Do you folks know if they are still interviewing?
They are still interviewing. I interviewed today (4/12) along with 20 other students. Dr. Mosely said that the class has been full for a while and the admissions committee will either choose to put us on the high waitlist or the regular waitlist. High waitlist means that you would have had a spot if they weren't full already.

According to Dr. Mosely, on April 15th, AMCAS will provide Meharry with a list of all students accepted by Meharry who are holding multiple acceptances. Holding multiple acceptances doesn't mean just getting in to more than one school. It means that the student has paid a deposit or provided written intent to more than one school that they are planning to attend so that the medical school will hold their seat. He will then get in contact with those students and give them a few days to choose between Meharry and the other schools. If they do not choose Meharry, or haven't made a choice within a few days, he has the option to revoke their acceptance and fill that seat with someone on the waitlist. Most medical schools get this information on May 15th but Meharry gets this information from AMCAS early since they start earlier than most other medical schools.

Wow, I guess the high waitlist is the REAL waitlist. I guess the regular waitlist is more of the rejection pool. I wonder why they told us the waiting list is not ranked on their website when there is obviously some form of ranking involved. 🙁

I was told at my interview (March 5) that the waitlist would be ranked but that would not be until the April 15th date. As to the details of how it would be ranked I don't know. But yes I was told this from the beginning. I assume it is necessary to determine logically and fairly as to how the movement should occur. Well I am praying for those of you on the waitlist that a swift movement occurs. Hope to see you in Nashville!

Oh WOW. 😱
I interviewed on the 19th of March. im gonna call to next week and find out where I am on that list.
Thx for the prayers!

Are you sure about this ranked wait list deal because I've called a bunch of people and they all told me that it's not ranked.

Do you folks know if they are still interviewing?

I dont think they are interviewing anymore because its almost the 15th and this is basically when the waitlist will start to move.

Are you sure about this ranked wait list deal because I've called a bunch of people and they all told me that it's not ranked.

Just called them today and found out that they're STILL interviewing! 😱
I couldn't get it out of them the exact number of people on the waitlist, but they admitted to me that it was quite substantial.

I do not mean to downplay anyone's chances but they basically said that the class is currently full and potential acceptances are going straight to the list ..So I suggest we hang tight and PRAY! :xf:

I was accepted to a state school this morning and I let Meharry know that I will not be accepting their offer of admission. I sent the info through fax and email (they should def know I am not coming 😉) so I hope one of you is accepted soon. 🙂 Good luck!

Seriously, they are still interviewing in mid -April. I have never heard of interviews that late.

has anyone heard anything about the meharry med postbac? they said they would be contacting people via e-mail this week for phone interviews... 😱:scared:

withdrew my acceptance so there is another seat open. I hope one of you guys gets it :luck:

Yeah I interviewed mid-April last year and a friend of mine interviewed like the 22nd of April.

Hey guys,

I interviewed March 29. Waitlist 2 days later, April 1. I do recall Mr. Mosely mentioning a waitlist ranking, high and regular. Did anyone receive an email saying they were on the high waitlist? Or did everyone just get the same generic email saying they were on a waitlist?

I also had an interview on March 29th and got the same generic waitlist email 2 days later. So I am not really sure the deal with that. Kinda want to know where I stand on this infamous waitlist!!

Dang, that's gotta go down in history as the shortest admissions decision/notification in history. Even though Ohio State decides the day they interview you, they at least give it a week or two to let you know.

Random thought...

Seriously! It's like really?? If you get wait lists in 2 days I mean what a waste of money. They should just make it that everyone who interviews March and April automatically get wait lists because that's what seems like to be going on.

Okay so there is a high and low list? Every time I call, no one has told me this 🙁

makes me wonder if the committe actually meets after each interview day or if our fate had somewhat already been decided prior to the interview? From what I understand from the interview invitation e-mail, selection is based on a composite score?

You guys have to remember that we did interview very very very late in the game. At this point they are not deciding accept, reject, or waitlist. Its either waitlist or reject. It does not take too long to decide that. But that being said, everyone here is making it seem like there are 2 million people of the waitlist. The only people that will be posting here will be admitted and waitlisted people. Not too many people want to post that they were rejected.

I only asked about the waitlist ranking because others posted it. I just wanted to know if anybody actually got an email explicitly saying they were high waitlist. But I'm assuming not...

Did they say at the interview that there was no chance of acceptance? I think it's absolutely horrible to fly someone from who knows where for a shot at a waitlist, when you have a waitlist that most likely meets if not exceeds the size of the class already. What is the purpose of interviewing people into April and May just to put them on a waitlist? That's time, and money, for a slim shot. I know I walked into that interview nervous, but convinced that I could be the one to wow them and get an acceptance. And then days later, I was waitlisted. Had I known that was my only option, a waitlist or an acceptance, I'm not sure I would've gone. What makes it worse is that they don't give you any information about whether you are interviewing for an acceptance, to give people the chance to make their own decision and say, "I'd rather not spend the time or money that I don't have to not even have the possibility of an outright acceptance." Other schools are forthright about it, and I respect that. I appreciate Meharry and what it tries to do for URM and non-URM committed to the underrepresented, but I also think it's not right. It doesn't give you much to look forward to except sitting on aNOTHER waitlist (unless you didn't have any chance at any medical school before, to which I say, "Okay, then having the chance at a waitlist when there wasn't one before is probably worth it if there are things I can actively do to get OFF said waitlist.")

... But that being said, everyone here is making it seem like there are 2 million people of the waitlist. The only people that will be posting here will be admitted and waitlisted people. Not too many people want to post that they were rejected.

Ummm, exaggeration, much? 🙄 No, there's not 2 million, but there's a significant number, and enough so that interviewing into May (which I believe happened last cycle) doesn't make sense.

Anyway, it is what it is, as they say, and this is the process at Meharry, and there's nothing that I or anyone else can do to refute it. I just wish they'd put some logic behind it.

To give you guys some numbers the last time I called, ~1 week ago, a Mr. K told me that there were ~80-90 on the wait list and usually they pull ~15-20 off each year.

I'm going to call again on Monday and get updated numbers.

I talked to Mr.Mosley yesterday and there is a ranking for the waitlist. Im hoping to get a spot like everybody else but if not then thats what it is. Good luck to everybody. And all we can do is pray now cause its in God hands.

Stay hopeful friends! Success seems largely a matter of holding on after others have let go.

I honestly do not believe that they would just be interviewing applicants for the waitlist. You have to remember as Globz said, it is late in the application cycle. I interviewed in April last year and was told that the class was full and that there were very few spots left. This did not mean that from that point onward, everybody would be waitlisted. You must keep in mind that schools have to offer more invitations than seats. Therefore, just because the class is full does not mean that the school will not be offering anymore invitations.

I interviewed at a school this year that failed to tell me that the class was full. That did not mean that there were no more acceptances being offered; it just meant that I now have to compete against possibly 30 - 50 students for maybe 2 invitations.

When we arrived at our interview on 3/29, we were told that we were interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. Mr. Mosley stated that the class was full. He also stated that they are expecting about 50-70 people of the waitlist to be accepted into the class. I left Meharry with the impression that the waitlist was not a deadend and that we legitimately had a chance to be admitted. Let us not be negative at this point. Postive minds will succeed.

And there you have it. No forewarning or anything. You get there and THEN they put it on you.

Not being negative...I just think people have a right to know the big picture from jump. Good luck, all. :luck:

I interviewed on March 29 and received an email on April 8 which stated I would be ranked in the top 5% of the waitlist. Although there is a high waitlist, don't lose hope; there could be a strong waitlist movement this year!

I remember my email and it didnt say anything about what your ranking on the waitlist was. So maybe there doing it now. Also I was told when I called there not ranking it till this week.

Hey guys for those that have interviewed recently (and been placed on waitlist as it seems to b the trend unfortunately) what was the format of the interview exactly? I thought I read somewhere that ppl had like one ten minute interview?!?! I'm scheduled for next Monday, April 26th... Superrrr late I kno :-/

Hey everyone.. I called this morning and Mrs. Davis told me that as of right now the waitlist is not ranked... it will be soon but as of today it is not.

The interview itself is one-on-one with one interviewer (I believe that before the new year, everyone had two). My interview lasted about 25 minutes (it was back in February), so I was shocked to learn from interviewees after me that they had 10 minute interviews. Hopefully someone who's interviewed within the last week or so can comment on how long peoples' interviews have lasted.

Does any know what we are getting ranked on? I have heard that they do take race into consideration and African Americans get extra points. Which does make sense since it's a HBCU.

Too bad I'm Asian 🙁

Heresay means nothing without cold hard facts and names. And really, with 90+% of the applicants already being African American, it doesn't really do much for them since they'd all get those alleged points. Next someone's gonna tell me that they took those pictures of us so that when they were making decisions, they could see which of the African Americans was darker and had nappier hair...those should count for extra points, too, y'know. 🙄🙁

For everyone's sake, Meharry's especially, I hope this rumor is not true.

i feel like meharry is focused on choosing people who believe in their mission, regardless of race. keep the faith, guys. i know that we will all be fine.:xf:

Actually I read this from a previous Meharry forum. I forgot if it was last years or the year before that. 90% of those that matriculated is black but that doesn't mean that 90% of those on the wait list is black. Actually in my interview group 50% of us was not black. So there is definitely a chance that happens. At my summer job we do the same thing. We give black males the most points. Then black females because our target is to encourage more URM to eneter the medicial field.

How else would they ensure 90% if they don't atleast give preference for black applicants? Everyone who got an interview obviously fits their mission and all of that. The wait list is a different story. All I'm saying is that I don't think being Asian helps as much as being black at a HBUC. That should be obvious because they only take 5-8 Asians a year. In my group alone there were 5 Asians so it must be pretty hard to grab one of those spots.

Yeah, the amount of ppl in my group were 50/50. But Im sure that race is just one of the factors, there are alot others. I went to an HBCU for undergrad and I dont really feel like I have anymore edge than anybody else because of race. keep the faith ppl.

Has any April interviewee received an Acceptance yet? Been waitlisted since February. Meharry pls show me some love!:xf:

I wrote a whole thing and it didn't save, so I'm gonna water it down.

From the website...
Can you advise me on my chances of being admitted?

That is generally not possible. The tremendous volume of applications for the limited number of positions available makes it impossible to accept every eligible applicant. Final selection is based on a composite, which includes GPA score, test results, supporting credentials, and evidence of your support of the mission of the college. </SPAN>The whole application must be reviewed in detail. There is also no predicting what next year's applicant pool will be like in terms of strengths and size. When there are more applicants, the process becomes more competitive.

And Meharry's mission...
Meharry's Mission

Meharry Medical College exists to improve the health and health care of minority and underserved communities by offering excellent education and training programs in the health sciences; placing special emphasis on providing opportunities to people of color and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, regardless of race or ethnicity; delivering high quality health services; and conducting research that foster the elimination of health disparities.

I read threads dating back to 2006 and found nothing alluding to race being included in the admissions decision. Not to say that it doesn't exist, but I'm not inclined to believe something that doesn't come from an adcom member's mouth. This forum is frequented by Meharry students who have no place in the admissions/interview aside from the lunch, and applicants who are hoping to get in. But if I can get names and numbers I would love to confirm this, which would negate the mission of Meharry.

That said, Meharry doesn't have to give preference to anyone...the type of applicants who apply give preference for them. For every 1 non-URM that applies, there are at least 5 URM to match her. Add to that that many non-URM do not apply because 1. they would finally be the odd-man out, and it takes a strong person to embrace that status, 2. they get offended at the idea that there is such a thing as an HBCU, 3. they have nothing in common with the mission (the list goes on), the ratio becomes even greater. So already many people have already weeded themselves out. It would be hard NOT to admit 90+% URM to Meharry, because they already are the majority in the application process. So why give extra consideration to a group of people whose applications already flood this school?

At the end of the day, the decision lies with Meharry and I can't knock it. I can embrace it, hope they let me in based on meeting their composite score outlined above. It doesn't say anything about race, so I would take it to mean that is not a factor, though things may have changed.

Good luck, everyone.:luck:

Well I hope you're right! I do know people who aren't URM and have basically given up on the wait list. So maybe they feel that they don't have a good chance. But hey I have been hanging in there! Here's to hoping that being Asian won't hurt my chances of getting off.

I fit there mission by having done a ton of work for the underserved communities but I'm not a disadvangtaged student myself. We'll see what happenes when the wait list starts to move!

I feel like we are moving into a racial issue here. I am not a URM and did not try to claim URM status. Being Asian or a non-URM will not affect your chances. Moreover, being a minority does not mean that an individual is automatically granted admission. Vowing to help the underserved does not mean that person should be admitted.

I feel the admissions committee is only going by what your interviewer(s) stated to them and what is on the application. That's the only choice they have. Until one of us actually gets insight as to how the admissions committee works, we should not start making assumptions.

Ok, we need to get off this topic of race and talk about more important stuff like are we getting in, lol. I mean seriously I know that they have ranked the waitlist now and I was told that there should be some serious movement so thats what matters. I was told after calling meharry that fifty people were pulled off the waitlist last year. I met some lovely asians when I interviewed, I would be so shocked and hurt if those lovely ppl didnt get in. So lets talk about acceptance ppl not race.😉

I hope that Meharry is truly more fair in this process. I say this because at one of my other interviews, an interviewer straight up told me my stats were a little lower for Asians and that usually Asians needed to score a little bit higher than most to get in. So I'm pretty sure he was hinting that my stats in combination with my race was not good enough. That was kind of a horrible experience, having someone tell you that you won't get in within like the first 10 min of an interview.

I'm not trying to make this into a URM vs non-URM issue, there are tons of forums for that. I just hope Meharry is more focused on other aspects than the previous school I interviewed at which mainly focused on my scores and didn't give a rat's ass about my volunteering service or other stuff.

I called Friday (4/23) and didn't get Mr. Mosley or admissins. I left a message and will call back on Monday!

50 is a lot! That is great news 🙂 Has anyone been contacting them frequently? A Mr. Kern? told me that you have to make yourself heard. I have been bugging the crap out of them so I hope that will lead to something. I'm just wondering what other people's strategies are!

I sincerely do hope we all get off the list, all ~5-10 of us who have been posting here! Good luck you guys, it would be awesome to be classmates and look back and laugh at this whole experience.

Yes, I called on friday because I was told the week before that the waitlist would be ranked on wednesday. I been in contact with admissions since I first processed my app, so I could know my chances lol. An they told me my rank on the waitlist and that fifty ppl last year were pulled off. I think we still have hope. There really always so nice to me when I call admissions and say Im good for calling. We still have hope ppl. They are about to start pulling ppl off. I was told they are going to be meeting next week to start. I have faith and Im praying. We will get in. Just make yourself known so they know you want to get in.

Man I called F but only got the answering machine, I guess it was bad timing! Did they tell you how many people are on the list?

I'm SO HAPPY they actually let you know your ranked position!!!

Thanks for letting us know!
