Anyone know if there is anywhere to park? And if so how much? I REALLY dont want to play around with public transportation on interview day. Thanks!

I remember seeing a parking garage on 30th street for like $7 until 4 PM

For those that have already interviewed, when did NYU say they'd make a decision? they're rolling, right?

There is a garage east (I believe) of the school and like the other post it's $7 and you leave the keys.

Are you an NYC driver? I really wouldn't want to play around with driving on interview day, but if you've got what it takes to run with the taxis...👍

no... a few people find out in december, but almost everyone finds out in march. kind of like cornell.

this.

yeah, they said they are "rolling." but they said the first decisions don't come out till around xmas time. also, the dean told us specifically that interviewing earlier meant that you had a better shot at getting accepted.

Make sure that is not $7 for the first hour...garages are very expensive in that area.

They definitely said early March for decisions. I'm pretty sure it's not rolling.

yes. quoting myself because no one seems to have read it:

After reading a series of grumpy/bitter posts by you this morning on various threads, I diagnose you with med-school-admissions fatigue and prescribe a SDN vacation.

please don't hurt me

you have way too much time on your hands if you're SDN-stalking me.

for the record, i'm usually grumpy on SDN when responding to annoying questions.

and responding to annoying posts in general. 🙄

with 3000+ posts, it's not like i have to "SDN-stalk" you to come across something you said lol

haha I'm probably going to regret asking this but aren't you supposed to be an advocate of chilling?

I demand NYU gives me an interview.

And dw is an advocate of chillin' fo sho...

No... im from NJ, but i think i'll be alot let stressed if I drive and leave early rather than trying to figure out trains and buses. Thanks for the info guys!

I'm interviewing here next Monday - getting kind of scared. Any advice?

My interview was very laid back and lasted around 20 minutes. My interviewer and I mostly talked about New York and Bellevue. It threw me off at first because I wasn't expecting this. He only asked me one question about my application. If you really want to go here don't be afraid to tell them. Just be enthusiastic and enjoy the day. If you know your application and have already had other interviews it's nothing to worry about.

this.

Judging by last year's thread though, it seemed that if you interviewed before december and were going to be accepted you heard back in december. if you didn't hear back, you were waitlisted or rejected in march. the only decisions that go out in december are acceptances.

I'm not 100% sure though, I'll have to revisit the thread to check.

I may be totally wrong, so please do not jump down my throat like only SDNers can...but it is my understanding that NYU used to be rolling, and has been making the transition over to nonrolling over the past couple of years...this would explain all the confusion and also explain why previous threads might not be the best source of advice for this kind of thing.

At my interview day (over a month ago), we were told that they have done a lot of switching back and forth between non-rolling and rolling over the past several years. My interviewer and one of the Deans told us that they will have more of a rolling admissions system this year and that we should hear back in mid December if accepted. I can't remember if they mentioned whether or not you only hear about acceptances or if you hear about waitlists/rejections then as well.

Checked the website. Here's the official word:

Acceptance letters will be sent out on a rolling basis, beginning December 15, 2009. Wait list and rejection letters will be sent by March 1st.

ouch. so only a month. so it sounds like snail mail in a month if your lucky?

I second that. I interviewed in october and they said rolling admissions.

I thought I read that people got emails last year...good question, though.

There we go. This is going to be a long month 🙁 I'm pretty sure that last year people didn't start receiving letters until around Dec 22. Not sure about emails.

this makes me nervous. The more i think about that NYU interview the more i realize i bombed it

I didn't bomb mine, but it was a strange interview...I did not get a great feeling from it...I am not holding my breath for this one, but I would sure love to get accepted there.

I've heard NYU values the interview slightly less than other schools. To be honest, I mainly just talked to my interviewer about traveling for literally 30-45 minutes, both my experiences studying abroad and various other trips to Europe and Central America. She was a radiologist and went to Greece twice a year for work (I WANT THAT! lol). I think you'll probably be fine.

ya. i actually loved how u basically live right at the hospital all 4 years. great school.

just bad feelings all around for this one

no, my interviewer had done a ton of background on my app before my interview and asked really pointed questions.

At one point she asked about a research project of mine (i had 3...and it was an obscure question about how we teased out a certain quality from our data). I said i did not know...then thought about it..then as we were about to move on i suddenly remembered.

at the end she said ok....we're out of time. turned around at the computer...said byyeeeee and then i slowly snuck out.

im embarrassed thinking about it

my interview was weird in a different way. it was scheduled for 3:00, and we got back from the tour at about 2:15. so i figured i'd have a little while to brush my hair, fix my tights, change my shoes (i wore flats for the tour), etc.

BUT within about 10 seconds of my ass hitting the couch in the admissions office, my interviewer comes out looking for me. so i went to my interview totally disheveled and wearing my bright pink suede flats instead of my black leather pumps. oy.

anyway, it wasn't even an interview. as soon as i sat down, he goes "so what can we do to make you come here?" and first i tried to play it off like, oh i've loved everything i've seen here, it seems to be a good fit for me for all these reasons, blah blah but he was like, no seriously. what can we do. so without thinking i go, "financial aid!" then i blushed. and he laughed. turns out we went to the same undergrad and he used to live near my current apartment so he kept asking me if the things he had enjoyed in that neighborhood were still there... and most of them weren't. 'cause he was pretty damn old.

it was the most fun i've had at an interview. eventually i stopped trying to sell myself like at other interviews because i realized he wasn't interested in those sorts of formalities  we just talked for about an hour and then i left. so bizarre.

ya...ive had one of these. the interviewer told me id be recommended for acceptance bfr i even said a word. the rest of the interview was a recruiting pitch

and then i got promptly waitlisted.

i will forever be pitching myself.

Same thing happened to me at Pitt.. interviewer spent the whole time asking me "what can I tell you to make you come here?" So I spent the entire time asking questions and chatting instead of selling myself -> waitlist 🙁

Haha. Mine was kinda funny. When I went into the room, my interviewer who was a pediatric cardiologist, simply said " Do you want to know more about NYU?". So he spent most of the time talking about all that NYU had to offer. We also talked about sports, NYC (where I am from) and other stuff. He obviously read my application because he kept referring to some activities and my life experiences. I think NYU interviews are just used to screen out the normal conversationalists from the socially inept ones. After that everything depends on your application.

yeah, i'm not counting on anything, obviously. but he was definitely an entertaining guy to talk to.

as a side note. i am seriously starting to hate the logic that good bar conversationalist somehow = good interviewer.

totally false.

So I am REALLY interseted in NYU - and they did not ask me what they could do to get me to go there - so I am probably not in as good shape as the rest of you...

I would love to go there and am thinking about writing a letter to the admissions committee letting them know this. I did not get to talk to my interviewer at all about "why nyu?" - we basically just talked about my family and my travel. I have a lot to say though! I think the interview went well but my stats are not stellar. Should I write this letter to them? What do you guys think?

I agree with you. I think people generally feel that because you can OPEN your mouth and say something it automatically means that you interview well. I think that interviewing is a skill which can be developed with enough practice. I'm just speaking for myself, but sometimes after my interviews, all I can say is, "damn, man I killed that ish".

Everything comes into play in this game. Facial expression, the way you move your hands, the way you move your head, the tone of your voice, how your approach the questions. It's like flirting. Haha.

Btw for the guys here, is it easier to interview with a female or male? I generally prefer female interviewers. I dunno why.

of course!

i wrote them a letter immediately after my interview letting them know how impressed i was.

poop i should have done that - I was thinking of waiting to get my grades to send an update, but looks like I might not have enough time to do that huh?

thanks for the quick response though!

hey guys,

interviewed about a month ago. just checked my status and it says "Final Decision Pending" and was just wondering if this is what everyone else's says post-interview.

I interviewed over a month ago and it still says "Interview Scheduled"
