I chose morning because I'd rather eat AFTER the interviews. It's much more relaxed and stress-free to discuss with the Med Students and other interviewees then.

remember to grab a water bottle with you after lunch, the interviews are long and you talk alot 😀

afternoon interviews are the best! No questions about it.

I interviewed here yesterday! school was beautiful! Everything seemed new and shiny. Tallahassee was pretty nice too (from what I saw). It seemed like a Southern town, not at all like Ft. Lauderdale (where I am from).

I should be hearing Friday, since they moved next week's subcomittee meeting to Thursday because of the holidays. AHHH! :xf:

Stuff seems less shiny once you are there. 😉 The projectors are kind of sketchy at best. There is a running gag with the wireless mic batteries as well.

I didn't know they were doing interviews still. I thought they'd hold off till next semester.

I was told by the staff that most of the class is filled once interviews begin again in Jan. So if you are interviewing on Jan or beyond then most likely you are competing for a position high up on the wait-list.

They say that, but I can think of at least 15 people in our class that were outright accepted in January and later. I can think of 5 more off the top of my head that were accepted from waitlist within 2 weeks of class starting. So, it isn't frivolous.

Thanks for the positive vibes. 👍 I hated the idea of being just a redundant interviewee. Yuck.

Supposed to hear something today.... waiting.

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀👍👍👍

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀👍👍👍

When did you hear? I'm waiting to hear today, too... Almost 6pm now and nothing. I interviewed last Friday.

EDIT: Just checked my status online and this is what it says:
Under Consideration by Admissions Committee (HOLD) 12/18/2009

Does this mean I'm one of those "rejected-but-not-called-rejected" people?

Waitlisted?

Waitlisted?

I don't think it's even that... At the interview, they told us that 60% are accepted, and then the rest are either waitlisted or put "under future consideration" which is their kind way of putting rejected. I guess I fall under that category? I'm getting no love from any schools... Only interview so far, and it results in this. I'm not happy at all right now.

Hang in there! I'm sure you did fantastic!!! There's no way they would reject you if they felt you were worth meeting. Chin up!!

I understand how you feel. I was in the same situtation last year. I applied to all the FL schools and the only one which offered me an interview was FSU. I didn't think my interview went well at all. One of my interviewer pretty much rushed me out the door and the second interviewer spent the whole time talking about himself. As a result, I was placed on the wait-list in early January and I didn't get the official rejection until June. Throughout the whole time, I was sending update letters but that did little to help me out.

At first, I was a upset that I didn't get chosen to go to FSU and that I had to reapply again. But in the end, it all turned out for the best. Although, I got accepted to FSU this year I most likely will not end up attending, since I got accepted to another school that is a much better fit for me.

So dont feel bad if you are not having luck this application cycle. If you do end up being rejected to all the schools that you applied to this year. Then make sure you improve your application for next year. Whether that means retaking the MCAT, improving your GPA, or participating in more ECs. I wish you luck and hope that everything turns out well.:luck:

No, I didn't. I was holding out until the due date because there were 3 schools I could possibly hear from before then. FSU got back to me first 🙂 Yay!

My interview was May 1, 2009 and I got accepted to c/o 2013 without being waitlisted!! there goes that theory, the admins at the interview told us that everyone has a chance 👍

Bummer 🙁 there is still a good chance you will get in!!

ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀👍👍👍

Congrats, hope to see you there!!!!!

Congrats to my friend who also got accepted today also, you know who you are 😀

Hey does anyone know how many people interview on a given day? Also is anyone interviewing in January? Are afternoon interviews better than morning interviews?

If I remember correctly, four people interview in the morning and four people interview in the afternoon. I don't know if either session is "better" really. It just depends on when you want to wake up/go home.

The number interviewed can change a bit. I actually found my old interview packet the other day when cleaning out my car. We had 5 people there total. It was me and a girl in my class now from UF and then a kid from Notre Dame, Yale, and Dartmouth. Public schools for the win!

with this status : Under Consideration by Admissions Committee (HOLD), does anyone know if FSU ranks their waitlisters? i dont know if I should call and see where I am on the waitlist??

and if you are on 'HOLD', they wont tell you whether you get in or rejected until towards the end, correct??

Yep that is correct. If you are not selected off the wait list you are rejected in later May/early June.

The waitlist is " unofficially" ranked. And you cant find out where you are at in the waitlist if you do call.

Man, congrats to everyone who got accepted. I hope someday soon I hear back from them, haven't even been offered an interview yet. I feel like my future is looking bleak.
I'd give anything to go to this school!

Has anyone received an interview invitation recently? :xf: I'm really nervous... I am IS and have been complete since September.

Good news is that when I attended my interview, the Dean stated that when you get interviewed is not indicative of your chances of getting it. It just means they haven't gotten to yet of the 4000 applicants they received this year, so hang tight!

I am still waiting for an interview too..im getting pretty anxious right now.

anyone know what the stats are for people who got accepted?
Or people who got accepted- what kind of GPA/MCAT score did you have?

If you are on the waitlist and TRULY interested in FSU then the best thing I can tell you to do is to keep them updated. Show you are commited to the school and still working hard to achieve your goal. If things get later then write a letter stating your commitment and love of the school. I view the waitlist as a secondary audition. Treat it as such and your odds will increase.

Just got an interview!!! I love this school and am super excited, especially because I had lost hope. Any advice guys?

I interviewed yesterday and totally missed when the Dean said we would hear something back. I must have been in deep concentration, or totally spazzing. Does anyone know the time frame? Thanks!

Usually about 2 weeks give or take a bit. I saw all you guys yesterday. Looked pretty darn spiffy.

If this is what shows up on my review status, at what point should I start to worry that they've forgotten me? A full 3 months? 4 months? Thanks.

Mine has said that since 9/4, but i am also OOS. I don't know when you should freak out, but I have started to think about the next cycle and applying to DO programs. I really like to plan ahead and have plans. It helps me be less anxious.

I've applied to both MD and DO schools (although not as a backup. I get the vibe that's all it'd be for you?), and I prefer to not start thinking about reapplying until I have no choice haha. I have an interview so far so let's hope I don't bomb it. Before I started applying, I did think about doing a post-bacc or something of the sort if I don't get in anywhere... Hmm I guess I should start looking into those soon.

I just received an interview invitation for March 15 about a week ago. BTW, I am OOS but live within 30 minutes of Tallyho (Tallahassee for the non-locals).

DO is not necessarily a "back-up" for me. I haven't fully experienced shadowing a DO and have that setup to do in the next month or two. I just know that I am more competitve for the DO and I want to make sure that is a path I want to take. So a back-up in a sort of I want to be a physician and don't care what letters are behind my name.

Well that's good that you just really want to be a doctor. I feel like too many people around here are hung up on letters... but I won't get into that haha. Let's just hope we applied broadly enough this time around so that there won't have to be a next time around!

Is there really a "WAITLISTED" status that the school gives out? I am on "HOLD" as well after my interview and I asked the admissions coordinator if that was equivalent to being on the waitlist and she said it was. I'm just wondering...

Hi everyone, I am really new to the whole student doctor network...but I think it is a good place to get advice. I am scheduled to interview at FSU on February 15th. I am pretty nervous. I have the low mcat/high GPA situation (I am worried about the low mcat, and yes, I took it more than once). I am currently working at the NIH and I feel like my essays were good. But, of course, reading all of these comments starts to make me nervous. Does anyone have any interview advice. It sounds like it is pretty conversational, but are there certain questions that come up that you felt were hard or maybe ones that you just didn't expect to get? Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! 🙂

Congrats Gator8!

Have you checked out the
SDN interview feedback?

http://more.studentdoctor.net/interviewlist.php?school=39

The interview is very laid back and conversational. Just be yourself and show them that you have what it takes to be a great doctor! Be prepared to do a lot of talking. You have two interviewers and they typically last about 45 minutes each. Anything you mentioned on your app and essays are fair game during the interview.

Good luck!👍

Does anyone know the step by step process that occurs after you have had your interview? I know that the committee meets the Tuesday after the interview but what happens after that? Also what is average amount of time that it takes to get news on either acceptance or waitlist? I have heard from 5 days to 3 weeks.

If any one of you guys are firm on going to FSU and want to move there early (regardless of if you want a roommate or not), hit me up. I'm moving up a few months early (Feb or Mar).

A week or two. It depends how many people vs spots they have. Either way, it happens when it happens. Don't think too much into it or you'll go crazy.

I don't know how many times I've said this so far but here it goes again. If they offer you an interview, they believe you are good enough academically to go to the school. Stop worrying about the gpa/mcat stuff. It doesn't mean much anyway. Personality is far more indicative of success in the long run.

i'm guessing you mean specifically fsu, but is this the truth for other schools? because i thought it was true until i saw on someone's mdapps that some school would've accepted them after interview if one of their scores was higher. which led me to believe that either the school wasted their time interviewing them, or the interviewee misunderstood something. it wasn't clear if the interviewer had said it to them during the interview, but if that was the case then that is a little bit messed up. i apologize for the overuse of interview- in all its forms!
