February. They told us they would process my batch in the February meeting, and then I ended up never hearing from them again... along with no status updates. Yes the month of waiting sucks.

They said they would send us an email if a decision is put off until later. I haven't received an email yet, so I think I will use that as an excuse to call sometime next week to find out what's up.

Isn't the email sent only when they review your file but fail to come to a decision... as in when they pass you up to be reviewed again the next month. For me, I never got any email or status change (from the "decision pending" message) after last months meeting. That's what led me to believe I was never reviewed, rather than "reviewed, then passed up to be re-reviewed in March". Likewise, for you March 20th-ers, if you guys truly weren't reviewed, you should not be receiving an email.

Anyone is free to correct me on this, especially zipmedic who I think I first saw posting about this.

Did anyone who received the correspondence message have a date in the tab? I've been reading through the old posts and I'm worried because there is no date in mine.

No date on my additional correspondence tab, yet.

From reading this year's and last year's forums, and it looks like the date doesn't come until later. The CBC email might come before that addnl correspondence date change (which is for site assignment, I believe).

This is correct. A date did not show up immediately.

I interviewed march 2. my status still says decision pending. i'm afraid it means rejection.

🙁

Well it's not a rejection unless there was a "final decision made". At worst you've been passed up to be re-reviewed next month. Wait till you get the "email" though. Don't fret unless you know for sure!

You can learn a lot by reading the posts in the UIC thread from this time last year...
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=461204&page=27

Post 1414 (page 29) by Bond8204 is especially helpful for those still waiting. He very briefly summarizes what will happen after the march meeting. If you read on for a few more pages what he says comes true. I'm fairly sure this year won't be that different.

It's actually weird how similar this thread has been to last years...
