Definitely call and schedule right away. When I called to schedule mine they were booked up until the end of January.

👍

Calling quickly is important!

Can you believe how many pages our thread is? We're getting up there!

Yah, our thread is a happenin' place!

We are certainly an active bunch. Also, good luck to all of those waiting for their interviews, going into their interviews, and awaiting the final decision.

I would be more excited if I get a letter saying I got placed in Chicago! 🙂

That would be pretty amazing. At this point I want to get accepted first. I guess worry about one thing at a time, right? I am sure you will place in Chicago. I can't imagine that it filled up already.

i was told that it will not fill up until after this admissions committee decision.

after that, dr. g. and other uic staff said most likely by january that chicago will be filled. who knows, these things change from year to year.

so I called about my ten week applicant in status status. basically they told me that no decision had been reached by the reviewers yet and to just keep checking online and wait.

yay more waiting!!

I remember reading somewhere placement is first come, first serve, but have there ever been cases where someone was placed in other sites for whatever reason? My heart is really set on going to Chicago next year and I would be crushed if I was placed elsewhere, especially being accepted early on.

Dude, thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to drop what I'm doing and learn Python right now. So cool.

Let's not forget who helped you extensively in your struggles with those projects you ungrateful fool.

Indeed! I'm loving this thread.

On an another note, can anyone please tell me which amongst the Rockford and Peoria campuses fills up faster? If anyones can also let me know at what time this "second filling" occurs, that too would be appreciated.

by "this adcom decision", do you mean decisions for those who interviewed in nov. or those who interview in dec.? also, do you happen to know if they still have a dec. meeting with the holidays/winter break? thanks in advance for any info 🙂

I feel ya... I sent in my acceptance forms Tuesday, 11/25 first thing in the morning so I don't understand how forms that were received Monday, 11/24 were processed right away but ours is dragging... maybe the same rule applies where if after two weeks, we don't hear anything, they can tell us over the phone? I want to hopefully know before Christmas.

Has anyone here, after turning in your acceptance forms, had to wait weeks before receiving your site location confirmation letter? It is just hypnix and me?

I sent in my forms last Wednesday, the 26th. I called yesterday and they confirmed that it was received, so I'm still waiting. I'm not worried though I'm sure we'll still get the Chicago campus.

Yeah, I sent mine in on Tuesday like Protodoc. I guess because other people found out so quickly we got so worried. For some reason, I was expecting it to come in last Monday. I guess it's always two weeks and they'll let us know over the phone if possible. Perhaps something will come in the mail today! 🙂

I just called in again and the lady said that the admissions committee has not made their decision yet whether I'm in the Chicago campus but should hear within a week. She made it sound like I'm under review for acceptance into school period, haha. I didn't know adcom was involved in campus assignment... just thought adminstration personnel opened the acceptance letters in order of receipt and just started filling up spots. Oh well... at least she said I should hear in about a week.

Oh wow,
that kind of worries me. I really thought it was first come, first serve basis.

I thought so too... maybe since I'm an alum of U of I, they think that I'll want to go back to Champaign? I really hope they aren't reasoning like that... I loved U of I and loved the campus, but that's already a closed chapter. Well let's try to calm our nerves and remember that we're friggin accepted!

Haha, I am an alum as well. I hope they don't use that reasoning. Crap, we have more commonalities

Yea, I second the above... At least we are accepted! I'm sure we'll find out soon though, I predict mid-week next week...

Let us not forget that applying to the UMed (urban Medicine) program and being accepted into it automatically guarantees you a spot at the Chicago campus. That is an option for anyone who wants a spot in Chicago, and does not get placed there initially. This happened with a friend of mine last year.

There is always hope, young padawans.

You guys still haven't heard yet? I actually went to the admissions office and turned my stuff in on 11/25. I received my site assignment letter on 11/27, which was dated 11/26, so I was assigned to the Chicago campus within 24 hours. On the letter it states:

"Based on your preference, college goals, and available places, you have been assigned to the following track for your medical school curriculum..."

I guess maybe they look at other factors besides your stated preference? I am from the Chicago burbs and I gave no reasons as to why I wanted the Chicago campus; I simply marked it as my first choice and handed the card to the secretary. I doubt Chicago would have filled so fast, but maybe nobody is selecting the other campuses, and thus they need to be more discriminating in who they assign where? Also, I interviewed in Peoria. It sucks. Peoria is a crumbling industrial town covered in rust and peeling paint. I was accepted to both UIC and Rush, and had they assigned me Peoria, I would have withdrawn my UIC acceptance that day. Rockford and Urbana are nice towns. Not much to do in Rockford, but still a nice, moderate sized town. Anyway, good luck in getting Chicago, or at least Rockford or Urbana.

Now I'm worried a little again... maybe this is the first year they decided they need to pick who goes to Chicago based on our goals and how we fit Chicago rather than just first-come first-serve basis? But then again it seems all of us who didn't get our cards in by that Tuesday, 11/25 are waiting to hear... if I were allowed to take a day off from work, I SOOO would have turned in my card in person! Darn it!

I submitted my secondary on 10/2 and am still in "application in progress". Do you guys think this is essentially a rejection? I didn't ever see it change to "applicant in progress" but maybe it did and then switched back. My MCAT and GPA are above the average so I dunno why I havent heard from them 🙁 At least one person who submitted theirs a week later than me has received an invite.

i turned my application in august 5th, officially complete on the 15th of august. i am still applicant in status.. so don't worry, that is normal. If you are rejected, you will know. Your time under applicant in status just means that they are still deciding. you just have to be patient.

ugh, it's really hard though.

Question for everyone. I started my background check with certiphi on 12/1/08 and I am still not processed. Is anyone else taking that long?

You are absolutely right. I am pretty sure they are swamped with apps right now. Just about the only thing you can do is be patient and hope for the best. Good luck to you guys on getting the interviews.

I started mine on Wednesday the 3rd and heard back on the 5th Friday, so that was two days I guess?

Probably pretty variable though depending on how hard it is to track down all of your stuff, probably first part of next week!

Dang, now i'm worried. They contacted me about a Canadian criminal release on wednesday.

I wouldn't worry... it's probably just taking longer cuz when they pull state and federal criminal records, they can just pull them, but when they're Canadian, Certiphi probably needs to send in a request form and then wait for Canada to respond...

I just checked my status and I have the decision pending status now! I have been able to stay fairly calm until now. I was one of those blessed (not lucky) people tho. I was complete September 25th, got an interview invite like a couple weeks later, interviewed Nov 19th and have been fervently praying to hear good news from somewhere.

I am expecting to hear back around christmas! I hope its all good news. Goodluck everyone no matter what stage you are in! If its meant to be, it will be!

P.S:This thread rocks!!!

No update on my end. I interviewed on the 25th of Nov. Best of luck to you ChichiMD:luck:

I'm becoming a lil' neurotic. Just a lil'...😱 Can't study for finals... Anyone else feeling the same

Nothing about campus site location today. It's two weeks tomorrow. Kind of worried =/

if one gets a decision pending message, does that mean that there is a good chance for acceptance or does everyone go through the decision pending message?

hypnix, i hope you get some mail/confirmation soon....your anticipation is felt deeply by me.

If it was me, I'd call them today and let them know it has been two weeks...

I wouldn't worry too much about it -- I did drive my acceptance in from the 'burbs, but my Chicago site confirmation didn't mention anything about being based on something other than first-come/first-served. Try to stay calm!

Thanks so much! I'm almost positive it's still early enough that they assigned me to Chicago, but I don't understand the delay is all... just going to keep checking the mail! If I don't get anything by the end of this week, I'm going to call for sure.

So I just got back from my interview, and let me first say, the interviewers were amazing. They were all incredibly nice, laid back, and really had my interests in mind.

But to many of the questions on this thread. They will be meeting next Thursday to decide who gets acceptances, and they will most likely get in the computer friday. They will try to send out the packets on the following Monday, but they are unsure if they will be coming to work (thus sending out the packets) because it is only a few days before the holidays, and the offices may be closed.

After receiving the acceptance packet, and sending in the campus selection card, they said it typically takes them about one week to turn around and send back which campus you will be going to. They said Chicago typically fills up late December/early January... so its getting to be crunch time for that.

Hopefully we will all get our CBC emails around 12/19.

Good luck to all and myself, and hope to see you at UIC next fall!

Oh, and also, I was talking to the recruitment and admissions counselor, and he said there was a slight difference in the wording of the status page between those who are accepted, and those who are rejected. He didn't remember the exact difference, but he said that's just another way to know if you've been accepted.

hopefully my week 11 status of applicant in process will finally end and good news will come my way this week ! (and everyone else who has been waiting for what seems to be eternity) :xf::xf::xf:

if not, maybe i will have to start writing a nice letter to santa asking him for an interview invite to UIC in my stocking.:laugh::laugh:

hey, my status screen changed!

"Acceptance and Deposit Received, Pre-Enrollment requirements not yet complete (Please see above)"

Maybe we'll be finding out about campuses this week?

Sweet! My status screen changed too!! However, I know I dated my acceptance form and deposit check for 11/24 but they are showing 12/8. migm- what date did you date yours and what's yours showing (if you don't mind sharing)?

Same thing -- sounds like the date is not so accurate.

Can anyone tell me what wording constitutes an acceptance/waitlist/rejection on the status page? It would be very helpful. Hypnix, did you find out where you are going yet?

I believe it says something like A decision has been reached. Please wait up to two weeks for additional correspondence. Do not call because no decision will be given over the phone.

And no, I did not find out yet 🙁

Has anyone else not heard back regarding placement? I sent in my card over a week ago. I know this school is slow, but there really can't be that many cards to go through at this point.

So I am pretty sure it is my neurosis kicking in but I have a question. I interviewed Nov 19th and they said they will not be reviewing us until the december meeting next week.

I am assuming that decision pending couldnt possibly mean they magically reviewed me and passed me up already right??

Just typing this makes me feel silly/nauseous seeing as this is my top choice!

Any kind of advise would help right about now...
