bump!

This is completely sheer speculation -- but, at least judging from the Facebook group, the acceptances seem to be trickling out fairly regularly at this point. I hope you get that phone call soon 🙂

I noticed the same thing it grows in size by about 4-6 people every week or two. We'll see what happens in March.

Hopefully those are just people that were accepted a while ago but finally decided to join the group. :xf:

So what's up with the March 15th date? I read somewhere that all medical schools need to have their first complete list of acceptances by then? Is this true?

Also, Rach83, does your username refer to Rachmaninoff? Just curious.

72 but you have to take into consideration the fact that there are probably members that are current students giving advice to those newly admitted.

Thanks, I would have been scared if there had been 125 people in there! 🙂

No it doesn't. I don't know much about his music but what little I've heard, I've liked. 🙂

About the March 15th thing, I do hope schools are forced to make most of their non-waitlist acceptances by then.

where did you hear that? Just curious

I read it on some thread, I don't know where, but it sounded like more of a rumor than a fact. I wish it was a fact!

I was at the last interview day, and they told us that acceptances are going to start coming out pretty regularly starting this week. Last week none were given out because of some transition I think? Or maybe because it was exam week and they didn't have students working in admissions?

So earliest you can hear = tomorrow. Yikes!

Please keep in mind that assessing the size of the Facebook group is the absolute worst way to determine the rate at which acceptances are going out. Some of the members I've recently approved at my own classmates or upperclassmen.

Hang in there everyone!

Yeah I know, but what else do I have to obsess about? 😳

Let's hope this week brings good news for those of us still waiting. :xf:

Did they give you guys any more info. on upcoming admissions or how many they have accepted so far? Just curious because some of us interviewed a while ago.

All they said was that they still had a lot of their acceptances to give out, and that everyone on the last interview day (~75) could theoretically get an acceptance. I don't know if I heard this at the interview day, but I'm pretty sure they still have about 2/3 if not more of their acceptances to give out.

I'll be praying a lot from now until April!!

Yeah they said there would still be at least enough spots open in the class by the last interview day to theoretically accept everyone from the last day. If the class size is staying ~190, that means there would have been ~115ish acceptances given out so far. Or less; it's hard to say. In any case, I know they were anticipating accepting around 300 to fill the class, so I'm sure there are still PLENTY of seats to go out. 🙂

I'm going to jump out of my skin every time my phone rings.

Good luck everyone!

Me too!! Apparently the number pops up as "Unavailable" - I'll probably walk out of class if an Unavailable number or a Houston area code pops up on my cell phone haha

Hahaha or just change my voice mail to "Hi Baylor College of Medicine? Of COURSE I accept"

Haha, I felt the same way. Any call I got during class, I'd instantly run out. When I finally got the real call, I took a screenshot on my iPhone so I could prove I hadn't just imagined it (press sleep and the home button at the same time, for those with iPhones 😛)... The call came at 5:44 PM from the general BCM number: 713-798-4951. 5:44 PM on a Monday was definitely later than I'd expected they would call. Hope this info helps and good luck!

Ah!! Congratulations!!

Thanks, but I should probably clarify that was back in December. I haven't heard of any recent acceptances, either through SDN or the rumor mill at UT. Hopefully they'll get the process rolling for all those still waiting! 🙂

Hi Rishi! I was at the last interview and you gave us the first tour. You were really nice and I appreciate your super informative tour! I'm glad that I got to meet you after reading your posts and blog. Thanks for always keeping us posted and cross your fingers for me! =)

Quick question from someone who might be applying next year,

about how much clinical volunteering would the average competitive applicant for Baylor have?

I don't really want to spend the money applying if I have absolutely no chance

To add a caveat to this, is it alright if my clinical experience is paid? I might be getting a 40 hour a week, summer-long internship at a hospital this summer. I want to go to Baylor. Will 4.0 gpa and 39 MCAT make up for lack of extracurriculars? (Not asking for validation for my MCAT and gpa, I am aware they are above average but in terms of ECs I am highly lacking --I have research experience and some shadowing, but 0 hours volunteering [hopefully will get some by the end of this semester] and I'm not a member of any clubs.)

There's not really a magical number for volunteer hours or for anything for that matter. All I can say is that I had ~75 hrs of volunteering in a hem/onc clinic, and I received an interview at Baylor. Hope that helps.

While your numbers are solid, don't underestimate the importance of EC's. Though they may play a lesser role in your application, they are nonetheless an essential component. For instance, I have a friend who has ~3.8 GPA and ~95th percentile MCAT. He's a teacher for TPR, but has no real EC's outside of that - no research, volunteering, shadowing or anything. Basically, zero clinical experience. Let's just say he would be in a much better position in this cycle had he gotten the clinical experience. So the take home lesson is: get on those EC's. You could even take a year off and really rack up the EC's - this will make for a truly solid app. Also, paid clinical experience is fine, but I still think you should volunteer your time somewhere as well (doesn't have to be a clinical setting).

Good luck to both of you 👍

i had 0 clinical volunteering hours and was accepted to baylor in october. but i do have other legit exposure to what medicine entails...so you don't absolutely need clinical volunteering, but you do need to be able to show that you know what you are getting yourself into.

yeah thats really helpful, I have about that much and alot of people have been telling me I have almost no chance unless I got like 200+. Guess I will apply everywhere I'm interested and see what happens.

Good luck with your application process

Yes, that's truly the key... some sort of experience that pertains to medicine.

So if I like volunteer, for instance, at a library -- it's all good as long as I do have clinical experience (even though it's paid)?

This is crazy. Why doesn't BCM just hand out all the acceptances already and get it over with so that people can plan their lives!!!

Thanks. I interviewed back in september and still no news. That is just not fair and not nice to hold somebody up for so long like this. It's so wrong.

For your sake... you are aware of what a fellow is, right?

You will never walk alone, bro. I promise you.

I'm flattered that your first post on SDN had me in it. 😀 Glad I could be of assistance, and of course I'll have my fingers crossed for all of you! :xf:

Yeah I got it from this thread. Maybe I should email Melody as well

I think they're just too busy to reply now. I emailed Melody directly about three weeks ago and no reply, so I don't think you should email her again (since she probably checks both).

anybody know how many people have been accepted so far? how many out of staters have been accepted so far?

I also emailed and got no reply. I'm just assuming that they received the emails and were too busy to send something back. It must be pretty hectic in their offices right about now.

If they would just accept their class already from the all-mysterious, omniscient list maybe they wouldn't have this problem.

People who sent updates, did you get replies? I sent mine to [email protected] three weeks ago and nothing.

I emailed a letter to admissions, and received a reply stating that my letter had been forwarded to the Sr. Assoc. Dean of Admissions... got the reply about a week after I sent the email.

recently?

I have a great idea for recently accepted Baylor MS1's like myself:

We should get in touch with MS4's so we can know which people are going to be moving away for residency-this means we can probably get their couches and tables for free (they will probably throw these out anyways)! I know this because I've already got a few clunky items lined up to throw away after graduation. They're too expensive to move to Houston.

Free furniture hooah!

Ahem, N-O. Dibs 😀

Hey, GoSpurs, you've already been scavenging for 2 years now. Give us a chance! We are soon to be needy medical students.

This is it. The **it is going to start hitting the fan tomorrow. It's on!!!!!
