Oh ok. Wednesday maybe. I thought the letters were dated March 1st last year?

maybe I'm wrong...don't feel like going to investigate that though lol

Edit: Fine I couldn't help myself. It seems like the first person RECEIVED his/her letter on March 4th (Wednesday) which means it must have been sent mon/tuesday morning

Thanks...that helps. Do you go to Columbia mmmcdowe?

The formal interviews are over. Techinically, they were going to go until the end of this week but everyone got pushed back. One person interviewed today because they couldn't make it. Intervew invites, barring some very impressive updates, are over. 🙂

And yes I'm a first year.

hey mmmcdowe! do you by any chance know when the admissions committee has its final meeting? when is the "deadline" for sending in post-interview updates/letters of interest? thanks!

Hey do you know what the conditions / prices are like for married couple housing?

Thanks,
Phi Alpha

Ugh I really want to go to Columbia. One more week. Only 1/4 interviewees receive an acceptance (even after the waitlist). This is gonna be hard....

When is the official date?

There is no deadline, but at this point they are reviewing files and I do not know if they will rereview any file until after they have finished with the initial batch of acceptances. Letters can be sent after that point and be read if you are waitlisted. Dean Frantz (well probably Dean Nicholas now) is very receptive to arranging second interviews by phone or in person if you did not interview with him (not everyone gets one, but being enthusiastic and persistant to a respectful degree is known the be a good thing in these cases). They are the major players in post waitlist decisions so it is good to keep that in mind.

I interviewed with Dr. Nicholas, but I addressed my LOI to Dr. Frantz? I did not know that Dr. Nicholas was in charge of admissions as well...will this hurt my chances? *feels stupid*

I did the same thing! (but didn't interview with Dr. Nicholas, so i maybe in worse shape than you...) I'm pretty sure my interviewer told me to call/write to Dr. Frantz, but maybe i misheard. Is he still involved in the decision process, or do we really just look dumb?

Oops I did the same thing. I interviewed with Dr. Nicholas and sent him a thank you note and then wrote my LOI to Dr. Frantz. Oh well.

Ha, I wrote my LOI to the general Columbia address... I interviewed with neither and had no idea to address it directly to them!

Same. I thought it'd just be added to my file and the whole committee would read it.

I think that was a better move! I wish I had done that- I'm actually not sure the letter was added to my file or even that Dr. Frantz ever received it.

just curious about the past couple posts - when you guys say "LOI" do you mean letter of interest or letter of intent?

Letter of Interest. I think letters of intent carry more weight in the waitlist process. I just talked about why I wanted to come to Columbia and the specific things I'd take advantage of as a student. Basically, I just wanted them to know I had investigated the school, thought I'd be happy there, and would use the university resources. I also included an extra two paragraphs at the end updating them on my research, and some recent clinical volunteer work that wasn't included on my AMCAS. Mine was 2 pages long (which I actually think was too long).

But, if you get the chance, I don't think it has any negative affect on your application...so why not? If anything it just might force them to pick up and look and your application again.

thanks a bunch 🙂

New to posting, but have been reading for awhile. Did anyone receive snail-mail thank-you notes from Dr. Nicholas? That seemed like a very nice touch, but wasn't sure how to interpret it...

Regardless of writing it to the general committee, Dean Frantz, or Dr. Nicholas, I'm sure that the appropriate people will read it when considering your status. No need to resend them 😉

And yes, responses from the Deans and/or your interviewer is pretty common. At the very least you now know that your letter was received and actually read! I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned Dean Nicholas instead of Frantz sending one, but it doesn't surprise me seeing as he has begun to take on other roles as well.

Hey...any idea if decision letters go out on Monday?

I received a note from him as well- I'm guessing that he does that with everyone he interviews if they write a thank you note to him. It was very nice but I didn't take it to mean anything more than that.

Well, I e-mailed my interviewer (Dr. Lazarus) afterwards to ask a few more questions and he said that "Dean Frantz is working very hard this week, reviewing many applications. He will be sending out letters to all applicants around March 2".

thanks for keeping us in the loop 🙂...onto the final countdown!

Anyone know when we find out? Also how we find out, whether through email, call or mail?

Thanks,

Oh burn! Looks like some intra-class rivalry will be going down next year

Looks like he just posts the same question in every forum of interest...easy way to trigger online verbal abuse on SDN 👍

He also pretended to be accepted a few days before everyone else during Cornell's December decisions. Troll.

ah, excellent way to spend your time-getting people's hopes up in an already stressful process behind the safe confines of a computer screen...gotta love taking advantage of the anonymity of an online forum! 👎thumbdown👎

I'm waiting on pins and needles for mmmcdowe to give us the inside scoop on what's happening in the admissions office... 🙂

Sometime this week they will be sent out with the precise day depending on the outcome of the adcom meeting today. Probably no sooner until Wednesday I assume, just because they will need time to prepare the letters tomorrow.

Argh, living in California means its going to take forever to find out! ANTICIPATION

I was also told (I forget by who though...) that acceptance packages are mailed express. SO, if all goes well and they are, in fact, sent out today...perhaps the earliest we may hear is tomorrow! Either way, I'll be obsessively checking my mailbox this whole week =/

I think the earliest they'll send them out is tomorrow. Also, I was wondering when they send out waitlist/rejections? Like a couple days after?

Mmm, do you know how many initial acceptances are handed out and what the waitlist movement is like?

I'm not sure, but I know it moves. I met at least a couple of students when I interviewed who had been initially wait-listed and they all told me to wait it out if I really wanted to go (and call/email the Admissions committee and let them know you wanted to come). But let's take it one step a time...we need to get a waitlist letter before we can worry about it.

Good luck to you all. I am nervous for you guys and I am not even applying this cycle! 😳

Dude, I was just entertained by the fact that all the decision anxiety in this thread is rubbing off on you even though you're not even applying this cycle. Is this what SDN does to premeds? lol. It's interesting, that's all.

Sorry for appearing skeptical of your statement. Yes, this is what SDN does to premeds. By lurking in these threads, my neuroticism will be fully developed for my application cycle. 😎 G'luck! :luck:

Oh, and it is 'dudette'. 😀

Judging from last year's thread (I just gave it a quick peruse) we should start hearing Thursday and Friday 🙂
