I chose to write this post because I think some of you are getting ahead of yourselves in worrying too much at this point. I got into NYU, and here are my numbers and when I applied:

science gpa: 3.4
nonscience gpa: 3.7
mcat: 31S

applied amcas: end of june
completed secondary: early august
invited for interview: JANUARY
interviewed: end of january
waitlisted: march
accepted off the waitlist: may

kicking everyone's butt at literally every subject: september 09 baby.

don't give up and stop this nonsense thinking just because you applied a week earlier and haven't heard back, it's a lost cause. it's NOT.

Thanks for this.👍

Thanks for the post. Regardless of the whole timing issue, your story gives me more hope on the statistics side. It's nice to know they accept more human applicants who aren't the stereotypical 35+ 3.9ers 👍

I would love an interview offer here (if you couldn't tell by the GaGa reference 😛)

Crap, I never got a 'complete' email from NYU. I submitted the secondary on 9/2 and check the status page, oh I don't know, about 4 times a day and it has said "Application in Process..you'll should hear from us in 4-6 weeks..." since I submitted. Is this a cause for concern?

same here, i wouldnt worry. this is going to be a drawn out process so try not to go insane (i'm doing my best here).

Hey,

I have an interview here, but I lost the e-mail they sent me. Can anyone tell me how long the interview day is, and when it starts? Also, does the e-mail say we have to bring anything?

thanks so much,

I'm interviewing at the other three NYC schools back to back, and I would really like to do NYU as well if possible. I actually sent them an in-the-area interview on Friday, but the problem is that my other interviews are in two weeks so the longer I wait, the less the probability that I can do NYU at the same time. Also, I want to choose a plane ticket for after I finish them all, but I would need to know about this one first. Do you guys think that I should call them or is that frowned upon?

I love how much saner (is that a word?) this thread is from others. Bring on the waiting 🙂

they didnt get a ny show yet dawg. but kanye @ msg the night before i graduated college was the best 3.5 hours and $250 of my life.

btw, lady gaga dropped out of NYU. but yes, she did go there.

btw the pre-sale tix sell out on the first day and the regular tix sell out on the first day as well (or it did for glow in the dark) in a big city.

if gaga has an internet fan club with access to tickets (kanye does, but it sucks) its your best bet for getting the best seats

She was crazy back then too 😛

Interview Invite. Kinda surprised because I don't have super high stats. Interview dates between October 12th-23rd. Just waiting on Cornell, and I'll have officially conquered all of Manhattan!

Invite! Stats around their average. Complete 7/22.

At least they still have many interview dates left. can you include your complete date as well?

Does NYU take updates? I have some significant stuff to add (no grades or anything, but a future publication...)

For those of you that have interviews scheduled, what time did they tell you to be there in the morning of your interview? I hate that they don't send you a confirmation email about what time your interview is scheduled. I can't find the piece of paper where I wrote down what the woman told me when I scheduled it over the phone. How annoying!

I guess if I just show up by 8 am at least I know I won't be late. 🙁

they told me a specific interview time (mine's in the morning) and they also said there would be a tour at 12.

so basically i'd call them..if your interview is in the morning, you should know a time to be there by..gl 👍

Are you sending an update saying you're in an upcoming publication, or waiting until it's actually published? I can't decide for me, b/c I want to get the update out there before it's too late.. and the paper might not be published until December/January. Thoughts?

Have you guys and girls been hearing within the stated 4-6 weeks? I am just over four weeks in and am getting antsy 🙂

Mine took 2 months, but I was complete late July so I assume they didn't start looking at apps until later in August.

Applied mid July, been "complete and under review" for quite a while now, but I am not antsy about it, not yet...

I was thinking of doing it before it get's published...because it's going to get published in the Spring probably. But, since I'm in touch with the actual editor of the page I want it published on, and he's confirmed that he'll publish it...I felt pretty safe updating schools about it.

Being antsy is what it's all about.

Interview Invite earlier today. Super happy!!😀

I am a senior at NYU. I went to an interview info session the other week. We were told NOT to ever contact a school and ask if they plan on interviewing you. I guess though some schools are OK with this, some are absolutely not. We were told to just spend the extra money to make multiple trips. Not sure if this reflects how NYU Med feels, but thought it might help.

Interesting. I think Mt.Sinai encourages you to let them know if you have an "in the area" interview, right?

Just got an interview invite! Finally some love from NYC schools. Complete: 7/30.

congrats!! that's encouraging that you were complete so early and just got an invite.

My "no interview" drought is over...NYU is the first invite I have gotten in over 3 weeks.

See, I knew there was no need to be antsy over this one...

PS check the website - it was on there for at least an hour prior to the email...

i hope you also figured out by now that you go to one of the most expensive schools in the nation and most of the kids that go there are just ridiculously rich. make the most out of your senior year there though.

invite here, too. complete 7/28.

i would like to say that this is the THIRD school at which i appeared to have been "passed over" for an interview because people complete after me were getting invites. and then i got one.

so, even though i've said this a hundred times before, i want people to shut up with "omfgpeopleaftermegotinvitesisthisasilentrejection." it drives me cray cray.

Interesting, thanks guys. I was complete 9/2 so I guess I've got a while provided they are interested.

omg i was complete 7/27. you think this is a silent rejection?

that was a joke in case anybody wasn't sure

O god I nearly had a heart attack when I saw an email from nyu admission today. But alas, it was only a complete email. My poor heart these days......its def taking one for the team

+1 for finally complete. Looks like NY schools are taking their time to send complete application emails (or getting too many applications).

Hm, I'm actually here on a merit scholarship, and I am not at all wealthy. I was just trying to be helpful. I'm sorry if I came across as otherwise. 🙁

LMFAO seriously??? You're ready to drop a quarter million on med school, yet you harp over $300? Let's get real, guys. "In the area" emails can very well ruin your chances at some schools. better safe than sorry, especially in this process.

no, i was just saying that i went here for undergrad too and there is a pretty big assumption from the advisers at NYU that most people can afford all the steps of this med school application process.

I agree w/ LAman that you shouldn't take a chance of the process. but some people just cant afford multiple plane tickets. i tell them to put it on a CC and pay it off, but they may not have the resources to do that or the parental support.

the thing is, you have to figure out whats right for you at each step of application. some med schools are VERY open to in the area emails and people have gotten positive responses. thats where SDN is a resource. if you are to be accepted on OCT 15th to a school and you have pending interviews in the following months, i dont think its a bad decision at all to email schools and nicely let them know that you are in the area.

As you know, NYU says a lot of things on their website about not dropping courses, taking courses at other schools blah blah blah. most of those things really did not turn out to be always true. I love Dean Visconti and she has been wonderful to me but you gotta do your own research here and take control of your application process.

i really did want you to enjoy your senior year though and i hope you do 🙂

i got a merit scholarship too but i dont think those cover housing and food. living in palladium 3-4 years is like tuition for many schools. pretty expensive place (plus after you graduate they are not ashamed to ask for money, you'll see)
