So my application has been complete since 11/18 and I still haven't heard anything..my status just says "Application Under Review by the Office of Admissions." I know I applied really late, but should I be worried I haven't heard anything? I emailed the office once and they said my application was still under review. I guess I should just be happy I haven't receive a pre-interview rejection so far..? 🙁

i'm guessing you mean specifically fsu, but is this the truth for other schools? because i thought it was true until i saw on someone's mdapps that some school would've accepted them after interview if one of their scores was higher. which led me to believe that either the school wasted their time interviewing them, or the interviewee misunderstood something. it wasn't clear if the interviewer had said it to them during the interview, but if that was the case then that is a little bit messed up. i apologize for the overuse of interview- in all its forms!

I wouldn't say it's 100% true for all schools. Some schools interview a large number of applicants and only accept a small percentage, whereas FSU tends to interview those they strongly have a great interest in.
Once offered an interview, they pretty much want to see how you are as a person.

I don't think FSU rejects pre-interview. The only school that I know of rejecting pre-interview is FIU (based on personal experience...)

I would not worry too much yet. It takes time for them to go through these applications.
Good luck and I hope you hear good news soon!👍

Hey all!
I've been complete since 10/28 but haven't heard anything.
FSU is one of my favorites and I would loooove to go here. Unfortunately, I'm considered out-of-state since I'm a Georgia resident. I go to the University of Florida though so I do have a connection to Florida. I'm hoping that the long wait is because I'm technically "out-of-state." Has anyone heard of anyone waiting this long then getting an interview? I'm getting nervous and I really love FSU and their program. I want to go here so badly!

I just received an interview invitation for March 15 about a week ago. BTW, I am OOS but live within 30 minutes of Tallyho (Tallahassee for the non-locals).

How long did it take to hear back from them? I've waited about 2 1/2 months and I'm considered OOS as well but went to the University of Florida so I have a connection to Florida. Thanks!

FSU really doesn't care about the "connection" as much as actually having residency in the state. Their goal is to keep physicians in Florida, so residency is one of the bigger indicators of that. Honestly, I can't understand why an OOS person would WANT to go to school here. I love the school but it is tremendously expensive as an OOS student. We are talking 200k+ debt expensive. I know of two OOS people here off the top of my head (I'm sure there are more). One guy is from Georgia about 30 minutes away and the other girl was a rockstar in undergrad I think.

It took a while for me to hear back from them when I applied. I had my application in about as early as humanly possible and I didn't get offered an interview until the end of October. Others had their app in a month after me and heard back in two weeks. It is really hard to gauge. I know they are working their butts off in there though, so call to make sure everything is in and then give it time.

I don't understand this sentence. Of course they reject pre-interview. They don't interview 2,000+ applicants. Some schools just don't notify you for a while. I got my rejection from NYMC last August after finishing anatomy...

I wouldn't worry about it, but if it is under-review then it is probably under-review. Sounds stupid to say, but they have no real reason to lie about it.

I've been waiting forever with FSU....my application was complete 9/25/09 and was "Under review" from that point on. The status hasn't changed since, despite sending in an application update and I've already interviewed at UF, USF, and some others. I wrote a good secondary for FSU, I have a good MCAT, extracurriculars, and GPA, and I want to interview here but I've heard absolutely nothing.

Believe me, I hate this waiting game just as much as anyone else... But it has been pointed out multiple times on this thread that even those who interview late could be offered a position immediately rather than being put on the wait list/hold. In fact, during my interviews, one of the admissions people pointed out that last year, one of the first applicants to be interviewed was one of the last to be accepted (I believe he said within a couple weeks of orientation), and one of the last applicants to be interviewed was offered a spot without being put on the wait list / hold. Point being, there is hope until you are told otherwise. So I wish you good luck. And I don't think they'll update your online status until your interview is either scheduled or until they are no longer interviewing...

I think I understand what Sillyshoes is saying, although I don't know the actual answer. Clearly, they don't interview all of the applicants. (When I interviewed, they said they had close to 4,000 applicants and would interview somewhere between 370 and 400.) I think the question is whether they reject applicants after they are granted a secondary but before they are complete / nearly complete with interviews. From what I've read and heard (and I don't know this to be a fact), once you are granted a secondary, FSU will continue reviewing your application rather than rejecting you until interview season is over, at which time they will notify you of this decision. Can anyone verify this?

First off, didn't mean to sound like a jerk. I just was confused. As far as the other thing, I have no clue honestly. I've never heard of anyone actually NOT getting a secondary. I'm sure it happens, but not with anybody I've talked to. I know plenty of people that didn't get interviews or that were denied post interview. If they do keep it as an under review thing, I'd imagine it has more to do with doing a wholesale rejection letter at the end. It makes it one less thing to worry about each week.

To everyone that is waiting, I know it sucks but you just gotta keep your chin up. FSU had me wait over 3 months before I got an interview offer and then I had to wait another month. Afterwards, I was promptly put on the waitlist. I gave my best efforts to impress them and continued to work my butt off. Every phone call from an 850 number resulted in me picking up and praying it was a call saying I was accepted. Every time it was a dentist appointment or other equally dissapointing thing. I got the call the Friday before orientation started. It is one of the most vivid memories I have. Every time I'm stressed, angry, or jaded with what I'm doing, I reflect on that moment and the excitement that came with it. It may not happen to you with this school, but if you keep on pushing it will happen to you with SOME school.

Great advice Mosspoh!!!👍

Of course I know they don't interview all 2000+ applicants. I merely meant that they do not reject anyone this early in the cycle pre-interview with a rejection notice, after they have completed a secondary. In other words, it is not official and they still have a chance because they are under-review. Perhaps, I should have clarified that.

Interview 2moro! So excited!

I felt so bad for you guys if you were the ones that experienced the fire alarm. I was joking around with friends how I truly sat there weighing the risks of burning alive to the benefits of studying more. I also couldn't help but think about how much it sucks to be so stressed out about the interview. Have your nice little packets being thumbed through and then BAM, fire alarm where you have to stand outside for 20 minutes.

I did see one interview outside yesterday on a bench in the afternoon. I thought that was pretty cool.

Yeah, I was n that group. Lol. It was a nice way to break the ice tho I guess, lol. I really enjoyed my day overall tho. The facilities r really nice! I really like the SIM lab and the CLC. Everyone was very nice and willing to answer questions. I cud really c myself here. I find out next Tuesday or Wednesday if I am! :xf:

Sim lab is one of those things they seem to have just to say they have. I'm sure there are plenty of uses but honestly, I can listen to heart sounds on a computer and don't need to have a legless man for it. CLC isn't bad. I'm probably less than excited since I have to do my first DRE this week.

Wow. Those were two of things that really pulled me towards FSU. It doesn't seem that u see it as much of an advantage?

Every school tells you how beautiful and unique they are. Pretty much every school I interviewed at had both a CLC and a sim lab. Some weren't as big and others were much larger. It is just a standard part of most schools now. I'd be more concerned if a school didn't have SOME kind of exposure like that.

While it is a hard sell, what pulled me towards FSU was and still is the people. I'm sure most of you that interviewed here had at least one unusually happy first or second year talk to you outside of the tour guide. We are not asked to do that. We do it because we love our school and believe in it. I interviewed at 9 places (mostly DO if it means anything) and this was one of three total that the students approached me to say how much they loved it here. We have our problems, but the students are active in correcting them for future generations of students.

I tend to sound a bit more jaded about things, but it is because most of my friends are ahead of me. In realility, most of the reporting and things they have us do in CLC are to make us happy. During rotations, every speciality has their own way of reporting and doing things that you (have to) learn relatively quickly. Is it good that I will have done a DRE, neuro exam, eye exam, etc. before hand? Of course it is, but on the other side. We do it perhaps two to three times in two years. Compare that to the 6+ times you might do them per DAY during rotations.

Bump. Come on, we can't let the other schools out post us.

How is the traffic situation/parking at FSUon a regular day. I am looking into finding a place but indecisive on the location. Next to campus (walking distance/bus ride) or far away and drive to school. I go to USF and it takes about 20-30 mins to find parking on certain days and time so I seen the horror 😀

I have a cousin who went there and fell in love with it when I went and visited him and talked with some of the admissions reps there. I anticipate remaining in Florida for awhile after my medical training if I go to school somewhere in Florida. I'm doing the Naval health professions program so tuition isn't really an issue with me which is why I want to go here.

I live probably the furthest away from school than anyone else except for 2 people who have me beat by about 500 yards. I'm a morning person and like to get to school early even if I don't have lecture in the morning, so parking is never an issue for me. It starts to get REALLY frustrating around 9:30 a.m. and by 2 or 3 you are back to finding spots easily. If you want to stroll in around 10:30 then be prepared to drive around for upwards of 40 minutes looking for a spot. As it currently stands, I can get there in about 20 minutes from the other side of town. I'm living closer next year, but that is because I want less commute time when I'm worrying about boards.

Well, if you do the navy then you may not have much of an option where you end up for residency. If you choose a competitive speciality you may not either. I looked into a bunch of those programs but my personal feeling after talking to about 50 people was that most of them didn't like it once they were out of school. Some did. Either way, I'm just saying from the perspective of the school. Everyone says they want to be in Florida when they interview. The likelyhood goes up for people that have established residency. That being said, I have no intention of staying in Florida after school. The malpractice here sucks and people are beyond sue happy. I also like things a bit more seasonal and enjoy having basements. 😛

I'm not saying give up by any means. Getting residency in Florida is pretty easy. I'd try to get the paperwork in and get a driver's license. That is the easiest way.

Wow guys, we are slacking in this thread!!!!

I made a c/o 2014 thread in the allo forum (felt weird to be there), so everyone going there next year should start posting there so we can get to know each other 🙂

I find either 2day or 2moro if I am accepted! Hope it's 2day...I can't wait! I'm so nervous!!!

Placed on hold. Kinda surprised bcuz I thought my interviews went really well. Good thing I already have an acceptance or I wud have been really upset right now. Lol. Oh well, everything happens for a reason and I'm very thankful for the success I've had so far this season! Good luck everyone else waiting to hear!

Believe me, I've looked into getting residency in Florida plenty of times considering I pay out-of-state for undergrad now. The process is a lot harder than you think. I'd most likely get it when I am in graduate school so I won't have to pay out-of-state. You have to prove you're independent from your parents (since my parents live out of state) and have a source of income that can support you. My school work and extracurriculars take up a large portion of my time and I have no time for a job thus I could not do that.

I know about the whole residency thing with the Navy. Believe me... I've researched it. I'm still not 100% but I am leaning towards it.

Looks like we're in the same boat ncgonefla. Rest easy though, I don't even have an acceptance to lean on. Here's to mucho movement in May! 😀

So at this point, I have interviews/interviewed at every other florida MD school except FSU. sent an update to FSU, but no dice yet. Is there interview process still in full swing or are they winding down soon? I don't get why I have heard absolutely nothing from FSU because I wanted to interview there and see what it's about.

They interview till about mid/late-april I think. Not absolutely sure, but they do cut off a little earlier since the semester starts at the end of May for M1.

I interviewed in early Sept. and was put on the waitlist.
Does anyone know if they start pulling people from the waitlist before or after they are finished with their application cycle?
Just wondering if I'll see myself move off of it any time soon....

Is anyone going to the open house? Is this the same as a "second look"?

It depends on the reason why. It IS possible to be called off the waitlist before the cycle is done. I don't know how often, but my friend raised her MCAT about 3 or 4 points last year and got accepted a few days later.

I went to the openhouse last year. It is pretty formally structured. You are divided into accepted and potential students. Accepted students get talks in a lecture hall by a few people about what to expect and mainly to respond parents' (or your) questions. I mainly went to get an idea who was accepted and to spread the good word since I wasn't accepted yet by then.

First time poster!

I wanted to ask the people who've been accepted a question: how long did it take admissions to notify you of their final decision after you've completed an interview?

I had my interview on the 29th of January, and the head of admissions told our group that they'd take 2 weeks to decide and notify us either on Tuesday (2/9) or Wednesday (2/10). Both of those have passed, and I'm starting to get a bit nervous as I haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone been called 2-3 weeks after the interview with the good news?

Things are chaotic here. Let a little more time pass. There is a TON of stuff going on right now. It doesn't mean you were rejected or anythingl I found out really fast I was waitlisted. 😛

Thanks for the reply MossPoh, I hope to hear soon (in either case) so I can stop freaking out everytime my cellphone rings 🙂

I was complete in late november, haven't heard anything yet and I've been real nervous lately but I was just wondering what your opinion is...32R 3.8 GPA, tons of EC and I played a sport at UF. Should i still be hoping for some love from FSU or was I just too late submitting the secondary? any help would be much appreciated to calm my nerves!!

bm, your stats are fine. I've mentioned it before but I was complete within the week secondaries were even released and I didn't hear from them till near October. They are kind of weird like that. I can't really offer more information than that. Sorry!

no need to apologize, i keep telling myself its no big deal but knowing im not the only one who has waited for months helps. Thanks

Yea. The admissions people are all great, but I can't even pretend to understand how they run things back there.

Hey everyone, this is my first post ever. I was so excited for my interview at FSU, but I was really sick when I went. Even so, I thought my interviews went really well. I heard back on Friday that I was put on hold. I'm super bummed about it, since I haven't been accepted anywhere else yet. Does anyone have advice about what I should be doing now to get them to relook at me? How many people do they usually accept off their "wait-list"?
