Hey guys, i just got accepted to BU this year and will be going in August. Be careful when considerng talking about the NEIDL in your interview and you much you love infectious disease research, because a lot of staff at BUSM don't actually like the NEIDL there. There was a court case to hvae it built somewhere else, but they lost. My interviewer himself told me this and he was a phd researcher. So, just make sure you're aware of both sides 🙂

I've got the same problem. I'm just going to write how the lab course is designed to be taken after or during second semester ochem lecture because it includes experiments from both first and second semester topics, so essentially the entire range is covered but in a condensed fashion. So yes, we might have missed out on certain reactions, but spanned the entire range of topics in some way

I dont know sometimes things are just weird, I was verified on 6/2...and yet MCW still has not sent me the application where it seems everyone on sdn who applied there has it now...sometimes things just slip through the cracks i guess.

Did you guys ever get that essay cutting off business fixed? Becuase I'm about to submit mine and it's doing the same thing although I have many characters still left...

I called them and they said dont worry about it. As long as you are under the character count its not a big deal apparently.
I think its the 3rd essay thats the problem right? I had like 250 characters left but my 3rd one (about learning experiences) was cut off by about 2 sentances.

Yeah I messaged them and they said the essays are fine and to not panic if your LOR page of the preview is blank.

I received my secondary with that symbol (the red circle with the line), but today the symbol changed to a green checkmark and under the status check:complete it has YES next to Letters of Recommendation.

I am guessing you do not have to wait until the symbol changes to submit, since they can change your LOR status later once the LORs are uploaded.
 
So I just assigned my LORs through AMCAS right now, so BU says my LORs are not complete, obviously. Can I still submit my secondary right now?
 
so i got the first email saying i should expect a follow up email with login info early last week, but i still haven't recieved the second email yet...anyone else in the same boat?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I only had 10 weeks of inorganic lab and 10 weeks of organic lab for chem, which is the "pre-med" requirment that everyone at my school takes for the life sciences chemistry track(no more, no less). When schools say they require 1 year... I tripped out at first, to say the least. hahaha

Gosh. This secondary requires so much extra work. Why can't they just look at our AMCAS and figure it out. OTL

OK, so I submitted this thing. Now when I click on finalize application, it says everything is complete. However, when I click on application status, it says my LOR are not complete. Hmmm...I have the feeling it has to do with the fact that I have a letter packet and not 3 individual letters. I'll have to call in a few days and figure out what the deal is.

also the whole quarter to semester thing is stupid, what r u guys explaining in the box??
 
ok so are people leaving that optional one blank? i could write some stuff in but its nothing that would be necessarily vital for them to know. At the same time, i don't want them to think im like un-interesting and not invite me for an interview because i left the section blank
 
I should have all my LORs by next week but im done everything else in the application. Do I have to wait until the system shows they're in or can I submit it now? I know I'm not considered complete until all LORs are in but clicking submit just gives me this weird feeling of accomplishment
 
do you guys know if there is a limit for the number of individual letters?

Yes, please update us! I submitted a letter packet too. The checkbox turned green after submission, but the status still has me marked as incomplete for LORs.

Hopefully they just need time?
 
ok back to the optional essay....what are u guys doing? does it make u look uninteresting if u leave it blank?

leave it blank it doesnt matter. optional really means optional for that essay. If you read through the thread it was discussed at length.
 
Cool, it's all green check marks next to my LORs. I'm just waiting for that complete email. Hope it comes tomorrow.

That helps confirm my suspicions. It seems like they really want a committee letter, and if you don't have one they really want 3 letters. We have those 3, but they're in our packet, which shows up as 1 letter. I'm guessing that's why it isn't shown as complete. Once they actually look at it though, it should be pretty obvious. If it isn't fixed by the end of this week I'll call.

Don't schools have to download the LORs from AMCAS? If that's the case, even though you've marked the letters and it checks it on the app, you wouldn't be complete until the school goes and downloads those letters from AMCAS. They probably have a set date to start doing that.

Once schools start doing that, do they do it like every few days or so?
 
I wanted to ask about #2 question on the secondary. I'll be pursuing MS in Biology during 09-10 school year before starting medical school in Fall, 2010. The thing is I had lot of AP credits when I started my undergrad and will be graduating within three years (end of this summer in Aug). Does anyone know how the med schools look upon students finishing bachelors a year early?

Pretty sure that the check mark means they've DLed the letters.
 
I thought I could submit secondaries without having my AMCAS being verified but the BU application can't show my recommendation info and MCAT score until my AMCAS is verified so can I not submit it even if everything else on the application is completed?
 
can we leave the courses in quarters and then explain in the space provided?? changing everything to the semester system is such a hassle =/

also what are you guys explaining in that space? any detail or just a sentence saying converted quarter to semester, etc..?!!
 
Just got my secondary from BU. For as ****ty as this school is about having ANYTHING on campus open past 8PM, the admissions office for the med school sure works late.

Oh wow. They want me to forward a written statement from the institutional review board regarding my judicial action. I'm so screwed.

Hmmm, I notice when I printed out my application, the area under LOR is blank, even though on the website it has my committee letter with a check mark next to it. Maybe that's why no one is getting the complete mark?
 
My primary has yet to be verified, I expect it'll be another 2-3 weeks before my primary is sent to schools (submitted to AMCAS 7/1). Today, however, I woke up to Boston's secondary. I guess I have some time to finish this one (and get all my others together before I begin receiving them).

Hey Koko,

Don't know if you already got an answer to this beacuse I didn't want to scroll through the whole thread, but I just called the admissions office bc I was having a problem, and the woman said there is a glitch with the Print Preview, but that everything is viewable to them. Hope that helps you or anyone else having this problem!
